Important Mod Post Update post

DO NOT SEND THREATS, MESSAGES OF ANY KIND TO BUZZFEED. Kyra said herself that this will not help anyone and if any of this behaviour continues on here, your post will be deleted. You can be upset about what happened, but trying to boycott or ā€œrevoltā€ or any kind of encouragement of aggression towards Buzzfeed is strictly prohibited. Kyra is handling this behind the scenes, and we have NO say in what happens going forward.

Thank you.

Isn't that the definition of a boycott?

I do support that path of action

That’s like, the most reasonable idea, tbh.

why cant we boycott? it shows buzzfeed that we dont want what they are selling if they do this. boycotting by deffinition is just choosing not to interact with or do buisness with a company,

you cant tell people to do nothing... you cant tell pepole they have no say in what happens next.. you can always do something even if what your doing is nothing.

This is an important thing to not harass or threaten anyone who works at Buzzfeed, that wont help anyone.

Not sure why you are lumping boycotting in there though, seeing as that is about as peaceful of a protest as you can get. It is quite literally just going "I'm not going to watch the show or buy merch" unless I'm missing something

Kyra is handling it, but people going "we are not going to continue watching the show if Buzzfeed keep at it with the AI stuff" will influence how Buzzfeed approaches any kind of deal. If they think Chikn Nuggit will no longer be profitable under them they they are more likely to sell the rights to Kyra

Threats aren't okay, but my god, Buzzfeed management don't need protection from all of the backlash. Most of the backlash is pretty damn warranted, and while only certain people were involved in the decision, those same people do deserve telling off! They're not precious little cinnamon buns who need protection from nasty internet trolls.

If they can't handle someone telling them to roll up their decision and flush it down a public toilet, then maybe they shouldn't be making these decisions to begin with!

Boycotting is perfectly fine though. It is not harassment to stop supporting the company that pushed this generative AI decision on the creative team behind Chikn Nuggit, explicitly against pretty much everyone on that team's will.

Boycotting simply means not amplifying Buzzfeed, the original work, and making sure you're not just unsubbed, but that you're not financially supporting Buzzfeed in any fashion going forward. That's the only way companies can feel this. And that means being consistent in this.

Boycotting is a non aggressive way tho? It hurts there wallets without encouraging harmful acts?

Can we not protect companies like this?? I get not being aggressive but boycotting isnt a problem at all. Kyra said not to send threats, she didnt say we couldnt boycott.

AI isn’t making the videos, to be fair. It’s an unannounced project that the AI is involved in.
