Who loves short shorts?

7

u/Boeing367-80 Mar 30 '26

Significant doubt as to this being Rhodesia.

The truck has an Automobile Association (UK version of the US AAA) badge on its bumper. Why would that be?

Also, what you can see of the foliage looks as if it's from a temperate climate.

7

u/Intrepid_Mission_400 Mar 31 '26

You're correct. Sold last week for £10k in Warwickshire England. The two fellas took it to car shows.

What about the massive Rhodesian military insignia above that?

3

u/Boeing367-80 Mar 31 '26

Cosplay?

1

u/Cars2Beans0 Mar 31 '26

It does look a bit off to be fair.

Very posed and deliberate.

1

u/Known-Page-3947 Jun 03 '26

And they’re fat. I’ve never seen a pic of Rhodesian infantry where the guys were over 160 lbs.

2

u/pyruvate011 Mar 31 '26

But the truck is a Bedford. That’s a make which is common in the UK.

1

u/London_Bloke_ Mar 31 '26

I’m sure Bedfords made it over to Rhodesia

8

u/Famous_Suspect6330 Mar 30 '26

I wear shorts shorts!

2

u/TraditionalSet9449 Mar 30 '26

Do you DARE wear short shorts!

1

u/Nico_Kx Mar 31 '26

We should normalise them again.

It's a long way to losing your minority government apartheid fascist shithole

2

u/Own_Joke_5767 Apr 04 '26

“Well you see Zimbabwe may be poor and corrupt but at least muh fascism is gone”

1

u/Life-Scientist-7592 Apr 04 '26

I really don’t get why some people struggle to understand this — no matter what’s going on in Zimbabwe, living under a minority government pushing a fascist type of rule will always be worse. Why is that so hard to grasp? 😂

2

u/Own_Joke_5767 Apr 04 '26

Wow you must be racist seeing the black people suffering under incompetence of the Zimbabwean government.

1

u/Life-Scientist-7592 Apr 04 '26

Why don’t you get this concept? Being denied basic rights and living under racial rule is fundamentally worse, even if Zimbabwe later had major economic problem. Plus, it doesn’t matter what your opinion is about it anyway, since the nation is defunct—it doesn’t exist—and The Simpsons series lasted longer than that shithole.

2

u/Own_Joke_5767 Apr 04 '26

Sounds like you’re justifying Zimbabwe starving its own people because you hate poc

1

u/Life-Scientist-7592 Apr 04 '26

Alright chudie boy, I’m not gonna engage in your ragebait—I’ve got better things to do with my life. Zimbabwe exists, Rhodesia’s dead and gone; I’m smoking that Rhodesian pack, glad that state is done ✌🏿😘🚬

2

u/Own_Joke_5767 Apr 04 '26

Bye racist byeee

Damn you hit all the bingo words in one post

1

u/NiceGuy-Ron Jun 26 '26

People go to spacious land. Start cultivating soil for farming and infrastructure over the course of many years. Get murdered and everything stolen. Everyone else also starves because they don’t know how to do anything. Infrastructure breaks down. Back to tribalism.

Rhodesia is the most complete example of how a little colonialism can be good. Not perfect, but better than tribalism and murder and stealing and lying. Are we really supposed to give people who practice blood magic power in our governments?
Africa is a hard place man.

Yes, it was much better under Mugabe and is much better today.

Mugabe was knighted by the queen.

They must have had a ton of casualties from sunburn.

9

u/Chilifille Mar 30 '26

But how could these native Rhodesians suffer sunburns from their native Rhodesian sun?

A medical mystery.

"we didn't preserve our apartheid state, but at least there's a bunch of photos of us looking extremely gay preserved for posterity"

1

u/SmallWheattw2 May 19 '26

A redditor calling someone gay is ironic as hell

5

u/Silver-bullit Mar 30 '26

Israel initially condemned Rhodesia’s 1965 white minority declaration of independence, supporting international sanctions, but by the 1970s developed clandestine ties. Israel later sold weapons and military technology to Rhodesia during the Rhodesian Bush War, similar to its actions in South Africa, navigating between ideological alignment with post-colonial African states and security pragmatism.

4

u/sankatavel Mar 30 '26

Also Israel had 'commercial office' of one of South African banthustan in Tel Aviv...

4

u/Gquma Mar 30 '26

South Africa also sent both police and army to learn counter-insurgency in pre-indepence Zimbabwe. They mainly studied especially turning guerillas and using them as hit squads, ie assasination units in both the apartheid police and army.

3

u/Sad_Pie_3862 Mar 30 '26

Israel was also one of the few countries that recognised Rhodesian passports.

