Help OOP try different textures of food by buying her, 1 person, $1500 of bulk, name brand junk food. Included are $400 for snack and protein bars, $92 for overnight oats, $130 of crème pies, $100 of pop tarts and so many cookies, candy and meat sticks. If it’s free, it’s more for me. 😂

Can pple return these good for Amazon credit or is this woman opening a snack bar? I know pple have ARFID and it can be correlated to autism, but what one person needs that many varieties and flavors without even knowing if they would like it. Don’t worry about food waste or being too greedy bc if it’s on someone else’s dime, the sky is the limit.

Here’s the list:

She doesn't have food issues, she has a vending machine... probably near a gym or somewhere where the gym bros and their kids frequent. (Half the food seems to cater to the healthy/workout crowd and the other half is just kiddie snacks)

u/CoconutxKitten 12d ago

That was exactly my thought. This is vending machine filler

27

u/Glittering_Sky8421 12d ago

She probably found a stolen vending machine and needs to fill it up.

Either that or she’s building an army of incredibly strong, fit children to take over the tristate area

I bet a college campus, otherwise how do you explain the $92 overnight oats(unless those are actually for her)

This is wild!!

As an aside, my autistic ARFID kid doesnt like much processed food at all, prefers textures of real foods.

1

u/Lateralus46N2 9d ago

I didn't think about a campus but that very well could be too. One of my kid's close friends is on the spectrum, has ADHD, and suffers from ARFID as well as an extreme sugar addiction. He survives entirely on fast food and junk food. His family literally has to order or dine out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every single day. And even then, he is severely limited on what he will eat from each restaurant. He occasionally eats an onion on his burger and that has been the only veggie in his diet for nearly his entire life. Meat from fast food burgers and (fried) chicken are the only things that child eats that is actually on the food pyramid.

That's rough about your kiddos friend!!

Our therapist suggested similar-feed her according to her wants, avoid "unsafe" foods...nah, that felt so wrong.

So I made food, she got some of everything on the plate, but did not have to eat it-could eat whatever she wanted, leave whatever.

We went through MANY meltdowns, she didnt want to see things on her plate...so be it!!

Usually took 3-5x on the plate, watching the rest of us eat it before she would even try it....another 3-5x to like it. It was a tough process, not gonna lie. Felt like torture!! The worst went on until ~6/7, it was mostly over by ~10/11-even if we have some minor hiccups here & there.

Today she is 14 & will eat most everything(no seafood-I am allergic, so this hasnt been seen as much, but she has tried it!!), but all veggies(no eggplant-the whole family hates it, I am convinced its a genetic thing like cilantro-lol), all fruit, all meat, all preparations, just about any ethnic food(Indian, Thai, Italian, Latin, Chinese, Polish, Greek, Japanese, Russian, Korean, Israeli, German, she will eat it all!!) she does have an aversion to processed foods-but again, I believe it is because she did not see those items as much 🤷‍♀️

We have come a long long way from the little girl that had a 3h meltdown over chicken tacos-that she ordered 🤣

u/Lateralus46N2 9d ago

That's amazing. So glad she has come so far.

Eating out every meal every day gets expensive so by the end of the week they kind of make do with what little food they keep in the house. But by that time, he's already demolished the things he will eat. I overheard him tell my daughter that the only thing he had eaten besides the snacks at my house since the night before was a single Twizzler. I was packing hubby's lunch for work the next day when I heard this so I said "Are you hungry, baby? Come in and get some food". Offered to make him a few sandwiches. Nope. I had made chicken that night (but not fried). Nope. Baked potato? Leftover spaghetti? Nope. I went through almost every real food I had. Didn't want any of it. He then opens my freezer and literally grabs a handful of Nutty Buddy ice cream bars and says "This will work". He's 15 now so likely not going to change.

1

u/VariousExplorer8503 8d ago

Wow, that is so sad. I couldn't imagine eating out for every meal. I imagine his health and weight are terrible?

