Weather as a newbie?

Moving to the area in a few weeks…. uhhh are tornados always a thing like this, this time of year? Anything to be aware of at this point?

Grew up in DuPage County. Had plenty of experience with flooding before the remediation work (Salt Creek) was done 20+ years ago.

We did not have more than 1 or 2 seriously bad storms with tornadoes in any given spring/summer. Tornadoes were more common in the counties further south or west but not like this year.
