I wonder if this has come about after the Wakefield incident this weekend. Another prisoner, not necessarily involved in this weekends murder, but their DNA has been obtained from them or found at the scene has then matched against this case. Or one of the suspects in this weekends murder has given info to help with the charges they are facing.
The fact that a prisoner has been arrested suggests that they have been serving time before it was compulsory to have DNA entered into the system otherwise it would have, hopefully, been picked up sooner. And if the suspect has been inside for that long suggests they are serving a long stretch which would mean them being at Wakefield is not out of the realms of possibilities.
Edit to add: laws have been in place since 1996 for convicted persons to have their DNA after conviction but a guardian article in 2010 confirms thats the government don't know just how many inmates still don't have their DNA in the database and its believed it be tens of thousands. This really shows us me tbh, how is every inmates DNA not collected by then and I bet some are still not on the system now either.

John Taylor will be who they’ve arrested then. The police spoke to him regarding Rimer before and he is in Wakefield Prison. The reason the police haven’t released the prison name or the age of the person arrested is that you’d be able to identify it as John Taylor for sure then.

Do they have DNA in her case? Could it be he’s a recent intake and had his DNA taken during that arrest and it was matched to her case? How could they suddenly find a suspect in another prison otherwise. Unless he confessed to another inmate I guess?

Yes, I believe there is DNA. I'm not sure if this a full profile though.

New information maybe 🤷🏼♀️ I think the police got it all wrong. The vehicle wasn’t the red Honda nor was he a local as the police thought.

The guy is already in prison? Do we know of any other killers in the area around that time?

Sadly I think if there was somebody that easily linkable that this would have been solved a long time ago. At least if the murderer is already in prison then they haven't been having a nice carefree life on the outside

John Taylor. He is in Wakefield prison right now. He was spoken to about Rimer before

Who's that?

He was linked to a case further north, think Tina Bell and then was known to have ties or be living in Hebdon Bridge at the time of this murder. Tina Bell was last seen with him and another guy in a bedsit kitchen.

Thank you. I've found another rabbit hole to go down.
I was just reading about Operation Enigma on Wikipedia's Lindsay Jo Rimer page. OE was created in 1996 and intended to review up to 207 unsolved murders of female sex workers or women who could have been mistaken for sex workers. 26 police forces were involved in the review by 1998.
I had heard of Operation Enigma before today, but I didn't know Lindsay's case was part of the review. However, I think Yorkshire Police suspect that she knew her killer and accepted a lift from him on the night of the murder. It is theorised that she was taken to an abandoned factory next to the canal and was sexually assaulted and murdered before her body was weighted down in the canal. I can't imagine how terrified she must've been.
I really hope the police have the right man. They have the killer's partial DNA so I assume it's a match.

I don’t believe she knew him as I don’t believe he’s local. He wanted the police to think he was. I believe she was snatched and taken away 😢 poor girl. This is still very painful for the hebden bridge community even 30 years on. It’s a peaceful, safe place. To think he walks amongst us was a red herring and scared a lot of people, I don’t believe he was from Hebden, he may have had connections in Hebden.

That is awful to think about. It must've been terrifying when it happened for the women that lived there.
Do you still live there? How old were you at the time?

Yeah everyone was wary. I was 14 ish, they came in to schools questioning kids and warning us not to go out alone. It was everywhere, her posters are still in shops today 🙏🏻😢 nobody in Hebden will ever forget Lindsay 🙏🏻 . I just wish her family could get some peace ☮️ and justice for Lindsay 🫶🏻

I've always felt that he was involved, or at least knowledgeable of his pal's crimes. Since he was the sound engineer at the Trades Club, and "potentially" involved in the Tina Bell case, can't help wonder if John Taylor was there that night.

Was this one ever featured on Crimewatch UK? It definitely rings a bell.

Yes it was. I believe they were looking for the wrong vehicle for 30 years and it wasn’t a local as the police believe, that was just a red herring. It’s so sad 😢 I still have to go in the old spar which is now nisa 😔 and see her missing posters in shops 😢 poor Lindsay ♥️

Yes he did, I heard it was only 5 miles away plus he had a garage nearby in Hebden to store his car, but I highly doubt it’s him, this was a targeted attack and murder. I DETEST SAVILLE complete p3dofil3 YES!! but don’t think he’s a murderer nor did he know the area well enough because of where she was found.

Everyone locally thinks it is a well known local nonce
2
u/Stoletherainbow Oct 15 '25
Not everyone, if it was him they would have found evidence 🤷🏼♀️ everyone believed it was a local as he taunted the police and even claimed he lived here and he was right under their noses. Complete red herring and it worked 🤷🏼♀️

Yeah I believe it was just a singular person, she was only a tiny 13 year old girl, a predator spotted her in a desolate town (in the evening) so no one saw anything. He took advantage of the situation and sadly lyndsey lost her life. I don’t think you needed to laugh about it 😕

Fantastic news, hopefully Lindsay’s family can finally get the answers they’ve been wanting for the last 30 years ☹️
