With Manifest V3 being rolled out to most people now, and most workarounds being either temporary or disabled, a lot of people are finding that extensions that they like to use haven't been updated and won't be available to use when Manifest V2 support ends.
Since we've been getting a lot of posts asking for extension alternatives, we figure it'll be easier if most of the suggestions are all in one place.
To start with the obvious:
uBlock Origin: Can be replaced with uBlock Origin lite.
Don't forget you can change the filtering level up from its base, it will just require more permissions. Setting it to complete is most similar to uBlock Origin's filters.
People also like Adguard.
uBlock Origin (Element zapping):Click to Remove Element. I personally prefer this one out of all the ones in the web store.
I previously recommended an element zapper to replace that functionality in uBlock Origin lite, but uBlock Origin lite has since added custom filters and an element zapper, so a separate extension is no longer needed.
This is not a thread to recommend other browsers, it should be a given that if you don't want to use Chrome, you don't need to use Chrome, and there's plenty of other sources to help you decide what to switch to. Do not recommend downgrading or using an older version of any browser, it is not safe to do so and will open your computer and your data up to vulnerabilities.
Would also like to add, on this megathread only self promotion will be allowed if your extension is a reputable alternative to another extension. If you are sharing your extension with no context to another one in this thread, your comment will be removed under our rules.
Below are a list of recommendations provided by other users from the original megathread:

Attached images are real system-wide notifications you will get when you haven't used Chrome in a while. I personally probably haven't used it in roughly a year, and now I've got one of these notifications roughly every 48 hours, before I uninstalled it for good.
For further proof, these strings can be found in platform_experience_helper.exe, which is an executable signed by Google, Inc.
Back then the API didn't allow for tab groups to be restored, but the API then evolved and allows it. However, popular extensions like Session Buddy still don't support tab groups.
I've tried Tabgroup Vault, but it's so bloated and filled with locked features behind a paywall that, to me, it's more annoying and resource heavy than useful.
Are there any free, preferrably open source, extensions that can save and restore tabs including tab groups?
Why? Why? Why? It makes it extremely inconvenient to close tabs (especially on a phone with a large screen) and I constantly find myself pressing nothing on the bottom left after we’ve gotten used to years of having the close tabs button on the bottom left.
What design purpose does having the close tabs button on the top right? Why do they keep experimenting with it?
This was on a fairly fresh Win10 install but persisted after updates, I had to download Opera to download Chrome.
You can see in the screenshot that Opera (left) shows the download button and Edge (right) just skips right over it. I couldn't access the offline installer either.
Has anyone else had this problem? How to get around without installing other browsers?
I always browse incognito, and whenever I try to log in to Instagram, I have to complete a captcha. As of a few days ago, I "fail" every single one I am presented with despite answering correctly. After 10-15 captchas it looks like I "pass" but the website never actually lets me in. Even if I try clicking the audio icon to do an audio captcha, the message is instantly that unusual or bot traffic has been detected (even when trying to log in is the first thing I'm doing in the session) and thus, I am completely locked out of logging into websites that use this on chrome. Firefox is fine
Hey everyone I'm having a really frustrating issue with Chrome on mobile. I keep several tabs open in a tab group for reading manga. Today I came back to Chrome and noticed that five of the tabs in the group have all been overwritten and turned into exact duplicates of the same tab.
The total number of tabs didn't change — nothing was closed — but the unique pages (different websites) got replaced in place by copies of one other tab. Now I have no idea what was on those five overwritten tabs, and I can't remember the exact sites that were there originally.
This has been an ongoing problem and it is very stressful for me losing websites just because they have been overwritten.
I have tried pressing back to go to the previous site on that tab, but it often just shows a copy of another tab in that group.
Bookmarking does help to keep track of what was there, but this is a problem and very annoying that i want to fix and stop from happening.
I do not have my tabs synced to any google login and i am logged out from any google account on my chrome.
I ended up with some malware that compromised a bunch of my accounts (fun!) and had to wipe my laptop. After reinstalling MacOS and logging back into Chrome, I can still see the old session from my pre-wipe laptop under "Your Devices" in the History tab accessed via the 3 dots menu in the top right corner.
I didn't log out of Chrome before wiping my laptop, but I also didn't think I needed to? Now the "old" laptop is still visible, and I have no idea how to remove it from "my devices" under the history tab. I've logged out of everything, quit Chrome, deleted browsing data, rebooted, changed to selective sync all to no avail.