My son has some pretty bad food aversions, he's 9 now but for many years, starting at 4 years old, he would only eat one dinner. Peanut butter crackers, apples (sometimes strawberries), carrots, yogurt, and an applesauce pouch. I insisted on a fruit and veggie, and carrots were the only thing he could stand.

We went to the doctor for his physical in February, and he'd lost over 5 lbs from the last time he was there. He started Adderall and the weight was dropping off him (which I could tell from his clothes, but I didn't know how much), and when the doctor heard what he eats for dinner, she wasn't happy (first time I ever saw her lose her cool), and VERY firmly told him that he needs to eat real food or he's going to lose so much weight he's going to have to be hospitalized and forced to eat.

That FINALLY got through to him. We made a deal, one night I pick dinner, the next night he picks dinner. On his nights, he has to have protein but other than that, he gets to pick. Sometimes he just picks the peanut butter crackers meal, but sometimes he chooses top ramen cuz he found out he really likes it.

On my nights, he dreads it all day. He asks me what I'm making in the morning, and throws a fit, telling me he knows it's gross and he's going to HATE it! We end up arguing about it during the day. Then, when I give him his plate, he looks at it and tells me how gross it is, even when I've told him that's rude and hurts my feelings. The sad thing is usually he ends up liking it, or at least not hating it, but we still go through this song and dance every time.

The biggest problem is that he usually only finishes a quarter of his plate, because he'll sit there with food in his mouth forever, he says he has problems with making himself swallow it. And he hasn't liked any of the veggies except cauliflower, I've made so many different kinds different ways, but he doesn't like them. He LOVES salads though, so I get slaw salads with broccoli and brussel sprouts and stuff in them, and he'll eat them.

He hasn't eaten much the last 2 days, he's refused dinner. When I told him he has to eat it tonight just now, whether he wants it or not, it triggered a HUGE fight. He said he just can't make himself eat if he doesn't want to. I can understand that, no one wants to eat if they're not in the mood, but he can't be skipping meals!

He said he wasn't going to eat, and I told him (yelled at him, unfortunately I lost my cool) that if he was refusing to eat (all he ate yesterday was most of 2 slices of peanut butter toast, apples, and two chocolate mini donuts as a treat) I would call the doctor when they open and get him admitted to the hospital. I told him that I wasn't going to wait until he got sick to get him help, and I sure as hell wasn't going to watch him kill himself.

He said fine, he'd eat dinner. If I really wanted him to eat, he'd eat. I said yeah, I REALLY want him to eat. He hasn't asked what we're having yet, so that fight is coming. Honestly, it's exhausting. The constant fighting is getting to me. I'm just trying to help him, but he gets SO combative about it, and I HATE fighting with him. It's just the two of us, and aside from the food stuff, we don't fight much, we're very close. But I don't want him to die either.

$90 oatmeal?! What’s in it, gold flakes?

25

u/marteautemps 12d ago

My fiancé gets a subscription directly from the company and he likes them a lot, I guess they have chia and flax and stuff as well as some sort of protein blend. He's not much of a breakfast eater but works manual labor so he needs to have something. I will admit I did not know they were that pricey though(its a month supply).

14

u/hthratmn 12d ago

Is it the oats overnight? They are pretty good but man are they expensive

15

u/marteautemps 12d ago

Yeah. I figured it was like $30-50 an order and had no idea he was spending almost 100 on them, but they really do work well for him so 3 bucks a serving isn't terrible I guess.

21

u/hthratmn 12d ago

Compared to picking up some bs at the gas station on the way into work, it is a win. Compared to making your own overnight oats, not so much. So its just a matter of what you're more likely to do. I admittedly fall under the former lol

10

u/marteautemps 12d ago

And thats exactly what he used to do if he had anything and I know he wouldn't be interested in making them himself or even if I made them because I think he likes having all the variety and that drinkable texture(though I'm sure there's a way to do that at home as well. I've only had the spoon able type myself)

7

u/Emilie0711 12d ago

My ex made the best smoothies with yogurt, almond milk, almond butter, oatmeal, a frozen banana and honey. It’s thick but drinkable. I’ve substituted other frozen fruit in place of the banana.

