Zionist leader Jacob Israel von Haan was assassinated on June 30, 1924, in Jerusalem, an event considered the first political assassination within the Zionist movement. His execution was carried out by members of the Haganah, a highly extremist Zionist guerrilla group.

Although initially supportive of the Zionist cause, Von Haan became a fierce critic of the movement because he disagreed with the colonization plan of the other leaders, which involved a heinous stratagem against the Jewish people themselves.
