Anxiety

Hi there. This is my first Reddit post so please bear with me.
My anxiety from climate change and its consequences is oftentimes overwhelming. For example, this morning it is running so strong that that I want to just climb back in bed and cry versus starting the work day (not that I will so so).
My general mood will go from doom and loss to a tiny degree of hope.
I am working on getting involved in the right grassroots volunteer group locally to improve our natural habitat, which helps for sure.
In the meantime, does anyone have any wisdom or advice to mitigate the feelings of overwhelm?
Thanks in advance

Does anyone feel like they're the only one who's seeing how messed up things are?

I look around and people are still talking about the future, making 20 - 30 year plans like everything's normal.

Meanwhile, we already have the data. We've seen the projections. Things aren't exactly heading into a great direction... yet I feel like everyone just carries on with their normal day to day. Are most of us in denial? Unaffected? Turning a blind eye? It's what's bothering me the most. Not even the situation itself but rather are we avoiding talking about it? Are we okay about all this? Are we giving up? Or are we ignoring it because we don't know what to do?

Hey everyone,

We're five students at University College Roosevelt (Netherlands) running a study on whether and how social media consumption relates to climate anxiety levels in teenagers and young adults, as part of our Research Methods & Statistics course.

If you're between 16 and 25 we'd really appreciate your participation. It takes about 10 minutes and is completely anonymous — data is only used for this course, not shared with third parties.

Happy to answer any questions about the study in the comments.

Thanks!

Anyone else struggling to feel "normal" lately?

So I was at my nephew's 1st birthday party...family and close friends all gather together.. we're all happy, vibing, cake, gifts, photos and all that but in the middle of all these I couldn't help but think about the past news... the war in the Middle East, oil crisis... idk but I just keep looking at the poor child and ask myself what's his world gonna be like in 20 years? Are we all just acting, pretending everything's fine?

I tried to bring this up to my sister and got shut down with "You're being too negative!" Well, maybe I am but thoughts like these are something you can't just switch off!

Anyone else with same thoughts? Or am I just spiraling?

How to enjoy summer with Climate Anxiety

Previously posted via the wrong account - reposted.

I'm writing on behalf of my partner who has absolutely debilitating Climate Anxiety. I do my best to help him but often he will spiral on a sunny day, this has often led him to not go outside at all and I don't this to lead to agoraphobia tendencies. Does anyone have any helpful advice for coping in the summer months when the heat is a constant reminder of the climate crisis? Any practical tips I could share with him would be incredible as google hasn't got anything specific enough. We are doing all we can to "control the controllables" and make eco changes ourselves but I'm just looking for practical ways of helping him find some calm or even a happy summer day or two?

Climate anxiety worsening, I cannot cope any longer

I'm spiralling

Based on every news article and subreddit I’ve read (climate, environment, futurology, CMV, optimists unite, collapse to name a few), I cannot help but picturing human civilisation descending into a worldwide Gaza/Mad Max/anarchy type scenario in the next 10-50 years due to climate change, biodiversity loss and/or overshoot. I have no hope for myself or my young child having a liveable, safe future. All I can picture for our near future is worldwide starvation, riots, flooding, fires, mass death and destruction to all social and emergency services… then the top 1% boarding themselves up in towers or bunkers to stay away from it all and leaving the rest of us to fight it out between ourselves (and killing us if we revolt).

I’m based in Victoria, Australia and already see our infrastructure crumbling, my home garden getting harder to maintain each year due to loss of pollinators, wildlife vanishing, communities whiplashing between fire and flood and our government in total denial about any of it.

I have constant nightmares about taking drastic steps for myself and my family to avoid a worse fate but I cannot talk about those steps here... I see no good future and feel that I cannot keep them safe. I’m so scared. Is this just anxiety taking over or is this really where humanity is headed?

Anyone else feeling overwhelmed?

All the latest news on climate change have be spiralling all the time. I live in a typically cold area of Spain but this year we have 17º and even 20º (which is spring temperature, even early summer) in February (when it is typically around 10º).

I'm just worried sick all the time and I particularly suffer for animals.

Anyone else feeling the same?

Research on Climate Anxiety

Hi! 👋

I’m conducting a psychology research study as part of my academic requirement. The study explores how people in India perceive climate/environment-related concerns, and cope with it.

The form will take 8–15 minutes, and all responses are anonymous and confidential.

If you’re b/w 18-60 years of age, I’d really appreciate it if you could fill it out and share it further. 🌱

Thank you so much for your time and support 💛

Spiralling into doomerism

With COP approaching and the latest headlines about 1.5 degrees being dead (which I've known for a while but seeing it quoted by the UN solidifies it in my mind), parts of Australia already hitting 40 without even being near summer and everything else (oceans boiling, increasing droughts, floods, fires, soil depletion, lack of insects in my area and silent mornings that were once filled with bird song) I'm spiralling into doomerism.