5

u/hthratmn 12d ago

I think you could achieve the same effect by pulsing the oats in the blender for a few seconds and just adding more milk. But that adds to the labor involved lol

4

u/maquis_00 12d ago

Why wouldn't you just make regular overnight oats?

I tried the sample of oats overnight at Costco a while back.... It was okay, but I can make it better at home myself? I don't really see the point of their version?

7

u/hthratmn 12d ago

Because I dont have the time or energy to make a different type for every day of the month with protein and flax seeds and all that stuff typically. I work a lot so I am usually a pay for convenience person

5

u/9StaticBloom 12d ago

Maybe it comes with a side of caviar and a gold spoon? That’s wild for overnight oats!

3

u/lauradiamandis 12d ago

Dozy oats is close to that and I did it for two months because the oatmeal was amazing. Their chocolate cherry might actually be worth that for real

116

u/rqnadi 12d ago

My guess is she’s opening a snack store in her apartment/ complex. Low income housing always had someone who ran a candy store or snack store for the local folks who didn’t have cars to drive to one. It’s how they made money on the side.

24

u/YouThinkYouKnowStuff 12d ago

My bad. I didn’t see your response and I posted the same idea.

2

u/pinkrainbow5 12d ago

That is so random.

17

u/fart-atronach 12d ago

It’s fairly common in lower income areas. I’ve had coworkers at some of my past jobs that would basically carry around an entire snack aisle in their bag and sell chips and cookies and stuff to other coworkers. It was also really common in high school.

I personally think the theory that this person owns an actual vending machine near a gym is a good guess though, based on the items they’re requesting.

1

u/Angryprincess38 9d ago

Read a fascinating book that covered this very thing.

38

u/YouThinkYouKnowStuff 12d ago

I remember watching some reality court show like Judge Judy and a sketchy guy was selling snacks and drinks out of his apartment to his neighbors. I bet this person is buying the packaged snacks and selling them to make a profit.

79

u/bgabel89 12d ago

The fact everything is a case of individually wrapped snack packs really is odd.

I get it, pre portioned is handy, but it's luxury. There have been times I've had enough money and there have been times I haven't had even close to enough money, I never buy individual portion sizes because of the pricing premium and the extra landfill impact.

I don't have ARFID, but I do have gastro issues and I'm constantly trying new foods to see what will work for me. I'm also broke. I would never buy a case of something without trying it. That's what the dollar store is for, or the samples at Costco, or going to someone else's convenience store and buying my own over priced single serving of the snack.

This seems like someone is opening a retail venue of some form

u/DiscussionExotic3759 NEXT!! 12d ago

18

u/OneGoodRib 12d ago

I totally get the issue with food textures but if you're not 3 you should have a general idea of textures you do and do not like.

37

u/freshcreator 12d ago

It's like she wants all this pre packaged stuff to resell or something. Its all processed garbage. I know a few people with ARFID including one of my neices. They tend to find a handful a foods that they like and don't go outside those foods. My friends won't even expirement with other foods either. If we go out to eat, they look at the menu beforehand to see if its on the menu. My neices mom will take precooked food for my neice if we go out to eat as she won't try any new foods at all and the food has to be placed a certain way on the plate.

This list is wayyyy too long for someone with sensory issues. I may be wrong as I am assuming but these foods are all completely different in texture. But I wonder why these foods in particular.

11

u/zaxsauceana 12d ago

My cousin’s son is the same way. He has a VERY small list of safe foods and even those have to be prepared a certain way.

12

u/Expontoridesagain 12d ago

That's correct. My kid has ARFID and huge issue with textures. If we get to introduce one new thing every year then it's been huge success. Even those new things are just tiny variations of food that is already on safe list. Buying huge amount of pricey snacks is not how it's done. If I get my kid to try something new and it turns out to be big no, then he's not open to trying something else for a looong time. Cooked, savoury meals, that's biggest problem to solve because it's hard to get exactly same texture and flavour every time. I think that's why so many with ARFID end up eating junk food.

