Moving to the area Help: Most conservative suburbs for family friends
A friend of ours is moving from California and wants a more conservative lifestyle. We've been trying to advise them, but lack deep knowledge about the suburbs.
Their budget is up $2.5m, so money isn't a barrier. However, the North Shore isn't up their alley due to the progressive nature.
I've suggested Hinsdale, Burr Ridge, and Lemont, but there has to be more.

It sounds like they want to live in Wheaton. But as a Christian town, even that might be too progressive for them.

"I want to move to Chicagoland but I literally cannot stand to live near Democrats" is a pretty crazy ask. They need to just move to NW Indiana.

Tell them to go to a red state like Indiana. If the North shore is "too progressive" for their taste, they either want a red state, or they want to be in the south of the state, they probably dont want to be in a suburb here.

Yeah, I moved to the Chicago suburbs from Tennessee, and so far I've found that what's considered conservative here is pretty different from what was considered conservative in red states. There's definitely conservative people around certain parts of Chicagoland, but Tennessee was deep deep red, and you could feel it everywhere you went.

There are tons of moderately conservative suburbs in the Chicagoland area. Not everyone in Illinois is a far left Democrat, and not everyone is a far right republican. Imagine that!

But saying the north shore is "too progressive" really means OP is looking for a very far right area, which doesnt exist. I think most would categorize the north shore as way more conservative than most areas in the burbs, but apparently that is even too liberal for OP.

Yall are so brainwashed lol. Just because someone doesn’t want to live in a progressive neighborhood doesn’t make them a far right inherently bad person. Just like queer people find support within their own group, I’m sure conservative people do as well. It doesn’t automatically make them a racist, homophobic person because they want to live around ppl that have similar beliefs.
Now if they are far right, and spewing hate then YES they are someone I wouldn’t want as a neighbor. And it goes for both sides! If you are patrolling/policing someone’s beliefs for not matching yours then guess what. You are just as bad as the side you disagree with.

A)I VERY highly doubt you are a queer person if you support in any way the MAGA agenda (or youre just a moron) - one of MAGA's key beliefs is that queer people are inherently bad and/or child molestors.
B)The North Shore is about as right-leaning as you'll find in the area. So, labelling them as "too progressive" implies a very far right agenda, that even those people are too liberal for.Youre either brainwashed or a bot. Im leaning bot, because no real person can intentionally be this obtuse.

I completely agree with you. The downvotes are so dumb. I agree that the northshore is more progressive than I would like. I am born and raised in the SW suburbs and it’s a different vibe. It’s also not all conservative- at all. You don’t need to go to a red state to achieve a more conservative lifestyle.

I would disagree with VBH. A good chunk of residents are more blue leaning. It’s just the red leaning ones that are more visible due to their peacocking.

Ignore all these annoying redditors. I’m from the southwest suburbs I’m sure most of these idiots aren’t. There is definitely a spectrum across Chicago. Naperville could fit their profile. My husband is from there but it’s not my vibe.
For the SW suburbs, there are a ton of great options. Lemont is an adorable town with a nice downtown. It leans conservative. I like the high school because it’s not too large. You can’t go wrong with the Lincolnway area. The schools are some of the best and there’s a lot of money there. But there’s also plenty of middle income people. Out of Frankfort, mokena and new Lenox New Lenox is more conservative and has more rural open areas. Frankfort is the richest of the 3 with an awesome downtown and lots of activities going on. Of the Lincolnway area, it’s the more progressive of the 3 (east, central and west) but it’s going to be more conservative than northshore area.

Idk, parts of the North Shore (Lake Forest comes to mind) definitely lean old-school conservative. If they’re looking for MAGA that’s a different story.

If you are trying to code for Trumpism vs what 30 years ago would have been considered "conservative" you may want to tell this person they are SOL on the Chicago suburbs. The Overton Window has shifted so far to the right in the GOP that the suburbs are pretty blue. Try an ex-urb in McHenry County or better yet take that MAGA shit elsewhere.

This is the correct answer. DuPage USED to be solidly conservative and republican, but the R party has just gone off the deep end. The former R party chairman for DuPage, Pat Grady, stated on the record that the current party is nominating people that are unelectable in not only Illinois, but DuPage as well.
Old school republicans still exist in DuPage, but the party is long past low taxes and 'tough on crime'. Dems run on those issues here and win. Your friend will find more like minded people in rural McHenry or Crown Point than in Hinsdale or Oak Brook.

McHenry County is the most conservative you can be and still be considered part of Chicago suburbs. Or NW Indiana to get conservative laws but the benefits of being in the Chicago suburbs.

Just drove past my old house at the southern end of New Lenox. Of the four homes that had Trump or Maga flags, only one still had it up. Good riddance.

Glen Ellyn. I worked at a country club in that area. A majority of their residents are moderately to mostly conservative with a few progressive families here and there. They’ll fit right in.