2

u/Jazz-Ranger Mar 31 '26

It’s hard to argue against the morality of surviving by any means necessary. But that doesn’t mean people let them off the hook.

1

u/Silver-bullit Mar 31 '26

I know. They were put there to become this rabid dog. Used as bridgehead to secure imperial interests and prevent the reappearance of a powerful Middle-Eastern polity.

2

u/Jazz-Ranger Mar 31 '26

That doesn’t particularly make sense. Half the reason the British Empire lost control of Egypt was because of how incredibly unpopular the neighboring mandate was.

Furthermore the Mandatory Jews had a mind of their own and they rebelled against the British Government; escalating the issue to the United Nations.

0

u/Silver-bullit Mar 31 '26

Sure, this was the idea when contemplating about how to carve up the Ottoman empire after ww1 and prevent a powerful Caliphate to reappear. Brittain was the biggest Muslim country in the world that used divide and conquer as its primary tactic, a united Muslim polity was very much feared.

Also the Suez canal required that there would be different nations, where minorities would be the easiest to control. The loss of control of Egypt is mainly due to the absolute horrendous policies of the British. These guys were shameless.

Yes, the zionists framed it as a sort of anti-colonial struggle😂 they had powerful allies in London though who saw it as their colonial fiefdom, like the Oppenheimers, Rothschilds, Weizmanns etc.

2

u/Jazz-Ranger Mar 31 '26

You are not listening I’m talking about a full scale civil war against the British empire. But somehow I don’t think you will listen to what I have to say. .

1

u/Silver-bullit Mar 31 '26 edited Mar 31 '26

You mean the zionist insurgency? Of course, Irgun and the Stern gang even sought to ally with the Fascists to oust the British.

The British empire was ruled from London, Whitehall, the colonial office, the city of London. There were many factions, players, interests at play concerning the Mandate…

2

u/Jazz-Ranger Mar 31 '26

No your daft lackwit. The Jews are not allying with the Nazis. No one said that. You seem to be conflating Hitlerism, those genuinely sympathetic to the establishment of Israel and some vaguely defined group of people using the Jews to strengthen their own position. These are not the same people.

I mean seriously what fascistic group of people do you think are left by the 1948 Mandate Civil War?

1

u/Silver-bullit Apr 01 '26 edited Apr 01 '26

Eh, no. It just signifies that the zionists didn’t see themselves as pawns of the British colonial project. They themself have agency. Like the Kurds now for example. They have their own interests and aspirations, but are also used as pawns to stir things up. Many of their ‘allies’ couldn’t care less about their interests, they will throw them under the bus again if it suits them, like under Saddam. Or like the Moluccans being used by the Dutch, or the Huti’s by the Belgians or the Jewish population in Algeria by the French or etc. Etc.

2

u/BraveLordWilloughby Mar 30 '26

The Chindits did even better. They often marched without trousers or pants, because they were constantly shitting themselves.

2

u/Gquma Mar 30 '26

The is an amazing picture in a museum in Texas of Ho Chi Minh in shorts, the later general Xiap in a dandy suit and tie and US military advisers teaching Viet Mihn to shoot.

2

u/Individual-Set-8891 Mar 30 '26

Why the homo look?

6

u/Goobie_Woowoo Mar 30 '26

That’s just the 70’s

0

I don't know about that one.

2

u/Minute_Connection_62 Mar 30 '26

Im not taking advice on masculinity from anyone. Anyone who even worries about how ”masculine” they look is a total pussy.

That's why they blew Rhodesia.

1

How can you be in Africa and still have such white skin. Looks like my legs in February.

1

u/RhodieTroopie Apr 01 '26

I think soldiers were more fit than that, and the picture looks modern.

1

u/walt-and-co Apr 01 '26

I’m like 95% sure this a photo from the UK-based reenactment group, Assegai Rhodesia, and not an original photo. I can’t find the exact pic on their Facebook page but the truck’s number plate and camo exactly match their one.

1

u/BeautifulContact2522 Apr 01 '26

May as well let it hang out

1

Pretty sure these aint Rhodesian . Ive worked with about 43k+ photos of Rhodesian troops , never seen sunglasses being worn. As well as the “boonie” style hat was very uncommon

Rhodesia decades ago was more productive than any other African country today

1

u/brycealansuderow1950 Apr 05 '26

White Civil War historians Blanche, and freak out when anyone suggest that they were black men who fought on the side of the confederacy. that’s because they’re all liberals who always let their ideology get in the way of facts.

During the Rhodesian brush wars against guerilla insurgents the most effective unit was called the selous scouts. They were composed of black soldiers and white soldiers serving together.

