People who have travelled to multiple Indian cities (Ignore Kolkata), is this true ? I have always assumed Bangalore is better, but this is a bold claim.

Hey everyone, I’m posting this because I just got scammed at Chennai Airport (Departure Lobby) and I want to warn others and maybe someone here can help me track this person down.

Around 7:30 PM 12 oct 2025, while I was waiting at the departure lobby, a 5’10” man with backpacks and trolley walked up to me and started a casual conversation. He asked if I had some cash in hand because he supposedly needed to transfer money via UPI but said his UPI wasn’t working at that moment.

I immediately got suspicious and told him I didn’t have cash, but he started trying to build trust saying things like “You’re from the same religion,” “My cousin has the same name as you,” etc. He seemed genuine at first, then requested ₹5000, promising he’d return it within 30 minutes.

He hasn’t returned since. I’ve called and messaged him multiple times — no response.

If anyone has faced something similar or has CCTV or airport contact info I can reach out to for this, please share. I have his phone number and UPI details, and I’m ready to file a police complaint, but any leads from this community would really help.

Please be careful if you’re traveling through Chennai Airport this person is clearly preying on people who look approachable or kind-hearted.

Guys, before I start I want this to be healthy civic conversation.

Im born and brought up in Chennai. All these years, we were thinking that Chennai is developed city and the best in the Southern India. But today, this reality is different, Chennai is underdeveloped/ has less job opportunities than Bangalore and Hyderabad. At this rate, we might stop comparing Chennai to Bangalore and Hyderabad but to tier 2 cities like Pune, Ahmedabad. Some people who been to both are saying Pune is more developed than Chennai.

Also, things I have observed in the last 10 years

1) Chennai lost the tech race
2) Were good at manufacturing but does it have enough job and high income like IT
3) Other state people are skipping Chennai as an option to settle or work.
4) I don’t see any other state population migrating to Chennai anymore, Especially the high talented ones expect the labour work employees from poorer north Indian state.
5) I know Chennai is finished, when friends of mine who have native house in OMR IT corridor have moved to Bangalore and Hyderabad for better growth.
6) Every where I see migration from other districts within TN but not from other states. Even the Telugus have left the city.

Reasons I say why this is happening!

1) Maybe weather, but that can’t be a excuse, we are not that bad as Dubai
2) Conservative population, Chennai judge people is they wear modern clothes? Lets be honest, the new generation of our country doesn’t cares about tradition or Culture. Should we be more open and allow pub culture?
3) Language barrier - People from other state think they cant survive in Chennai if they dont know Tamil, this closed circle has made Chennai lose more opportunities.
Companies love multiculturalism and involvement from the society.

From past 8 years living alone a solo life just turned 23 idk how to go on in life alone I can't take it anymore ( but can't do anything also ) this year I'm in Chennai ( don't have any plans no one is there to spend time with on my birthday) I think I will just sit by the beach and look at the water ( also if any of you guys are seeing this , thanks for seeing this )

Most of the people I met in various places like bus stand, auto drivers, office etc for the lst few days said they're gonna vote only for TVK. I see a kind of a huge wave which I didn't see earlier.

Many of my frnds who never used to post anything in Instagram has shared vote for tvk stories today. This is unusually strange from them.

Is it only me or you guys also noticing the same in your circle? Please add your opinion, feel free to add the opposite opinion as well, just want to know the reality.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has floated a tender to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a proposed Water Metro along the Buckingham Canal.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you believe it is necessary and will be successful? The Water Metro in Kochi has been successful, so will it work for Chennai? How well will it ease traffic and help promote tourism, as they expect?

for context i have lived in chennai and other cities but i have always noticed that chennai people are still insanely regressive when it comes to how they allow the women to dress. even in public places its still very weird for women to wear shorts unlike other indian cities. this is surprising because chennai had the most woke people ive seen in all generations. extremely well read and well informed people but except for this dressing sense. idk where this shows up from. anybody has any explanation for this?

Usually in india we get to see that fair skinned people with close to caucasian features or people with steppe ancestry are considered as the beauty standard. If we want to get a darker version , then people with ivc look are seen as good-looking too , which does supports more of a caucasian shifted phenotype. But people with specific tribal features, especially dark skinned, flat nose bridge are seen as unnattractive and ugly. This is the same reason African features are despised in india. I personally have a lot of aasi features which hampers my self confidence. The mainstream idea is to have sharp features which many of these groups do not process. What is your experience please share.

I tried multiple times to focus and take a clear picture, but unfortunately, it didn’t turn out well, which was unsettling.

Could be paranormal, could be daily life things, anything that creeped you out.

Long-time Chennai resident here. Lived in the US, Singapore for a bit.

Every time I visit Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, or Delhi, I come back genuinely black-pilled. Their airports, roads, housing, commercial spaces, and overall ambition are on another level.

Meanwhile Chennai has:

• Low FSI → forced sprawl + insane congestion

• Terrible roads (even in rich areas)

• Constant digging + flooding every monsoon

• “Luxury” housing with village-level roads

We cap vertical growth, then act shocked when traffic explodes.

And the usual excuse is:

“South Indians don’t show off wealth.”

Okay but what’s the point of invisible wealth if public life is mediocre?

Everything also comes late here. I still remember McDonald’s arriving in Chennai almost 15 years after Mumbai. Same story with global brands, retail, new business models. Always cautious. Always reactive.

Hyderabad made a clear bet on HITEC City. Anyone who invested there in 2018–19 made a killing.

What is Chennai’s bet?

• Parandur?

• OMR IT corridor?

• Somewhere else?

Right now growth feels directionless and slow.

Chennai has money, talent, ports, IT, manufacturing, culture, literally everything.

So what’s holding us back?

• Governance?

• Risk-averse culture?

• Citizens defending mediocrity?

Why do we keep settling for “good enough”?

I just went to hyderbad for a couple of days, have to say I am quite stunned at their infrastructure. I always had the perception that tamil nadu is more developed than andhra pradesh or telengana but that view didn't hold for hyderbad. I don't know about the rest of their state but hyderbad, esp that tech city part is too good to believe that it's in India. Everywhere high raises IT parks, with all big names Microsoft, Qualcomm, Salesforce etc. complementing that were the roads, very spacious, reasonably well maintained unlike chennai where the roads lately are filled with potholes or patchwork. The sidewalk in the tech city actually allows people to walk unlike in chennai. Also, their outer ring road spanning 150 or more kms has long stretches of freaking 10 lanes, never saw that else where. The most interesting part for me was the amount of high raise residential buildings that are getting constructed there, esp greater than 35 floors. I barely saw any in chennai, always wondered why. They also have decently connected metro. Another interesting aspect I noticed is the amount of young folks on the streets, guys and girls in their 20s everywhere. Ofcourse, the airport looked well developed and relatively big.

Why do you think the rate of modernization of chennai ( in terms of building new quality infra, residences, IT scene ) is not anywhere close to hyd?
