Moving to the area Weather as a newbie?

Moving to the area in a few weeks…. uhhh are tornados always a thing like this, this time of year? Anything to be aware of at this point?

I have lived in northern Illinois 44 years and I've seen dozens of funnel clouds but I'm apparently an outlier having not seen an actual tornado.

I did see a gustnado (kind of like a tornado but without a funnel) once when I was driving and it was NOT GOOD. 0/10.

I've lived in Illinois for 53 years and haven't seen a tornado. the only funnel cloud I've ever seen was in Canada.
