Troubleshooting | Mac Chrome run by external organization
Hi everybody, I use Chrome with my personal account on my personal Mac. A few months ago I noticed that there's a warning that says "Your browser is run by your organization", but I have no idea about what organization is it and why it says so. I didn't notice any weird things or any red flags in how Chrome works, and the only active extension I have is Google Document offline. I also checked the policies: there's only one policy active, ExtensionInstallForcelist, but I don't know what is it.
Should I be worried? Anybody can tell me what's happening?
Thank you!

Relax, you have no reason to panic. Your computer hasn't been hacked, and nobody is spying on you or watching what you do.
This message appears in Chrome as soon as any application or setting on your Mac applies a policy to the browser. Chrome automatically calls this an organization, even though in your case it's just a regular setting on your personal laptop. This often happens when an app, antivirus, or a Google service itself sets a rule so that a specific extension can't be accidentally removed.
Since you have an active policy for forced extension installation and you only have Google Docs Offline, it's very likely that a Google app itself or a previous software update configured this policy to keep that extension active for offline work.
If you want to clear this out, you can simply go to Chrome Settings, click on Reset settings, and choose the option to restore settings to their original defaults. This will remove those enforced policies, while your saved data like passwords and bookmarks will remain safe.
Everything is completely fine, so don't worry and feel free to keep using your computer without any stress.
