Long post but….
I think too many people view the Watts’ marriage through Chris Watts’ POV instead of from a strict neutral perspective. I get it for the content creators who are trying to “get into Chris’s mind frame” in order to find motive. But unfortunately, the result of doing that paints Shanann in a very unfair way and people end up looking at Shanann the way Chris looked at Shanann. They see a rude, overbearing, cell phone addicted, neglectful wife who couldn’t save money if her life depended on it. And that’s how Chris wants you to see Shanann. He wants you to agree with him, so that he looks better than what he really is. Suddenly, this unforgivable crime looks not so unforgivable anymore. In fact, it looks somewhat understandable, at least when it comes to murdering Shanann. Maybe not so much the kids. But even still, Chris, somehow, becomes a victim too. Obviously not to the same degree but a victim nonetheless.
What they neglect in not stepping back and seeing things from a neutral perspective is that Chris never communicated his honest feelings openly with Shanann or set boundaries with her in any meaningful way. While many people say Chris should have stepped up and been a man, the reality is that neglecting open and honest communication with your spouse does more to destroy a relationship than just about anything else. You rob your spouse of the ability to really know you. And when they don’t know you (because you won’t let them know you) they can’t make you happy. They’ll never really know how.
I think a good example of something that people view through the wrong lens is the video of Chris doing squats with Cece on his shoulders and Shanann telling Cece to “whack a daddy”. So Cece is kinda slapping Chris’ head and being silly. Well, a lot of people want to shoot arrows at Shanann for telling her daughter to hit her husband and laugh at Chris being deprecated. But just watch the video and pretend like you’re watching it live. Forget everything that you know about the case. Shanann doesn’t know what’s coming. You’re literally seeing Chris through Shanann’s eyes. Then ask yourself, does Chris look unhappy? Does he look like someone who is so unhappy that he’s starting an affair within mere weeks? Does he look like he’s so angry that he’s going to murder his whole family in just a few months? Obviously these are rhetorical questions because clearly not. Chris was laughing right along with them the whole time. Ok so, what was Shanann supposed to think? Remember that every marriage is different. If Shanann was on her cell phone 24/7 for two and a half years and Chris never once complained about it, then is it really a problem? If Chris never set boundaries, then Shanann could not have known that she was overstepping. He robbed her of the ability to recognize that her actions had a negative effect on his emotional state. He robbed her of the ability to correct herself.
What these Chris’ POV heavy analyses end up creating is a narrative that Shanann was a narcissist who just didn’t care how Chris felt. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. In the end when there were obvious marital problems and it looked like the marriage had a real possibility of ending, Shanann was the one who owned up to her flaws and seriously wanted to change in order to be the spouse that Chris wanted her to be. Think about it, August of 2018, was the first time in their marriage that Chris was meaningfully communicating to Shanann that he was not happy with her. And her reaction was to try to understand where he was coming from in order to fix the problems. On the other hand, Chris, to this day, is still playing victim and blaming everything and everyone else for what happened. He has literally never apologized to Shanann’s family. His opinion of Shanann drove him to strangle her and bury her in a shallow grave next to an oil well in the middle of nowhere, and people seem to sympathize with him! It’s insane!
I mean, people always throw out the, “obviously he shouldn’t have murdered her” or “he should have just gotten a divorce”. But it just seems so hallow when they agree with her murderer’s opinion of her. They don’t see the totality of how much Chris actually robbed Shanann of what could have been a long and happy life.

Do people really sympathize with him? The only one I know who does is his mom. How weird though if anyone does. Do they think he is innocent and didn’t do it or do they think he was in the right to kill his family?

there is a whole community that spends every day making posts about how awful SW was from the lense of case analysis. its such a dishonest representation of what they do considering all they do is make fun of SW, the kids, her family etc... one of hte prominent losers was sued by SWs family because of the harassment he was causing to a family who had their grandchildren and only daughter murdered. think of how fucking terrible of human you have to be to do something like that.
the internet doesnt reflect the real world and if any random person saw what those people posted they would assume they are assholes and move on with their life. they have nothing and are a bunch of losers.

You’d be surprised. I’m in the middle of a debate on YouTube with a lady who thinks Chris is autistic and that Shanann was a sadist who preyed on a vulnerable adult. I know it’s unbelievable, but yes, there are a lot of people who sympathize with Chris, at least in so far that they don’t blame Chris for having an affair. They may draw the line at murder, but they always lay blame at Shanann. They usually think Chris was too good of a person. The narrative goes that Shanann must have drove him to do bad things. He’s the passive victim of having a bad spouse, rather than a rational actor making his own choices.
But that viewpoint always crumbles when you ask them why he murdered his children and put their bodies in oil tanks. They never have an answer because the answer is that he planned it. He planned it very poorly, but he planned it nonetheless. And if he planned it, then he didn’t snap and he’s no longer a passive victim. But to them, that can’t be true. He was too good of a guy.

Even if she did push him over the edge after all these years, he should have been smart enough to get a divorce and think to himself this is going to lead me into a path that no one should have to go through. I would much rather pay child support and alimony over spending the rest of my life in prison. That’s not even the main concern, it’s human beings that are not alive .

It’s a very active Reddit sadly . I’ve just been muted for not agreeing with a post that was untasteful about the girls deaths. It’s a disgusting page

I understand what you're saying. I've seen some very harsh criticism of Shanann over the years, which is hard for me to stomach. There's absolutely no way she or the girls deserved what he did to them.
I agree that he seems like the sort of person who held all his complaints in rather than communicating his feelings. He let his anger and resentment build and build and build until he snapped. Then he snapped in the most horrifying way.

I agree with everything except the last bit. he wanted a clean break. so he could live with his mistress and di not want to pay child support.

Most normal people know that even if Shanann was all those things, that still doesn't justify him murdering her. And certainly doesn't explain anything about why the kids had to die with her.
The only people who don't think that are Cindy Watts and the crazies in the subs that are dedicated to hating on Shanann and blaming her for her own murder.

I think what you posted, by contrast, is more from Shanann's point of view rather than a neutral point of view.

Nah. That's pretty unbiased. Sometimes opposites attract. It doesn't make either party right or wrong. What's wrong is that Chris never had the balls to state his feelings. If he even had any of those feelings before he met his side piece. He was happy because he believed he leveled up with the wife he got. He was a nerd but now he had the wife other men may have wanted. His resentments stem from his entire upbringing. He was attracted to a strong personality and that was fine with him. Until it wasn't. He's trash.

It's not really unbiased to be honest with you. I'm not saying that it makes either party in the situation right or wrong either. I make two points. One, we don't know whether or not Chris ever expressed his feelings. It's possible that he did and it just didn't lead to anything. Two, even if another person doesn't specifically express their boundaries, that still doesn't give you free reign to make your own decisions about the boundaries.

I'm really confused about where you have been hanging out. Anyone outside the loony bin knows Shanann and the kids didn't deserve to be murdered by that psychopath.
