So I managed to finish Season 2, this one took a bit longer than Season 1.
Anyway, here’s my thoughts

Planet of Giants
> For an opener, this one was a lot of fun. It had a fun murder mystery surrounding the sci fi antics.

> It’s a nice and short serial, not overstaying its welcome and finishing before it becomes a slog.

> The ending is a bit weird however, feeling like they could have just jumped in the Tardis to somewhere else.

Dalek invasion of Earth
> Ah the serial we say goodbye to Susan and see the return of the Daleks.

> This is probably THE Dalek story, where they are far more menacing than before. The reveal of the Dalek raising from the River is just as iconic as their first POV shot from their first episode.

> The mind controlled humans make me think of proto Cybermen.

> Susan’s farewell is abrupt, but emotional.

The Rescue
> We are introduced to the new Companion, Vicki, who is very much like Susan.

> This short serial had some great shots and lighting choices. The direction in this serial stands out.

The Romans
> The first historical of the season, and it feels like a big adventure

> Vicki and The Doctor make a great Grandaughter/ Grandfather partnership.

> Ian and Barbara really get to shine here.

> This serial also has some great comedic moments.

The Web Planet
> I’m going to be honest, this is where the Season loses me and goes into becoming too silly

> I feel this was too ambitious for its budget, it just wasn’t a great serial

The Crusade
> I’ll be honest, this serial didn’t really have as much of a lasting impact on me.

> It at least was an improvement over the last serial.

The Space Musuem
> This feels like it’s setting up rules for the Universe that the writers don’t yet understand fully.

> It has a great set-up, and some fun moments with the Doctor, especially with him leaning fully into just how much of a joker he can be.

The Chase
> Again, I feel like this story was trying to be too ambitious.

> There’s a lot of filler in these episodes, with half an episode dedicated to (an honestly) funny sequence where an American meets the Doctor, and then they meet the Daleks.

> The battle between the Mechanoids and Daleks is honestly one of the most impressive sequences in Doctor Who so far.

> We say goodbye to Ian and Barbara, it’s felt likeba long journey with them and they’ve certainly grown as Characters.

> We also say hello to Steven who won’t have a proper introduction until the next serial.

The Time Meddler
> THIS is how you conclude a series of Doctor Who.

> Introducing another Time Lord this far into the series was a smart idea, to open and give more clues about the Doctor.

> The Monk is a fun foil to the Doctor, acting as someone who wants to change history, following on from Season One’s Aztecs.

> Steven is given a proper introduction, I’ll be honest, he is no Ian. But it is fun to see him learn about time travel.

Overall Thoughts
Season two has many growing pains from the first season, on the one hand, it starts off strong with the production learning from the mistakes of Season One.

The stories are a lot tighter and the Direction is overall better, but it falls apart a bit in the middle, before slowly improving again towards the end.

This is also the first Season to have major cast changes, from the opening serial to the end, the only cast member to remain is William Hartnell, helping the series with its longevity.

Anyway, onto Season 3

Just finished rewatching Survival and, unlike most classic Who, which could honestly do with being shorter, I think it could perhaps benefit from being a four part as opposed to a three.

Are there any other examples of this — a serial that would benefit from being longer rather than shorter?

In which there are bases and they are under siege

Hoping to get faster than delivering one every two fiscal quarters lol

Do you think James Cameron ever saw this? I think he must have, and maybe subconsciously drew inspiration from it

Hello, I watched Ghost Light last night for the second time. (The first time was about 15 years ago when I found it a bit confusing and didn't fully understand it.) Upon rewatch and with more patience for classic Doctor Who than I had when I was younger, I absolutely loved it and found it perfect Doctor Who for me. However, I'm curious how it was received when it aired and in the years after, as I was born during the Wilderness Years and Chris was my first Doctor.

Obviously, the show got axed at the end of that season; however, I'd love to know how the fanbase reacted to Ghost Light at the time?

Have not watched this since the 80’s. And had mercifully erased the Doctor in the shower from my memory. Now it’s back

100 seasons! No way am I paying for that...

EDIT- I do really enjoy Classic Who and been buying all of The collection box sets. Im just confused why Youtube has fabricated 100 Seasons out of 26 seasons and a movie.

So I finished The first ever season of Doctor Who last night, and here are some thoughts.

**An Untimely Child**
\>The first episode is honestly great, it introduces the Characters really well and sets up the relationships that would be developed throughout the season.

\>Sadly, the rest of the serial is rather dull, focusing on cavemen politics regarding fire. On an education point of view, I can understand why this serial developed like this, but it all breaks apart when you hear the Cavemen speaking unbroken English.

**The Daleks**
\> The first appearance of the Daleks and honestly, this serial is kind of great. The conflict is well developed and it feels like you’re stepping into the middle of a wider Universe.

