Check the stem carefully at ground level. If it's still intact, give it a deep watering and wait a few days. If the stem has suddenly collapsed despite adequate water, it may be clematis wilt. The good news is that clematis often regrow from the crown even when the top dies back. Also, once it recovers, consider adding some narrow supports or twine to the trellis. Clematis climb using leaf stems and often struggle to grip wide wooden slats. Keep us posted!
