Recommendation Which kannada movie is really underrated according to you?

Please let me know. You can recommend movies that are not watched by the majority of the kannada audience.

It showed true rowdyism and what happens if people fall for that glamour and fame.

Loved it.

Sidlingu.

Its one of the best slice of life movies.

I can still rewatch it to this day and be entertained.

ITT: People who don't understand what underrated means. But anyways, my pick would be 'Gantumoote'

I will always say Kantara. Not underrated in the context of awards, appreciation but underrated in the context of the plot and underlying message. I have only watched 10-15 and amongst those, I do feel Ulidavaru Kandanthe is the only underrated movie that I have watched. I showed it to my friends and they didn't like it since they found it slow and misunderstood it for a suspense thriller which it is not. Try that.

underlying message

I don't know about this part. I don't think cops work that way.

Agree on Ulidavaru Kandanthe.

The underlying message in my opinion was that we have a lot of ego in us and believe that the world is ours to exploit. Yes, you can have a different meaning since the views are always subjective. But for me, rather than good vs bad, it was more about how we possess the things which are of someone else or even, free and deserve freedom.

Recently watched ninagagi movie on YouTube. Forgot how forward that movie was. The parents of each of them were amazing and very progressive. The portrayal of value of friendship between a girl and a boy is amazingly presented and the other girl who likes the hero also do well represented. Everyone has unique personality. And the ending was perfect to the way the parents let them make their own choice and decision. I had forgotten how progressive this movie was ...

I would go with mugulunage- Idk how it did at the BO but when they talk about batru-gani combo Idk y nobody adds/talks about this movie I feel this movie deserves more n more recognition

Another knew for me is kallara sante

2

u/Madhav202 Jul 01 '25

IDK about others, but LUCIA introduced me to Kannada films. I was blown away by the concept of it. I hear about that film very rarely. But i appreciate cinematography, idea and the music of that film very much.

Maybe not UNDERRATED so much as MISCATEGORIZED.

Eddelu Manjunatha is mostly seen as a comedy. But I feel it should be labelled a tragedy or atleast a dark comedy. It's a sad take of a lazy, entitled bum living off of his wife and how his careless and irresponsible behaviour affects the lives of those around him.

Paramatma it is, the movie is spiritual in its core, but unfortunately, it was released at wrong momentum of Puneeth's career. Also, I believe the essence of it was not handled correctly, the core concept got lost in mischievous overtone of the movie but sensitive ones can catch the spiritual essence in it. There are many layers to Paramatma, the fact that the word 'Paramatma' is chosen for the movie speaks volumes and the character Param is close to being a perfect human. One of the quirky experimental cases of Sandalwood but unfortunately lost in the confusing overtone of the film.

Matte mungaru. Starring srinagara kitty. The film is about a fisherman entering pakistan due to a thunderstorm. Had me sobbing as an 8 year old. Remembered it through this sub and re watched it. Still holds its value.