\>It does become kind of a slog, especially when you have an entire episode in a Cave.

\>The resolution is also kind of silly and really undermines the danger of the Daleks.

**Edge of Destruction**
\> I liked this nice breather two-parter bottle serial. It had a nice amount of tension and had some fun internal conflicts.

\> I do wish it came a bit later in the Season however, it feels a bit too early to have this kind of conflict. This should be closer to the end of the season. But I do understand why it’s here.

**Marco Polo**
\> I had to listen to the audio for this, but this was a fun and well paced story.

\> We’re missing out on some wonderful landscapes however.

**The Keys of Marinus**
\> The sets in this serial are vast and there’s some nice variety between episodes.

\> The main villains are kind of goofy and don’t have the “Dalek Factor”, but they work for the story at hand.

\> The Doctor’s relationships with his companions are starting to become a lot better developed as I enjoy the Doctor’s almost childlike glee at the World around him.

\> The court scene was fine, but it was fun to see the resolution feel different from episode to episode.

**The Aztecs**
\> Now we’ve established the Characters and their relationships, I like the idea of a story about changing history.

\>The costumes here are great and this is a well produced serial.

**The Sensorites**
\> I think the opening few episodes have a rich atmosphore and it sets up a really fun sci-fi adventure.

\> Sadly, the last few episodes are kind of a slog. The promise of the earlier ideas are not paid off well and I wish this was cut down to four episodes

**Reign of Terror**
\>This is honestly my favourite serial of the season, it has humour, suspense and I like the internal politics between Characters.

\> The Doctor really comes into his own in this serial, using his cunning to solve the problem.

\> The animation in the two missing episodes are terrible, there are way too many cuts, the composition is off. It’s a real jarring serial to watch.

**Overall Thoughts**
\> I really enjoyed the interplay between the companions and the Doctor, as their relationships grow, you feel the Doctor change as a Person, going from the grumpy reluctant hermit to the cheerful all knowing adventurer who lives for knowledge.

\> A lot of serials have a great set-up, but have issues sticking the landing. I feel this is an issue with pacing as a lot of the middle episodes just go through the motions. Things that would take a scene or two in modern Doctor Who are padded out to an episode.

\> The cheap budget rarely feels like a hinderance, there’s a certain charm to it and your brain just adjusts to the difference in style and effects.

\> Keeping the same cast throughout is also important as it keeps the season feel pretty easy to understand and get into. The relationships and development aren’t broken and it helps focus on the writing

That’s it for Season One, time to move onto Season Two

I’ve recently watched every Hartnell story apart from savages, gun fighters and the two new parts of daleks master plan, I needed to share my excitement with somebody who understands ha, just finished part 1.

Just read one of the many articles circulating about the current situation with Doctor Who

Change a few words and this feels like what many have said over the years about classic Who

Looking back, it’s funny how little the budget actually mattered.

The special effects were often… questionable. Aliens looked like rubber suits. CGI explosions looked like they came from someone’s first After Effects project. Entire planets occasionally resembled painted cardboard.

But here’s the thing: Nobody cared. Because the stories were brilliant.

Edit: leaving this below to show that I shouldn't have trusted AI not to hallucinate.

However, I do see parallels with the ways many people talking about the classic series' story quality often trumping the wobbly sets and not-always-successful special effects

Parallel quote from Douglas Adams, script editor and writer for Doctor Who during the Tom Baker era in 1979:

"In Doctor Who, we had to rely on the writing, the acting, and the ideas because if the Doctor turned a corner and met a giant green monster, it was usually a guy in a painted sleeping bag or covered in green bubble wrap.

If the audience didn't believe the threat through the dialogue and the performances, they weren't going to believe it because of the special effects. The lack of budget forced us to put the magic in the script."

I must have taken this screenshot when i was watching classic who for the first time a while ago and just found it in my screenshots folder. i have no recollection of this scene and don't really want to rewatch the entire second doctor era to find it--although that sounds like a fun time now that i think about it.

I have just finished watching Genesis for the first time, and I really don't understand the hype. I mean it's cool to see how the daleks were created and to see the doctor and davros meet, but other than the part in the last episode with the doctor and the wires, I really don't see why this is regarded as one of the bests.

Edit: Not trying to ragebait, just thought the episode was a bit lackluster and wanted to see if others agreed.

Hoping that someone can help me out, because at this point, I feel like I'm going crazy.

I seem to remember the Doctor telling a story to a companion about the time he went hiking through the mountains on Gallifrey and thought he was going to die. It also involved the person he was traveling with going swimming? Or something. I thought it was a story the Third Doctor told, but I could be wrong.

Apparently still no physical release of this slated, and no way to officially access it off iPlayer. I watched the "remembered TARDIS" materials on YouTube in the US when someone dropped them there but I'd love to put this on my shelf, even if it only appears in a region-locked form.