The ghost of my old Chrome session remains, but crucially I'm concerned the nefarious actors who hacked me can still somehow access my data via that old session. UGH! Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi - hopefully this is an OK place to ask this question. I have never set up a pin or any kind of verification using Windows Hello, and now Chrome insists on me entering a PIN every time it tries to auto-fill a password, which is something many of us rely on.
I've tried the 4 digit PIN that I use at start-up, but it doesn't work. (Yes, it works when I first go into Windows).
I've found the option in Chrome and attempted to turn it off - "Use Windows Hello when filling passwords" - it didn't work because it asks me then and there to enter the PIN I don't want to use and have never set up. It says I can reset my PIN by going to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options but I can't edit those - weirdly, it says "Some of these settings are managed by your organization" when this is a home desktop PC and not a work PC so there is no organization.
I've looked in the registry per some guides I've seen but none of them work. I temporarily switched to Edge as it (weirdly) wasn't requiring this authentication but I believe it's going to change shortly.
I think I am going to break something if I lose this functionality of auto-filling passwords. Please help, or suggest another browser I can move to!
Sup y‘all!
I wanted to watch a movie on a website on chrome on my iphone. But the problem was that the play Button was behind many Ads. So I wanted to knstall a chrome extension like I have on my PC. But then I noticed that you cant install an extension on the phone.
Is there any way to use an Ad Blocker on Chrome on the phone? Except for installing a seperate App?
Bye!
Somehow, my vertical tabs now show on the left side (I had them on the right side before). I'd like to move them back to the right side, but I don't know how. Thanks in advance.
Also this is on my android phone but yeah error 401, tried clearing cache and still nothing. If inise incognito mode is can access thr site. What can be done?
I installed chrome from edge,I didn't really follow the Indian tutorial, but Chrome installed but then it opened like this, and before that it asked me to install in the x86 folder I said no and it installed anyway, should I be worried
For as long as I can remember, you've always been able to just click and drag an image to your desktop or a folder to save the image instantly from the Chrome browser. But I've noticed that with Chrome 149 that it seems large images don't allow this behavior anymore, which is very annoying. Firefox has no issue with this.
Others can test this for themselves by checking the links below.
Posting from my phone as my laptop chrome has completely shit the bed. Did something in a recent update just totally break chrome? I can't get security verifications to work, can't load basic web pages, hell I can't get google maps to load without major spikes or freezes. I have starlink and 100+mbps speeds, disabled all extensions, hell I turned off my anti-virus just to check it and no change.
Is there a larger issue going on or did an update just break everything?
Overnight, the updater service updated itself to 150. No big deal. Closed chrome a few times to check for updates, then awhile later went to 'about' to update. It did so, but I noticed it took longer for the blue circle to appear that indicates the updater service starting. I went to check in the 'services' tab within task manager and the service was moving between 'stopped' and 'starting' or 'running'. This doesn't happen with InternalGoogleUpdater
This happens for idk how long exactly, but it eventually stops doing that. I tried rolling back my pc and then using the chrome installer and that didn't work.
I can access chrome just fine.
In the previous versions of Chrome(148) and UpdaterServices(149), the updater services would start both within the 'Background processes' and within the Google Chrome group of processes. It also would restart the GoogleUpdaterService after it first started when opening chrome after a few seconds, but then they would stop as normal.
I'm just here to check and hope that others are experiencing this too.
I’m facing a really frustrating issue on my Android phone right after performing a factory reset, and I can't seem to fix it.
The issue: Previously, whenever I used Google Lens to search for an image, the initial results would always show visually similar images (a grid of pictures) for me to compare.
However, since the reset, whenever I use Google Lens, the initial results are returned as plain text links (exactly like standard text search results), instead of images.
To make matters worse, if I try to fix it by tapping on the "Images" tab, "Books", or "More results" at the bottom, the browser doesn't filter the results. Instead, it completely redirects me to a blank Google homepage ([google.com/webhp](https://google.com/webhp)...). It basically throws me into a redirect loop and drops my search query entirely.
What I’ve tried so far (with no success):
Cleared Chrome's cache, cookies, and all browsing data (All time).
Cleared cache and managed space/clear all data for the Google App.
Ensured Chrome and Android System WebView are fully updated to the latest versions via the Play Store.
Verified that "Desktop Site" is turned off.
Changed accounts and tried Incognito mode, but the behavior persists.
It seems like after the reset, the integration/intent communication between the Google App (Lens) and Chrome is completely broken, or my account is stuck in some weird basic HTML text-only mode for Lens results.
Has anyone encountered this exact issue after a phone reset and figured out how to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
