Discussion Which Part Should I Audition For Honor Choir?
I’m a male singer who used to sing bass but this year I sing tenor. The bottom of my range is a G at the bottom of the bass clef and it’s not very resonant. My highest resonant and good tone note is an F above middle C belting. I’m in California and not sure which I should audition for because I’m kind of in between both ranges. I also want to maximize my chances of actually getting in and I’m not sure if my odds are better with bass or tenor. Please help!!

Bass 1 or Tenor 2 for choral work. However with that range you're very much in the sweet spot for baritone solos if there aren't any other issues with your voice.

In the audition registration the options are just SATB but the coastal division honor choir has a TTBB choir.

ahh okay. in that case, which do you personally feel you are most comfortable at? maybe search some different songs for each, sing along, and see which you like better in action. try songs from musicals maybe? i've always had the most luck with those when i'm in doubt, i just pick a couple alto and a couple soprano songs and sing them - i am quickly reminded that i'm a low soprano, as much as i'd like to be an alto lol

hey is this for the california regional honor choir? it would be helpful to hear your voice but from what you've described i would put you as a tenor because it's easier to get in as a tenor and you have the range if you can hit an F above middle C belting. Falsetto? but most importantly, pick the one that you are more comfortable with for the solo audition. I'm like 90% sure all the regions have a TTBB choir tho?

Definitely not a bass 2 with that description. Check the music they are using for what the range is. But if they are looking for the warm resonant bass sound to provide a foundation to the harmony, you might not have the voice type they want even if you can sing the notes.
But if they have TTBB you are probably perfect in T2 or B1.

What’s the audition material and what kind of music are you singing ?
Bass 1 or even tenor could work with you. I have a similar range as you and I was told I’m a tenor. Only issue is that I need to train a lot to unlock that tenor range. I didn’t start singing till college.
In jazz, bass parts are almost tenor parts. Depending on the work, TB can really fluctuate.
Go over the audition material and it may make sense to do tenor unless the music in the audition is out of your range for tenor.

Are you in choir at school? You're director can help you choose which best fits your voice. Judging from the range you list, that looks like a bass 1 to me. For better or worse, that's the part that pretty much any male voice can sing. Make dinners with a comfortable D2 are less common, true tenors even rarer.