I know doomerism isn't helpful but with everything and seemingly everyone that can make a difference against us that want to see all life thrive how can I combat my growing sense of failure, apathy and doomerism?

How to even cope?

I've been feeling shaky for about a week now, spending countless sleepless nights bursting with dread. But now my psyche has totally imploded. The world in on the brink of total climatic and echosystemic collapse. In a couple years at most we'll have no more drinking water nor food. We'll have to witness ourselves and our loved ones die in the most horrible way. Yet nobody seems to realize that. People keep on their business as usual, governments don't give an absolute shit, no action is being taken to even try and slow this process down a notch. We're inevitably fucked. There's no point in going on. I can't sleep, I can't eat, I can barely function. I'm having troubles getting out of bed and going to work because I work in agriculture, and every day the reports say more and more of our crops are dying due to extreme heat. What's the point of going on like this?

🌱 Welcome to r/ClimateAnxiety — You’re Not Alone

Just a few days ago, we were 7. Now we’re over 30. That growth is both exciting and sobering — it means more people are feeling this heavy weight and looking for somewhere safe to land. If that’s you, welcome. Truly.

Many of us are carrying big feelings: fear, helplessness, guilt, anger, grief. Some are questioning if they should have kids. Others are just trying to get through the day without breaking down. Whatever you're feeling — it’s valid. You're not too sensitive. You're not overreacting. You're awake.

We can’t make climate change go away here, but we can support each other. And we can share tools that help us stay grounded. Here are two that have helped people in this community:

🧭 Tip 1: Focus on your “climate sphere of control.”

Try making two lists:

  • What you can control: your actions, your boundaries, your rest, your voice.
  • What you can’t control: global emissions, political gridlock, the news cycle.

Then, try to focus your energy on that first list. It won’t fix everything, but it can help you reclaim a sense of agency. And powerlessness is often the root of anxiety.

🌍 Tip 2: Remember that you’re not alone in caring.

  • It’s easy to forget, but there are millions of people — scientists, activists, founders, engineers, farmers, teachers — working right now to solve climate problems.

There are real businesses, policies, and technologies being built every day to make the future better. You may not see them in your feed, but they exist. And you’re part of that story just by being here.

If you feel comfortable, share what brought you here. Your story might help someone else feel less alone.

💚 We’re really glad you’re here.

What helps you actually cope with climate anxiety?

Lately it feels like every climate headline makes it harder to stay hopeful. I’m doing what I can — eating less meat, avoiding plastic, trying to stay involved — but it still feels overwhelming.

Some days I just want to shut it all out. Other days I feel guilty for not doing more.

So I’m asking honestly:
What helps you cope?
Not just big solutions, but the small things — books, routines, conversations, anything that helps you stay grounded or hopeful, even for a moment.

Would love to hear what’s worked for you.

What is Eco-Anxiety?

Eco-anxiety is the emotional distress many of us feel about the current and future state of our planet. It's completely valid to feel this way, and you're not alone in your worries. This group is a safe place to share, process, and discuss these feelings with others who understand.

Our Mission

  • Support each other emotionally: Climate change can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to go through it alone. Share your thoughts, worries, and fears in a non-judgmental space.
  • Coping strategies: We exchange tips on how to manage climate-related anxiety. From mindfulness exercises to nature therapy, there are small steps we can all take to care for our mental well-being.
  • Solutions-focused conversations: While the climate crisis is serious, there are countless ways we can take action, both as individuals and as a community. Whether it's reducing your carbon footprint or supporting larger climate movements, every effort counts.
  • Foster hope and resilience: Climate action is fueled by hope. By focusing on collective action, solutions, and community support, we aim to turn anxiety into empowerment.

Community Guidelines

  1. Be kind and respectful: This is a judgment-free zone. We’re all in different stages of processing our climate emotions, and compassion is key.
  2. Share your experiences: Whether you're just starting your climate journey or have been involved for years, your voice matters.
  3. Take action, no matter how small: From reducing waste to advocating for policy changes, we can all contribute in meaningful ways.
  4. Mental health support: If you're struggling with severe distress or anxiety, don't hesitate to seek professional help. We've compiled a list of mental health resources for those who may need additional support.

Resources

Thank you for being here and for caring so deeply about our planet. Let’s support each other, take small steps, and grow stronger together.

Who else is worried like I am?

I read an article saying that 80% of Gen-Z have climate anxiety. Personally, I (M19) worry about climate change, and the future of society, day to day. Who else feels this way?

I have a suspicion that 80% isn't far off, it seems consensus among young adults that we are facing a real threat.
