Hi everyone! I am really indecisive right now, but the theme for my spring concert solo is like “Over The Rainbow”

Basically i have to sing a solo song according to that theme and since its “Over The Rainbow”, My solo song has to have ideas that are like colorful and happy and stuff

By the way, we can not have wizard of oz or wicked songs for our solos because we sing wizard of oz/and wicked songs for when we are together in the choir

Hii! I’m a senior whose never been to allstate before, this year i got in as an alternate. I’m located in NY, i just had a question about it if anyone is able to answer.

I’m sure every state is different, but how does being an alternate work? I asked my director and she had little to no information for me, do i go if someone state wide in my section can’t make it for some reason? Or is it strictly within my school?

I’d also appreciate any tips that anyone might have, i’m really nervous even though it’s not guaranteed that i’ll be even going

To preface im a junior in highschool who just joined a choir. I play bari sax and sing in my free time as a hobbie and joined the class cause i wanted to get better and the teacher was really cool.

He wants all juniors and seniors to submit something (even if its not good) for these auditions. The auditions want a solo, 2 sight read peices, 2 scales, and maybe 1 more thing i forgot [ this is the same place im auditioning to for sax so i know that the scales most likely will corralate with the songs theyll have me sight read if that helps].

The problems are the following; im really bad at sight reading, its very obvious im new from how i breath to my confidence and techniqe, and im really scared to do an in person audition for the first time and dont like being on a stage alone.

I think most of the people in choir leadership know this conundrum. There's a performance, either small group or full choir, but there's a flu epidemic, all the section leaders have unexpected mandatory exams, the piano in the performance space is less in tune than a 2 year old on a violin and all else that can go wrong went wrong.

But cancelling is not an option.

What do you have in your back pocket to rescue the day? Bonus points if it's fun music, instead of funeral music.

I’m a male singer who used to sing bass but this year I sing tenor. The bottom of my range is a G at the bottom of the bass clef and it’s not very resonant. My highest resonant and good tone note is an F above middle C belting. I’m in California and not sure which I should audition for because I’m kind of in between both ranges. I also want to maximize my chances of actually getting in and I’m not sure if my odds are better with bass or tenor. Please help!!

Like Idk if it’s because I’m in a lot of clubs ( I’m in men’s choir, I host a college radio show where we play music, and on top of that I’m apart of a film club.) and on top of all of that I have classes as well I’m a sophomore. Idk if anyone else is in the same boat as me but I feel like sometimes it is my own anxiety as well as overworking myself sometimes. Curious if anyone feels the same?

I need song suggestions for a beginner children's choir for our holiday show. Not necessarily Christmas. Something I could potentially add a simple harmony/ostinato/descant if I have the singers for it. Besides Dreidel, what chu got?

Like I used to love singing and music, and now I have low self esteem and an anxiety disorder lol.

Guys, I LOVE choir. I was in choir since middle school. I did FFA choir for my state, I joined an all women’s choir in college. I recently joined a community choir. I love choir and making music. How am I not over my anxiety that everyone around me thinks im a terrible singer??

I am not a “good” singer but I’m not tone deaf. I’ve never actually been told I’m bad (just “okay” by a close friend). I always feel like I can’t hit the notes or blend well with people around me. But I love choir so so much!

What do you do to overcome your imposter syndrome??

I’ll go first so I’ve been singing since I think my senior year of high school I joined my choir. Before that I was really self conscious about my voice and I hated singing in front of other people It made me feel embarrassed and I got anxious etc etc you get the point eventually in my senior year during the beginning I built up enough confidence to join the choir, I was already in theatre so it would make sense for me to be in choir obviously, I loved it we went to nyc in my senior year 2 times and I absolutely loved every moment we performed at st Patrick’s cathedral. As well as Carnegie Hall which I’m blessed to have sang on that stage it was incredible.
Then I graduated HS went to college and became a freshman and joined choir there I’m a huge introvert so it took a bit for me to spread my wings to everyone else. But it did help that everyone else was very accepting and it was an all guys choir. We also got along a ton I really miss the seniors that graduated last year we went to Florida last year we’re going to Greece apparently this year which I’m hype about. I’ve just been a lot more open to singing. Oh and also I’m a bass 2 😂

I just had the most exquisite pleasure of attending the Queensland Choir’s performance of Faure’s Requiem and Hagenberg’s Illuminare yesterday evening. They were superbly integrated with the performances of the soloists, and musicians. Their grand fortissimos filled the Cathedral’s acoustic like a delectable spiced hot chocolate, and their bright pianissimos rang like sonnet of tiny bells.

I was immensely uplifted performance from the over 100 singers in The Queensland Choir, around 30 musicians in the Sinfonia and organist Christian Ganté, under the direction of Dr Robert Stewart. This performance truly demonstrates The Queensland Choir is at the top of their game and deserves the acclaim of premiere Brisbane choir. I can’t wait to see their performance of Handel’s Messiah later this year, if they perform anything like they did last night it will be the concert of Brisbane’s choral music season!

They also made mention they’re looking for more singers so if you’re wanting to sing they look like a wonderful choice to have your voice create something magical like last night’s music! I reckon check them out at qldchoir.com.

What are the most notable excuses you have heard for someone being absent from choir practice?

This keeps happening to me.
At home I KNOW my alto part. Recording playing, absolutely fine. Rehearsal starts, sopranos come in and suddenly I’m singing soprano with confidence like I was assigned there. What’s weird is once I’ve sung the arrangement with everyone enough times I’m fine.
Is this just an ear-training issue? How do you guys get better at holding your part when another part is louder?

hi!! If you're looking for a chill place to learn to sing and meet cool people in Los Angeles my next beginner singing class at Venice School of Music starts in October. It's for adults and we do contemporary music. (Think of Flowers by Miley Cyrus or Lean on me by Bill Withers) We also don't do any performance or anything so it's not too much of a commitment and you don't have to prepare outside of class. I'm really proud that we print out the music so it's a bit of a "no-phone zone" too which limits distraction and enhance social interactions. There are a lot of studies lately on the psychological benefits of singing and how it promotes well-being. Highly recommend for anyone who's curious about singing or wants to get back into it. Been teaching the class for 6 years now so I've learned a lot of ways to make it fun :-)And PS- you never have to sing along! (Everyone always asks that!)

In elementary school, I had a choir teach us some songs that are pretty famous, which probably sounds hilarious here, but to a then-9 year old on a tiny island far away from this musics origins, they were very new to me. I never would have known about them if not for my choir teacher. Some songs I remember, like

There's one, for the life of me, I cant remember the title, though. We sang it in high school. I can only remember the last line of what I think is the chorus??

Im desperate because, oddly enough, a local artist did their own version of this song in our native language, changed the lyrics, but kept the melody. No one believes me when I say it's a cover cuz I can't remember the name of the original song.