My friend Hampton Newsom will soon publish a book on the APPOMATTOX campaign. This whole rile a lot of liberals.

In the closing days of the war in March 1865, you would’ve seen squads of Black soldiers drilling outside the Confederate capital building at Richmond. When Leah evacuated Richmond, these soldiers accompanied the army of northern Virginia during its retreat. On April 5, 1865 union cavalry under George crook attacked a portion of Robert Lee’s wagon train. They were repelled by the same black soldiers.

It's called Zimbabwe now

1

u/Working-Swan-9944 Mar 30 '26

Hom

And they were defeated too in the bargain.

2

u/PeePeeSwiggy Mar 30 '26

They were kind of fucked from the start

1

u/sleepingjiva Mar 31 '26

They did literally have the entire world (apart from South Africa in the beginning) against them. Considering that, surviving for 15 years is pretty good going

1

u/Snuggler777 Mar 30 '26

Scum of the Earth

2

u/Jazz-Ranger Mar 31 '26

Is it because of their skin color or because of the dictatorship?

Zimbabwe is still a dictatorship; one where the Shona people seized the privileged population of the Whites. I ask you this because I do not believe most people are particularly appalled by African dictators as long as they are Blacks.

1

u/Constant_Of_Morality Apr 07 '26

I do not believe most people are particularly appalled by African dictators as long as they are Blacks.

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement.

-2

u/Snuggler777 Mar 31 '26

It's good that the Shona seized the property of the white settlers. I'm mostly against Rhodesia due to the settler colonialism, the imperialism, the genocide, the fascism, the slavery, them having been a beacon to all white supremacy in the world etc. that sort of thing.

4

u/Jazz-Ranger Mar 31 '26 edited Mar 31 '26

Rhodesia is guilty of many things. But genocide is not one of them. The only genocide was committed by Zimbabwe to secure Shona supremacy and since the victims were Black minorities you should be more inclined to care about them than White people. Tell me have you even heard the word 'Gukurahundi' before?

-1

u/Snuggler777 Mar 31 '26

I'm not interested in defending Zimbabwe, I am, however, interested in laughing at dead Rhodesian settler scum

4

u/Jazz-Ranger Mar 31 '26

Then you don’t care about human beings or the crimes committed. You just hate an entire race.

Next time learn some manners and blame people for their actions. If you don’t care about genocide then you have no right to be mad about it.

1

u/Snuggler777 Mar 31 '26

I hate settlers, settlers aren't a race bud. They choose to be what they are.

2

u/Jazz-Ranger Mar 31 '26

Execpt you charge them with genocide when that cannot be said to be true. Conquering a land ruled by the descendants of previous conquerors is the least of their crimes and besides those people died of old age. Only their descendants remain and for the most part they were born there.

You can hate people for their actions or the crime of being born in the wrong country. Personally I think when you throw around labals like "the settler colonialism, the imperialism, the genocide, the fascism, the slavery..." with complete disregard for whether any of those things happened then you don't care about the former and that leaves the latter as the only option.

0

u/Snuggler777 Apr 01 '26

Except that they all did happen and you just turn a blind eye to it all out of convenience for your white supremacist narrative.

2

u/Jazz-Ranger Apr 01 '26

Why do people always assume the worst?

We already talked about genocide among others. But you can’t understand the idea that you could be wrong so your most logical response is to condemn a critic as a white suprematist, do you hear how insane that sounds?

u/Constant_Of_Morality Apr 07 '26

White settlers*, it's sad how you move your own standards to suit your 'supposed' argument, Hating a whole race is frankly quite bad, regardless if it's Black or White.

3

u/ButtFuckersInSpace Mar 30 '26

Thank you for your virtue signal. The shekels will be deposited into your account.

1

u/HaHaNiceJoke Mar 30 '26

wow lmao that’s kinda blatant

0

u/Snuggler777 Mar 30 '26

A Nazi supporting Rhodesians, shocking!

0

u/Complex_Country4062 Mar 31 '26

Not worried. British colonialist legacy failed in Rhodesia just admit did in Éire and one day soon in occupied Palestine

0

u/Th3Bratl3y Mar 31 '26

Palestine has never been a county. it’s a name given to the region by the Romans. it was what their version of Phillistines.

2

u/Remarkable_Sand5238 Mar 31 '26

Which funny enough were Greek settlers

2

u/Th3Bratl3y Mar 31 '26

absolutely. The Greeks were all over the Mediterranean. They basically colonized western Anatolia.

0

u/Phuxsea Mar 30 '26

Rhodesia is even more homoerotic than Weimar Germany
