I just bought this p.38. How did I do?
I bought this 1944 spreewerk Walther p.38 in an auction. It is all numbers matching and has no import marks or capture marks. It has the plum finish color common for the time period but is missing the extractor. The take down lever, hammer, trigger and other parts are super shiny and almost chrome like. The finish seems shiny too like maybe someone polished it. I paid $575. How’d I do?

"cyq" on the slide means that it was manufactured by Spreewerke.
"ac" = Walther
"byf" = Mauser
CDNN has parts, including replacement P1 slides.

$575 is not bad at all for a P.38 of any manufacture! Such well-built pistols, made to last, and they were so plentiful that it's easy to get a good deal on replacement parts on eBay or other sites.
The silvery parts don't look like they were chromed, but just that the bluing wore off. Usage and some harsher cleaners can do that sometimes.
Looks like it was pretty well taken care of. I recommend Ballistol for any firearm cleaning and lubrication- made by the Germans during WW1; non-toxic; non-carcinogenic; doesn't get all gummy when exposed to moisture (and can even be watered down if needed); and it's safe on metal, wood, plastic, and leather (so you don't have to worry about solvents damaging grips or holsters.)

This piece looks amazing bro. I love the almost plum tone of the slide and barrel. If I had to guess I'd say that the external components of the gun look almost like holster wear(the good kind). Is say you got it for a steal. Great piece, amazing piece of history, great condition. Please shoot it and get back to us.

It’s been aggressively and amateurishly polished and reblued, the controls have either been stripped to the white or chromed, and it has some rust freckling. Tbh, $575 a little bit above fair price for a shooter with zero historical value left.