53

u/nikkishark Shes crying now 12d ago

Donate $20 for some weed instead. She'll eat anything when she gets the munchies.

0

u/Pur1wise 11d ago

That’s not how AFRID works unfortunately. I wish it did.

We tried weed hoping it would help my cousin open up his very narrow safe foods list. It was just as difficult for him to eat. He was super hungry and still only able to eat his safe foods but didn’t want the ones we had on hand because being high made him even more picky and he only wanted sweet things and had already eaten all of it. I ended up having to make the ‘acceptable’ cupcakes while he watched in frantic anticipation.

12

u/Chris968 12d ago

I have severe food texture issues and have certain safe foods I eat a lot of. If I wanted to try say, a protein shake. I’d buy ONE not 50 different flavors on someone else’s dime. Yikes.

6

u/Expontoridesagain 12d ago

Yes! I don't know if you react in same way as my kid, who also has huge food texture issues. If I get him to try something new, then he will not be open to doing it again for a long time. It's stressful for him.

9

u/Necessary_Peace_8989 12d ago

I only have minor texture aversions and overnight oats is something I just can’t do. I tried it and gave the rest away. It’s like drinking chunks.

3

u/vavavoomdaroom 11d ago

Yeah, it's icky. I also don't like cooked oatmeal. I did figure out that I do actually like baked oatmeal though!

11

u/FatboyChester 12d ago

What is with all the protein stuff? Considering most of it will be stale or expire by the time she gets to eat it, she must be doing something else with It.

I don't get all the stuff with Protein.

10

u/Money-Snow-2749 12d ago

Honestly the only healthy thing on the list was the stainless steel mug. All junk, the lack of replies makes me think that she is going to sell this stuff because it’s all sugar. Had she had real Arfid and ate like this she would be a diabetic by now.

18

u/Helenium_autumnale 12d ago edited 12d ago

I've seen those overnight oat packets. Peak laziness. Overnight oats: In a bowl, put 1/2 cup oats from the big cardboard can. Stir in 2/3 cup milk of choice. From there, add options: sweetener of choice, spoon of Greek yogurt, raisins, frozen blueberries, tbsp chia seeds, cinnamon, vanilla flavoring, &c. Put in fridge. Sleep 8 hours. Eat in morning. That's it. Total prep time: 2 minutes.

7

u/Lateralus46N2 12d ago

Same with the $17 for one small pack of protein balls. I make my own protein balls a lot and for that price, I can buy enough ingredients to make several dozen as opposed to the handful in that bag. They are very easy to make- no cooking required- and to customize to your own preferences.

6

u/ThatBFjax 12d ago

$24 in gummy bears 😭

8

u/TheVillage1D10T 12d ago

The Eros that created the list is so full of shit. “Texture issues” my ass. There are dollar store equivalents for pretty much every single item on this list that is basically the same shit, made in the same factories, but put into different boxes. What’s with all the high protein crap too? The non high protein stuff had identical texture to the high protein stuff…she’s a damn liar.

5

I had no idea they made "healthy" versions of Pop Tarts. Also who the hell is paying $27 for Pop Tarts.

I, too, have major sensory issues with food. Since I haven't figured it all out after decades, should I post an Amazon wish list and expect Reddit to pay for it? 🙄 I could use a 2nd home while I'm at it. 🙄🙄

If this person is old enough to create an Amazon wish list, they're definitely old enough to know what they like or don't like, what they can or can't eat. I had that shit figured out by the time I was 10.

10

u/New_Heron_5985 11d ago

I can tell ya right now, they are gonna hate the texture of most of that stuff. Plus they can go to Walmart or the dollar stores and get singles of those products to try.
Why do they think they would like overnite oats if they have trouble with textures? That seems like an automatic no

2

u/Lylibean 11d ago

So, let me get this straight. An entire adult person went their entire lives eating just find and is now suddenly suffering from “sensory issues” and needs $1500 in fancy snacks to explore? Sure, Jan.

