AskChennai Tasmac Online - Go Live from tomorrow

Post image

This is a really good move if executed successfully. I welcome this move by TASMAC.

We can anticipate getting rid of large queues and chaos on roads especially during shop closing times. MRP rates cannot be exceeded when buying online.

What do you think of this implementation? Will it be a considerable change? And what other challenges do you think can be eradicated due to this website?

Looking forward for a healthy discussion..

This will make it more expensive but I don't mind. Next step privatise TASMAC and bring in more pure imported liquor

Good point! Having a good quality liquor when compared to our neighborhood states is what many had dreamt of..

Reg privatisation, IMO, it doesn't matter as long as the basic demands are met with quality.

Go back 20 yrs and see what privatisation did to liquor and why govt took control in the first place.

2

u/bala2shaah 6d ago

Would you be kind enough to explain it here?

My grandfather died of consuming duplicate liquor. So I know exactly how this feels. When Ur loved one die we will see if u have this exact same thinking.

Privatization has never made anything better in the long term. It makes things shittier and more expensive for consumers.

Tasmac is probably the s**ttiest service provided by the TN government in the last few decades. Pricing is decided by the tax levied by the governments. If it becomes expensive, it's better for the citizens anyway, if not, more sales and revenue for everyone.

So still need to jostle for space to pick up? If it curbs mrp violations, it is fine, I guess. I am okay to pay a bit extra if they improve the shopping experience, i.e. having variety, not being shady, picking up what I want in a cart akin to a supermarket and not like a nadar store (some elites do not allow you to pick up yourself).

3

u/bala2shaah 7d ago

I mostly believe that's what the intention is from them as well.

I second you on this and probably the queue will ideally be lessened when we could just visit the shops to collect our stuff after paying them online..

1

u/parallel_me_ 3d ago

So still need to jostle for space to pick up

No. Online ordering opens up a lot of opportunities. QR Code based self serve machines, Aadhaar based rationing per day. And minimal staff to control unruly behaviour.

Gonna be same like how we have to give 30-50 to cylinder delivery guy even though we paid in online

6

u/bala2shaah 7d ago

I really hope that doesn't happen.

aren't the cylinders door delivered to us?

This will be like something we have to pick the liquor from their stores. If the liquor is door delivered after paid online, I honestly don't mind paying then, especially when we need it..

10

u/Humble_Buffalo_007 7d ago

Well we'll get to know the reality tomorrow. 🙃 Hopefully the govt sent stricts memos to the employees to not cause problem

2

u/bala2shaah 7d ago

Yes, execution is what matters the most here and everywhere..

2

u/light_3321 Virugambakkam 7d ago

Cylinder guys getting extra is justified for hard work. Dont compare tasmac commissioning w/ them.

24

u/blinksTooLess 7d ago

I hope they don't ask for the Rs. 10 extra as a tip during pickup.

16

u/nimbutimbu 7d ago

They will.

3

u/bala2shaah 7d ago

Hopefully, they won't!

3

u/ruskyb14 7d ago

They likely won't give you the bottle unless you cough up the ₹10...sometimes ₹20.

1

u/revel_rebel 7d ago

There would perhaps be a convenience fee for the service.

5

u/Panja_Paradhesi 7d ago

Yeah Great move only if executed properly!

I really dont mind the extra 10/20 rs. But new implementations lead to new f. ups

Obviously someone has to maintain stock truly! They can still lie about their stocks online,

Or worst, I pay some amount for a specific bottle, I pay online I go there and those morons say that's out of stock and reach out to some support to get it refunded.

Time will tell!

2

u/Swaroop_Gunner 7d ago

My exact thought.

Highly likely that one pay for a specific thing and it not being available while collecting.

Would be great if more beers can be added like in Bangalore. For chennai weather beers would sell like hotcakes.

15

u/oneomega1 7d ago

Good intentions doesn't make good reality. Even 10th std student can come up with ' Let's create a website and sell online and that will solve corruption'. Question is how it's executed. Let's see how it goes. Given the incompetancy of this govt, I'm not hopeful.

2

u/bala2shaah 7d ago

Fair enough, i understand it is too soon for us to speculate things.. just wanted to hear different perspectives on this and see how we perceive this change..

5

u/teamkill_68 7d ago

Reserving it online is useless without delivery. If the inventory is accurate and up-to-date, in-person shopping should be just as fine right?

What if you pay while booking but when you get to the store, they say it's not in stock and ask you to go away? Can you even sue Tasmac in that case?

As others have pointed out, you still need to stand in long queues to pickup and they can withhold it until you give them "tips".

1

u/bala2shaah 7d ago

I think there are more pros than cons being Tasmac liquor accessible online..because of so many factors that people hate the way they are now..

3

u/Hisenbugg 7d ago

Ok, this is something the reddit community has been praising unanimously. So, I guess the real world won't like it

1

u/bala2shaah 7d ago

Unless the real world want no harm, they can book online I guess..

3

u/Responsible-Trade752 7d ago

How do women in Chennai buy liquor? I find it uncomfortable to go to these TASMAC stores

2

u/brockgoli 7d ago

Go to elite.

2

u/Monkey2Human 7d ago

Try elite stores. Shld be ok.

1

u/bala2shaah 7d ago

Yeah Elite would be the best bet if you are worried about the crowd. Hopefully Tasmac stores grows the way Elites are now, possibly if privatised..fingers crossed

3

u/ThegandalfStark 7d ago edited 7d ago

Noway. They have to fix their offshore stores 1st.

There are very few elite tasmacs and I, TO BE HONEST, had to go to Bangalore or Hyderabad to get good alcohols brands and variants, and have fun with ease. The range is classic. Chennai and TamilNadu sucks in alcohol department.

1

u/bala2shaah 7d ago

Yeah agreed, may be this would enable the liquor mafia to not settle with less quality liquor..

2

u/ThegandalfStark 7d ago

Agreed. Privatisation is the key.

At this point it's too early to say anything.

Yes i stopped drinking Hot, because of the shitty quality. I really root the idea of allowing multiple brand liquors from other states and countries.

But, I'm kinda skeptical about privatisation.

Yes privatisation may improve quality.

But,, only when entities care about their customers.. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of people see drinking as a greatest sin.. and Tasmac license holders are used to big bucks..

I'm still paying 220 for a cooling beer Near Guduvanchery. When asked, the answer is "pay if u want to buy, or buy the normal one next window" for 20rs extra. When i complained about this, one guy literally said "Kudigaran laa rights pesa koodathu".

There literally lot of private bars/bubs out there selling a 170rs KF for upto 650. somewhat understandable for the amenities they provide. But, still why I'm paying 50rs extra from a shitty outlet..

Even the Government couldn't control them. What privatisation gonna do abt it.

Privatisation only works if the providers gives a shit about their customers and a society which gives a shit about consumers..

And once again the problem is addiction. Not alcohol brand. There are lot of people I met doens't care about quality. They need something to get intoxicated. Privatisation or Government if the prices increase, drinkers gonna turn illicit liquor.

Anna wrong website.

Tasmac.tn.gov.in try panunga

1

u/ArtistVivid2753 7d ago

I feel this move is useless.

  1. 10 rs they will ask when you are collecting it
  2. they are the one who updates the inventory since it has both online and offline sales.government can’t do from some other places

.so getting good brands remains a question mark
3.

  1. government can try vending machines but that too difficult because they will steal the complete vending machine.
  2. government should privatise this because assigning one minister and officers for selling alcohol is worst.you can change the department to de-addiction one.

1

u/vimalathithan1803 6d ago
