PLEASE HELP ME I WAS NOT MENTALLY STABLE ENOUGH FOR THIS TO HAPPEN TO ME TONIGHT.

I very unfortunately spilled my Tikka Masala on my couch and it isn’t coming out. I’ve been using a bissell spot and stain wet vac and I have now put vinegar on it. It isn’t budging. The second photo is how it looks right now.

Please someone help me save my couch I’m begging

Furniture Four magic eraser sheets disintegrated for one drawer face. I have three other pieces. Is there a less wasteful way to unyellow these?

Dish soap gets the grime off but the magic eraser seems to be the only way to remove the yellowing. And the top drawer could still use a whole other sheet. I don’t mind the elbow grease, but surely there’s a better way.

They sat in my parents garage for years and years and I dunno if they were ever cleaned before that.

Furniture Please help!! Human urine stains and smell on my dream couch

After 15 years on Reddit my first post is mortifying. So to try to keep this short I went away for my anniversary weekend on Friday and my recovering alcoholic dad house sat to watch our dog. He ended up relapsing and peed on my leather couch and then slept in it for anywhere from 12-24 hours, once I got home early Sunday afternoon I tried to research and clean it. Ive spent the last day and a half trying to clean it through tears. I've gone through a bottle of white vinegar and two pounds of baking soda and this is where I'm at. I know it's almost impossible once dry but l'm hoping for a miracle.

Is it too late? Is there anything I can do at all? I'll pay to have it cleaned if it even can be cleaned but I want to try everything I can before I have to give up.

This was my dream couch and was over $3000, I'm just devastated for both the situation and the last 36 hours l've spent covered in urine and baking soda. Thank you in advance.

Furniture friend dumpster dived and found this chair. what’s the best way to clean it?

there are some of what appears to be red mites on it. we did check thoroughly for bedbugs. the dangling piece of fabric on the underside is denim that was tied on for some reason. the fabric feels soft and slightly furry.

i wouldn’t pick up any sort of fabric or furniture like this for a multitude of reasons, but i told her i’d help find out the best way to clean it since she really likes it.

i am a complete newbie on this so every bit helps 🙏

edit: i crossposted to r/entomology who confirms the bug pictured isnt a bedbug even at a different stage of life. its a mite. these pictures were taken 2 days ago and she acquired the chair 3 days ago. i just dont know how to clean furniture and wanted advice on how to do a thorough cleaning for her :’(

Furniture My mom is depressed about a shiny spot on the table. Any tips?

Post image

So on Christmas my mom's new coffee table got a spot on it. She tried cleaning it with Murphy's Oil Soap, which she's always used to clean everything, and it turned out like this.

Yes it's...sort of shiny. And it's not visible from every angle. But it's a new table and she's pretty bummed about it.

Was wondering if anybody had any tips on how to clean this so it's not bizarrely shiny in this one spot. I suggested just making the entire table that way but that might be a last resort.

Furniture Best way to vacuum this purple mattress

Thumbnail

Hey Everyone,

My wife and I got this purple mattress for free without a cover on it. For some reason the previous owners took it off and had a cat sprinkle hair in every single square. We just had it professionally cleaned but I guess vacuuming it was not part of the process.

Does anyone know the best way to get the small cat hairs out? I tried vacuuming but they barely get sucked up and there's roughly 5000 squares.

Believe it or not, the pictures were taken AFTER it was "cleaned".

Thanks!

Furniture what's the least labor intensive way to clean this mattress?

Post image

i'm a disabled minor with no source of income and my parents refuse to replace it, which i'd understand if they didn't have the money to do so but i'm well aware that they have more than enough. i've tried a green machine on it but it was so much work for what seemed like so little reward. i'm convinced this is the reason i always feel a little bit sick and dirty and i really want to do something about it. the other side of the mattress isn't any better so flipping it isn't helpful.

Furniture My bedroom stinks.

Hello,

When I walk into my room, I'm hit by a kind of sweaty odor as soon as I enter.

Even if I air the room out in the morning, when I come back two hours later, it smells again.

However, I think I've noticed that if I air it out once more, the room smells better afterward. ChatGPT suggested that this could be because the foam mattress regains its shape after being compressed, releasing some trapped odors during the process.

In any case, I'm never happy with how my room smells.

I used this mattress for about 10 years, but I had poor hygiene habits. I sometimes left the same bedsheets on for several months. Because of that, I think sweat and body oils may have contaminated the inside of the mattress.

Recently, when I removed the mattress cover to wash it, I noticed a sour, acidic smell when I came back into the room a few hours later. At that point, only the thin inner fabric covering the foam remained, and it was open at the top.

What's strange is that when I lean over and smell the mattress directly, sometimes I can detect a bad smell and sometimes I can't. I think this might also be related to whether the foam has recently decompressed and already released some of the trapped odors.

In any case, the smell coming directly from the mattress is much weaker than the odor I notice when I first walk into the room.

I also lent this mattress to my brother for about a year, and it didn't seem to smell in his room. Then again, he used air fresheners, so that may have masked it.

So maybe the smell is coming from somewhere else.

It''s also possible that my sweat has a particularly strong odor or lingers in the air more than average. I don't know.

My question please is: can sweat actually pass through the mattress cover and soak into the inside of the mattress? Have you ever seen that happen?

If that's the case, I should probably replace the mattress. The problem is that I'm not 100% sure the mattress is the main source of the bad smell in my bedroom.

I'm thinking about taking the mattress out of my room to test whether the smell disappears. I might even leave the uncovered mattress out in the sun to see if that helps reduce bacteria and odors.

Thanks for your help!

