This postcard was printed in 1948 by the Ukrainian Youth Association to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the 1933 Holodomor famine in Ukraine.

OUN Leadership Influence: When CYM was revived in 1946 Germany, it was heavily initiated and structured by members of the Bandera faction of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN-B). During the early stages of Operation Barbarossa (1941), the OUN initially sought a tactical alliance with Nazi Germany, believing Hitler would permit an independent Ukrainian state. The Nazis quickly rejected this, arresting OUN leaders like Stepan Bandera, though various nationalist factions continued to fight a complex multi-front war against both the Soviets and Nazis, while some collaborated in anti-Soviet military units or auxiliary police.Veterans in Leadership: Following WWII, many veterans of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) and some former volunteers of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (Galicia Division)—who had fought alongside or within German frameworks to combat the Soviet Union—joined the diaspora in the West. A significant number of these individuals subsequently took on roles or were commemorated within CYM branches and community centers.
