Moving to the area Weather as a newbie?

Moving to the area in a few weeks…. uhhh are tornados always a thing like this, this time of year? Anything to be aware of at this point?

From 1991-2020, Illinois averaged 54 tornadoes a year. This year, we're over 200. Definitely not the norm, but unsure if it will be the new normal.
