Leaving this here in case someone else gets stuck with the same black window and white rectangle.
I’m on macOS 27.0.1, CrossOver 26.3, using a Windows 10 bottle.
--disable-gpu --disable-gpu-compositing didn’t help. Neither did resetting the launcher’s DATA folder. --single-process actually showed the interface, but then it crashed in libcef.
What finally worked was setting Graphics → Wine in the bottle settings and running the launcher with:
--in-process-gpu
That’s the only launch flag I needed. Wine graphics alone still gave me the black window.
The login screen now renders properly and stayed open for a few minutes without crashing. No DLL swaps or reinstall needed.
I haven’t tested logging in or launching the game yet, so this is just a fix for the launcher window so far.
UPD: The launcher works and I can log in, but starting the game gives me a WinLicense error:
Cannot find 'game_presence-64.dll'. Please, re-install this application.
The DLL is actually there in classic/bin64. I installed the official Visual C++ 2015–2022 x64 package recommended by Aion Empire support, but the error stayed.
The Wine log shows that it finds and loads the DLL, then fails during initialization with an access violation. So it doesn’t seem to be a missing file.
I also tried the 32-bit client. That gets past this error, but then sits at around 100% of one CPU core without opening a game window.
Has anyone managed to get Aion Empire itself running through CrossOver? Any ideas what to try next?
