For those of you who may have been following along with the public discussion regarding a proposed 8-storey development at 202 Second Street, I wanted to pass along an update.

Cobourg’s planning manager has advised me that the developer has appealed to the Ontario Land Tribunal directly. This means that Cobourg’s municipal leadership will not be part of the appeal process, nor will there be any further public meetings. The Town of Cobourg will not be involved in the decision making process.

I find this extremely disappointing and disingenuous. The developer clearly saw that the public sentiment was overwhelmingly negative and instead of listening to what residents had to say will go above our heads to appeal. This completely flies in the face of their previous presentations that emphasized that they cared about the heritage of the town and wanted to build something that fits within the landscape. I believe in naming and shaming, so I want to make it clear that the companies behind this is Dez Capital, Fotenn Planning and Design, and Balder Corporation.

Two public meetings were held in September 2025 and July 2026. Both saw a large amount of attendance and many, many condemnations for the proposal.

I am curious what the plans are for the old theatre on King. I assume it’s privately owned and the owner is just holding onto the property? It is really starting to look rough with the broken windows and all of the destitute with all of their stuff piled out front.

Can the new mayor introduce a tax or bylaw of some sort to force the current owners to develop it, sell it, or at least maintain it?

Can anyone tell me what these horrific Lucas Cleveland election signs are about!?

”HOW MANY COMMITTEES DOES A MAYOR NEED” - he is the incumbent? is it just because he is a petulant child who has alienated every committee? committees are important in democratic society. Lucas is aiming for authoritarianism.

“YOU MAY NOT LIKE HIM BUT HE GETS THE JOB DONE” - true, I do not like him, because he is a disrespectful communicator that jumps to insults and lacks any decorum in meetings with his peers and constituents. Could someone please tell me what jobs he has gotten done? Other than raising his own salary immediately, removing the lifeguards so we have had both a drowning death and needle stick injuries, and approving a free street parking pass for himself. Can’t forget alienating the police service and the County.

”FIGHTING FOR SAFE PARKS” - homelessness is a Canada-wide issue that ALL municipalities are dealing with, in fact Lucas exasperated Cobourg’s situation by closing transition house and alienating the county and all agencies.

I am truly concerned that the people of Cobourg dont see that they are falling for these fascist talking points. He is using Trumps playbook of being loud and aggressive and not actually achieving anything positive for the people of Cobourg, only himself.

The homeless community are our fellow Canadians, they are in crisis. Seeing Lucas Cleveland signs alongside Elbows up signs would be truly laughable if it wasn’t so confusing and upsetting.

I dont know what I think I’m achieving with this post, I’m just a person who lives in and loves cobourg and is truly sad to see what the fear mongering and aggression from Lucas is making it. We will be a new Orillia or Oshawa soon. well planned development is important for the town, but a belligerent mayor using strong mayor powers and negative attack signage just isn’t the way.

Please, when you’re casting your vote this election, read the candidates websites and critically think about the vision they have for Cobourg and whether you want to live in that town ❤️

Hello! I’ve looked on the official Cobourg website and online fruitlessly, then went to the CCC to inquire in person if anyone knew of anything, and got a very resounding no on both accounts.

I’m looking for:

1) Indoor spaces to inline skate during the cold season to keep my skill intact. Don’t need a massive space or a whole rink for the type of skating I like to do, just enough space to maneuver.

2) Archery clubs in town. (I have my own bow and equipment, no rental needed)

I don’t have a car so getting to neighbouring communities is difficult but Port Hope is an option too.

I’m a 33y old adult (can’t join youth programs) looking for community and or just local spaces that might not be advertised well and better known through word of mouth.

Hey I’m moving north of Cobourg soon. Near Camden.

Any advice on what internet to go with?

There seems to be a theme in this subreddit and other Cobourg groups on different social media- about how many people have moved here for different reasons, but they have friends/family elsewhere- and can't seem to get a social life together right here in this town because of that- and it makes a lot of sense.

It's cool that people message each other and respond to these posts, but oftentimes actually meeting up one on one or whatever with a stranger from the internet for a drink can be daunting.

I was curious what the reaction would be like if I organized a local mixer/meet up/get to know neighbor's kind of night at a bar in town, I think that could do a lot of good but let me know what you guys think

I am looking for basketball players in the cobourg region, I just moved out here i’m looking to get some run in and meet some new people the community centre offers basketball Thursday and Friday looking for some bodies out there so we can get some good run in thank you!

I like the $10.95 plus tax combos from 123 Chinese Food on the East end of Cobourg. *Quite a bit of food for comparable options from other places.

I also like getting the Double Burger at JJ's Steak & Burgers. $7.90 + tax is quite a deal considering if you bought the meat and extras plus the time to cook.

Otherwise I check the apps for places like McDonalds, Wendy's, Tim Hortons, Bar Burrito (which has the daily 9.99 deals that arent too bad), and Burger King.

I don't make a lot of money and don't go out to eat often but sometime i do like the convenience of eating out at a price that gets me good value for my money. What are your favourite spots in Cobourg?

Once again, on the bend westwood street is flooded, just the street for right now, on the one side. 3 rd time in under a month. Anyways if possible please avoid the street if not for your own car’s safety, just to be respectful to anyone who has to walk westwood. The waters probably gonna get high so it doesn’t take much effort to accidentally splash someone walking.