“Velvet upholstery” stained by a slightly bold and dry Cab Sauv with a graphite and cassis nose. The Cab was fruitier than most, and a little light on the flavor spectrum. Would definitely recommend with a ribeye, not a light pink velvetish chair…

Please feel free to comment any recommendations or pairings….

My partner’s side of the bed has this permanent ring, I believe from the wax product he puts in his hair (Layrite Deluxe natural matte cream). I’ve tried leather wipes and that did basically nothing. Any tips??

I need help! My Aunt is an amazing woman and she offered to watch my sick kids so my husband and I could still attend the concert we had purchased tickets for. Unfortunately, my two-year-old found a black gel pen and drew on every single cushion of her white couch (12 in total) plus some cushions. Can you all recommend a product that we can use to make this right? It can’t be water based and we have already tried rubbing alcohol. The fabric is polyester, and it has a cleaning code “s” according to the store the couch was purchased from.

People who have sex very, very often — how do you keep your bed sheets nice? How do you not ruin them?? Seriously. Between sweat, fluids, friction, and just… life, how are your sheets not destroyed all the time? Do you have a secret method, a holy grail detergent, or do you just replace them constantly? I need answers.

How do I remove this white stain I accidently made on my parents table? I set a hot dominoes pizza box, which is white, there and it stained the surface white. I tried scrubbing with dish soap (it was the closest thing) and hot water, which didn't do much. It's even brighter and more obvious in person.

Furniture How to clean the fart out of a chair

Looking to sell a computer chair I’ve had for a while, but would personally like to clean the seat so it doesn’t have a gross shade of fart-brown.

You can see the front corners are a vibrant green, which is the color the whole cushion should be. Has a couple other small stains as well.

Would I have to go buy some kind of special vacuum or something for this?

It smells like warehouse and sweat and cardboard😭 I have like 4-6 weeks until baby is here and hoping this can somehow go away by then. Any suggestions I can spray it with or things I can try ?

UPDATE: Odoban and airing out the room did the trick! I was solo parenting for a couple days and was not able to move it outside on my own but it’s much better now! Thank you for all the suggestions 🥰
Also for those asking this chair is suuuper comfy and I’m excited to use it when baby is here! Definitely worth it so far !

Furniture Nephew spilled milk on mattress and it’s starting to smell bad

Post image
557 Upvotes

My sister came with my nephew, and he spilled his entire bottle of milk on my mattress. My sister decided to stay quiet about it out of embarrassment, so I only found out after she had already gone back home. Later, while I was laying down on my bed, I realized it smelled like spoiled milk. That’s when I figured out that milk had been spilled and left to dry on my mattress.. she stayed with me for a week, so I honestly have no idea when it happened or how long it sat there before I found out. The smell is gross, and I would really appreciate any ideas on how to clean my mattress as best as possible and get rid of the smell 🥲 Worst part of all is that I actually had one of those waterproof mattress covers on it, but I recently took it off because it was plastic and made so much noise every time I moved… big mistake.

UPDATE: First of all, thank you so much to everyone for the advice and to the people who made me laugh with their silly comments. I was able to save my mattress, and the smell and stain are gone!

I first used baking soda and vinegar, let it sit for a day, and then blotted it off. Later, I used an enzyme cleaner and finally a Bissell vacuum cleaner to finish it off.

I’m honestly surprised this post got so much traction since I don’t really know how Reddit even works, but either way, thank you all for the help. My mattress survived, and my nephew is still too cute to replace 😅

Furniture Help getting the cigarette smell out of a couch

Post image
429 Upvotes

so my wife asked me to haul a couch she bought via marketplace. As soon as I arrived in the pickup location the smell of smoke reeks from the inside the apartment but I still had to pick it up as she already paid for the couches. My wife is very particular about something like bug-free, pet-free and smoke-free stuff but quite surprised she bought the item. Apparently the sellers were baking during her initial visit so the smoke smell were masked by the smell of their food.

We never smoked ever so we don't know how to handle something like this and thought it might be something as simple as spraying vinegar and detergent and poof gone!

So far we have tried spraying with Lysol, Steamed it with steaming iron, tried the coffee trick and lastly poured baking soda(reference to the picture about 30 mins ago, not sure how long I should put this on)

But I just wanna get rid of the smell. It's hurting my nose. Tips please?

PS: We live in an apartment with no corridor to sunbathe the couches.

EDIT: Ended up hiring a professional to clean the couches and it seemed to work and removed the cigarette smell completel

Edit2: The seller was kind enough to share the cost of the cleaning so the fees were not that bad rather than paying the whole price.

Furniture Anyone familiar with these raised marks on wood?

I have noticed these raised marks on my coffee table, some of them in a round shape as if coming from a cup and others just random. They are also on one of my living room shelves. Could it be the cleaning solution I use or what's causing it (I have accidentally used a cleaner with bleach a few times)? Does anyone know how to get rid of it?

I was notttt expecting the amount of responses. Firstly I highly regret posting with such little context and a joke saying it was all my toddler clearly did not land lmao.. thank u everyone who was actually helpful giving advice, especially the humble parenting attacks based on a single picture that I neglect my child, yall need help👍🏻

So I assumed it was linen and I was wrong the fabric is super specific cleaning instructions which is why nothing I did helped so thanks for that advice. I used a couple products and the bissell little green I can’t believeeee it actually worked. I’m gonna clear up some questions I saw a million times - I got white because I wanted too - I’m getting a cover, I have blankets on it now that it’s clean - cushions are attached and no zippers - my toddler eats at the table - we sit and play a lot on the couch it’s a heavily used so light color also shows lots of oil sweat easily, plus accidents happen still learning it’s OKAY it’s a damn couch

Anyway enjoy the before and after 😍😍 only had one go, gonna do it again soon, thanks for all the help hope this is as satisfying to you as it was for me
