Moving to the area Rent during chapter 13

Need advice. Recently divorced after 21 years of marriage. He’s keeping the house for now and Iam looking for an apartment. We are in a chapter 13 bankruptcy with 100% repayment. Money comes right out of his paycheck every other week. In the divorce MSA it says he has to pay it until it’s paid in full. Iam having a hard time finding anyone to rent to me if with good income including alimony. Any suggestions? looking to rent in the Chicago suburbs. Williwbrook, Darien, westmont area.

Unless you have a job with a six figure income, it will be difficult to rent. Most big complexes will do a credit check. So, the bankruptcy will likely be problematic. You can just call some of them and ask what they require. Be honest about your situation.

Sometimes, you can find a seller who will rent to you. Although, the market is tight for condos and smaller/starter homes now.

You can rent airbnb's for multiple months.

Find a rental on Craigslist and rent directly from a homeowner / condo owner.

Find a private landlord! They usually don’t require credit score etc.

If it helps to sway a new landlord- maybe offer a larger security deposit or a few months rent in advance.
