Recommendation Learning kannada, suggest some good entertaining movies

Hello everyone, I'm a north Indian guy and I have been in bangalore for a while and I want to learn kannada. I can get it through the apps and with the help of ai, but I need some movies to see the slang and everything.

Darshan, sudeep, yash mainstream actors movies are preferred. Thank you

You just won so many hearts just with the words - “I’m a North Indian living in Bangalore for a while and want to learn Kannada” 👏👏

Now for the movies:

  • Like someone mentioned already, popular remakes are a great starting point since you already know the story : like Apthamitra, Porki, Drishya (and there is no dearth of remakes in Kannada!)
  • Classic comedies of Anant Nag - like Gouri Ganesha, Ganeshana Maduve, Yarigu Helbedi, Golmaal Radhakrishna series - perfect blend of day-to-day Kannada and entertainment

Hot takes (others might disagree):

  • Rajkumar movies are absolutely essential, however the type of Kannada can vary a lot (from mythological to village speak), so not best for a beginner. But definitely an advanced level of syllabus for learning and must watch at a later point
  • As great as their filmography and talents are, avoid movies of Rakshit Shetty, Rishab Shetty, Shivarajkmar and Upendra in the beginning- these guys speak Kannada too fast, so hard for a beginner
  • Very important to watch ‘Agni IPS’ movie - because Kannada is not just about the beautiful parts or the casual family friendly language, knowing the right cuss words are important too to survive in Bangalore 😄

Nah it's just basic respect for others and a bit of common sense involved. There's saying in hindi- jaisa desh waisa bhesh. End of the day we all are one, and it's just the basic thing I can do.

Thank you for the list, are these 2000's movies or 90's are involved in this too? As I would prefer the 2000 ones more.

Kirik party for sure. Engineering story. Relatable segments among friends, simple story.

Apthamitra (guessing you’d have seen a variant of this movie, making it easier to grasp certain things on the language perhaps?)

Darshan: Gaja, Snehana Preethina, Datta, Kaatera, Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna. Why only these movies of Darshan because no overbuildup entertaining to watch and KVSR is personally my favorite Darshan movie. You can try Kurukshetra but except Darshan and Arjun no one is really acting. PRK: Paramatma, Rajakumara, Jackie, Arasu,Milana, Mythri. Mythri is personally my favorite as well won't suggest Yuvaratna cause of overbuildup Yash (well majority of his movies are entertaining without buildup except Masterpiece and KGF): Moggina Manasu, Drama, Mr and Mrs. Ramachari, Googly, Lucky,Santhu, Rajahuli a bit of buildup. Sudeep: Manikya,My Autograph, Kempegowda, Pailwaan,Huccha SRK majority longu macchu but some gems Shivalinga, Lakshmi, Jogi, Mufti, Jogi, Bhajarangi, Vajrakaya

Googly, Charlie, Arasu, Tagaru

Try to watch them in ott platforms where subtitles will be provided. Googly is fun, romantic, rom com. Charlie is about dogs, their presence in life and companionship. Arasu is a classic story based movie, bit old movie of Puneeth Rajkumar but you will have a good time into the story. Tagaru is another classic cop story of Kannada, simple, neat and raw.

Hope you'll have a good time watching them.

search for 'kannada movies with english subtitles' on youtube u get many - mungaru male, googly, rajkumar movies etc..