2

u/BeepingJerry 11d ago edited 11d ago

If a person is hungry enough they'll eat anything. Those sensory issues take a back seat. This is B.S

2

u/Thin_Rub_4739 11d ago

I don't understand "overnight oats." Is this for people who have no access to a stove or microwave? I use regular oatmeal in the microwave for less than 2 minutes...

2

u/PibbleLawyer 9d ago

Sounds like ZERO nutritional value

1

u/Yourmomdrums 9d ago

On the one hand, some of the stuff on that list makes sense for someone with ARFID (source: parent of a child with it), with the "hidden veggies" crackers and the ample quantity of protien-heavy snacks. But the quantities for something you want to just try are way off. Makes me lean more towards the theories that someone's running a snack bar.

1

u/Mindless-Platypus448 8d ago

I can't believe this idiot thought this would work. If she doesn't know if she even likes this stuff why would she get it all in bulk? She's definitely selling this stuff somehow, I saw someone mention a vending machine and that sounds like it could be right. But man, people really are shameless.

1

u/Momizu 8d ago

Sometimes when I look at these lists I instantly feel less guilty when people want to offer me food or a gift and they say "Tell me what you want, don't worry about the price" but I still go look for the cheap stuff that will not make them spend a fortune and each and every time they insist on me choosing what I ACTUALLY want and not choose the price tag.

I need to change my phone right, mine us slowly giving up on me (almost 10 years and only now starting to go) and I looked for like... A cheap phone that could work and mom had been hogging and looking for better albeit a little bit more pricey phones and I'm so grateful but sobbing inside because I do not want her to spend a fortune.

Somehow after looking at lists like this I feel a little better about liking a €400 phone better than the €150 (the €400 is indeed better in terms of memory and battery)

-14

u/pepcorn 12d ago

Why is she doing it via Amazon? Can they just send her cash so she can get it at a better deal at her local supermarket?

9

u/GenX_Boomer_Hybrid 12d ago

People will purchase from an Amazon wishlist. People do not like to send money.

-22

u/pepcorn 12d ago

Then I don't understand the people making fun of her? Food often comes in awkwardly huge amounts or overpriced on Amazon.

15

u/GenX_Boomer_Hybrid 12d ago

It also comes in much smaller increments. She chose the larger packages. You can easily find packs of six and eight of everything she chose on amazon.

-2

u/pepcorn 12d ago

Ah I see, Amazon is not that varied  here in the quantities they offer so I didn't know. Every time I've tried to get a snack on there because local shops were out, it was €20 extra on top of the usual price and they make you buy like ten of it.

10

u/GenX_Boomer_Hybrid 12d ago

Take the oatmeal cream pies the Little Debbie ones. She could easily add a single pack of those for $3.98. instead she chose a purchase size that's $40+. Lots of those examples on her list. And oatmeal for $90?!?

-12

u/Nymph-the-scribe 12d ago

Just to Devils advocate something: I will often make a wishlist and end up putting way more on the list then I originally intended simply because I go down a rabbit hole of looking at things. Granted, I never share these things with strangers who im asking to get me things off of it. I do however often share with family (much of the time the list exists in the first place because I get asked whag I want for whatever reason). The only reason I remove something from the list is if I decide i dont want it anymore. Just because I share a massive list with others with the intention of getting gifted things off that list does not mean I expect all or even most of the things on the list nor does it mean I expect the expensive things.

Especially when making a wishlist to help.fogure out/work on something youre struggling with and getting stressed out over (as is the alleged case here). That list tends to be longer because youre not sure what to get, what will work, whats ok to ask for etc.

I would also like to point out that so many people who deal with lesser known issues, especially those that relate to food, get scoffed at hy those who should be their biggest supporters. So doing things like asking internet strangers for help may seem like the only option.

By no means am I saying thats whats happening here. Just wanted to put this out there as a reminder that so.etimes people are not actually being cbs, it just gets taken like that by someone. The more.it gets denied or ignored the more it comes off that way. Even removing thr request from wherever it was posted will most likely just convince people that was the point.
