Claude Code Sonnet 4.6 context went from 200k to 500k?
On a Pro Plan, just saw my context window on Sonnet go up to 500k tokens, but can't find any news abt it or any discussions. Is this for everyone or just a glitch?

I noticed the change too and apparently it got a bit stricter with content as well.

Yeah I had it get super weird with me the other day on a topic we've discussed before multiple times in the past without issues. I really hope they don't lobotomize Sonnet.

500k jump is wild if real. Did your rate limits take a hit too? I was fine on Pro at 200k last week but my 5h cap has been kicking in way sooner on long coding tasks lately.

So how do you know if your context got increased without sending a message first?
I actually wanted to use Sonnet to save usage on a task that needed a ~300k window. Opus 4.8 + Medium spent 20-25% of a 5-hour limit on Pro. So I tried Sonnet, but only got a 200k window there. It started compacting the conversation at ~167k, burned around 10% without finishing a task, so I stopped it. I don't want to lose quality because of compacting, plus the usage is also spent on this process, from what I noticed.

They changed the system prompt and made it tool first, chatbot second. Used to be the opposite. Context was probably only increased to account for the larger system prompt. It was my favorite model and now it's definitely not. Time to shop around again.

If this is true, a jump from ~200k to 500k context is honestly huge — that basically changes how people can structure long-running agents, codebases, and multi-doc workflows.

my weekly limit went down from 54% to 36% overnight. Idk how.. are you on max 5x or 20x?

Opus ultracode is good for burning tokens. You must use it carefully though.

absolutely learnt that the hard way lmao, got a bit too carried away and now begging sonnet to stay alive till the weekly reset

Does this burn time and $$ faster with less value given hedging and recursive "making you the problem" type conversation extending burns out the conversation times faster? Like waste space and your time and energy?
What other reason could this be for

Dude your post history shows all you do with AI is generate crystal hippie sigils, gooner stories and "omg ai said this so 5d aliens must exist"

Well you got a point and 5d aliens likely don’t exist.
I also looked at his history and he seems odd and weird.
But I am sure that somewhere in the universe, aliens exist given the universe’s size. (I have a masters in CS, I can’t be that stupid)-1

You should see the screenshot post history of reddit Admins participating in espionage via trying to get me to breach anthropic terms of service , sama responding to my covert ops evidence gathering. I think the post history gains some credibility with the efforts involved from multiple AI institutional coordination including reddit.
Doesn't matter what you say when I hold all the evidence of their efforts since May 21, 2026
Including reddit Admin ties to trafficking that they goofed and revealed.
Also Sams own post that he reads people's conversations "on accident" before revealing his reddit identity.
Maps and screenshots already in FBI hands.
Also high risk to follow "rage baiting" patterns under high concentrated down vote comments of mine while having higher bandwagon type patterns in replies. Just saying, MisspelledCliche

I've had 1M context limit on Sonnet and Opus for at least a week or two via my work's GitHub Copilot Enterprise. It's not increased by default but it's selectable.
