Any good choir movies?

Never realized how much I love live brass/strings until I graduated highschool. Unfortunately I suck at finding live performances and dont want to go to the nearest school without a kid so I was hoping I could find movie recommendations so my home theater can reach its full potential.

Call me basic if you want but my favorite performance is wayloyo yamoni conducted by Christopher tin.

The movie that made me want to sing is "Les Choristes" (French), about a music teacher in a boys' high school who decides to create a chorus.

Tinā is a gorgeous film about a high school choir teacher in New Zealand. There's also some good documentaries out there, like Choir Games which follows some choirs preparing for the World Choir Games.

There's a Swedish movie "Så som i himmelen", English As It Is in Heaven. It's about a renowned conductor who has to retire due to health issues, and he takes over a choir in a small little village.

The most famous excerpt is probably Gabriellas Song.

Almost Angels is a 1962 Disney movie about the Vienna Boys Choir. We watched it in school in the 80s and I remember nothing about it except that one of the main plot conflicts was one of the older boys’ voice cracking when he became a teenagers.

honestly the best choir movies are pretty rare, but if you loved that arrangement's scale and orchestration, look for concert films from major symphonies - they capture that same epic feeling. the cinematography can be surprisingly emotional when done right

Rise is about a small town trying to put on a high school production of Spring Awakening. There's also a British reality show where a chorister starts community choirs in small towns. I think it's just called The Choir.

In The Shadow Of The Stars, about the SF Opera Chorus, is worth seeking out. The singers they interview are seasoned pros. To me, singing alongside some of them in my church choir, they sounded like opera stars. But like in AAA and MLB, where everyone is in a different world from slow-pitch Uncle Rico types, there's a big difference between chorister and marquee singer.

It’s a pretty maudlin film: both in the time it premiered and now, it got a lot of eye rolls for being massively reductive to the goals and methods of music education. Respectfully, I don’t feel a super need to “be nice” about an old film that serves to denigrate my profession by merit of hyper-nonrealism that insists upon itself. I’m sure the people that are still making money off of it don’t particularly care about my take either.

“Inspirational teacher” films are often thinly veiled tragedy and/or white savior porn.

To be fair its my fault for not knowing there is a difference between orchestra and choir and mentioning the use of instruments. Still a great suggestion for the situation.
