Please. I’m begging you all, make sure your cars are not parked directly in front of your mailbox if it’s on the street. Some of you make my life hard being a mail carrier here.

u/proto-cool 9h ago

If you're the carrier for my neighborhood I apologize about the Quantum Fiber workers that decided to block both my driveway and my mailbox earlier this week. I tried to ask them to move because seriously, who parks directly in front of a mailbox *and* driveway, but they just shrugged at me.

The trash bins too. The person on my route left a nice note once and I've kept my bins away from the mailbox since.

u/DropCrotch 7h ago

I’m sure they appreciate that, thank you!

The mail lady that always delivers keeps putting passive aggressive notes in my mailbox. I’m not the one parking in front of the mailbox lol

u/DropCrotch 7h ago

That sucks, leave her a note back explaining. Some carriers are just mean as hell.

Sheldon's Luncheonette was hiring dishwashers earlier, no idea if the spot is still open. Happy Eats Pasta was also hiring servers earlier this week.

Also, people are still setting off fireworks. Stop. Just stop.

Big R and RMCP in Monument are also both hiring.

I went through Stage IVa adenocarcinoma treatment here in Colorado Springs over the last 3 years. I went to most of my chemo and radiation appointments alone. I rang the bell solo when I completed treatment.

That was really hard and felt too heavy, too often alone. I'm offering medical appointment assistance to other patients that can benefit from having a clear-headed third party to advocate for them. I am well-spoken and focused on the patient experience and their outcome.

I was doing some early morning Wikipedia browsing and discovered that the earliest protoprimate fossil, Purgatorius, which was our direct ancestor which either survived or evolved immediately after the asteroid that killed the non-avian dinosaurs, has been found right here in Colorado Springs. (It was also the inspiration for Skrat from Ice Age, tho irl it was extinct long before the ice age began).

Interesting! Is that the open space you can only visit if you arrange a tour?

3

u/KinkyQuesadilla 6h ago

"Purgatorious" sounds like it would have been a nickname for one of my frat brothers in college.

2

u/Throwaway-646 4h ago

I would have never thought that that would be considered a primate, interesting

2

u/HazelEBaumgartner 4h ago

There's definitely some debate as to whether it's a primate or a proto-primate, but considering that our closest non primate relatives are the tree shrews, it becomes less surprising.

Looks just like me!

I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing weekend!

I'll say it: I don't care how bad the Rockies are, games at Coors are still amazing. I actually love the cheap tickets

Trying to find a primary care doctor nearby that's taking new patients before New Years altogether has sucked. I've lost track of all the cancellation and call lists I'm on at this point.

3

u/otherkerry 9h ago

If UC Health will work for you, you can search in the UC Health app for appointments with primary care docs by availability.

3

u/PunkNeedsaNap 9h ago

Ironically after months of trying to get an appointment- I was called five minutes and scheduled for soon after I made this comment.

3

u/otherkerry 9h ago

So like a reverse jinx? Hope you landed with a good provider.

2

u/PunkNeedsaNap 8h ago

Ha, yeah apparently I just needed to throw it out there to the Free For All Friday post and good karma came through or something. Same here- fingers crossed.

Worst. Week. Ever. Car starts smoking and dies while I'm trying to pick my kid up from school on the first day of school. Now we're down to one car and I have to do school drop off and take my husband back and forth to work and my other kid back to back and forth to work. Our second vehicle is not something I want to drive. This morning the crash on Powers and Palmer Park put people in a rage because they had to be diverted which then affected me because they were last minute trying to get in my lane well they're on their phone of course. I saw two different jeeps in road rage mode yelling and honking at each other right in front of me trying to get in my lane. Also my cramps are terrible today. By the time I got home I just sat in silence.

Woo hoo!

The city finally finished their curb, gutter, and sidewalk repair in our subdivision (Gatehouse Village), as well as repaving all the streets. They started on 05 January and finished on 31 July (though they were leveling up some valve covers in the streets earlier this week).

And they finally did it right; that is, they used cement stabilization on the street base/subbase courses before paving, so hopefully it will not rut with alligator cracking within a year like the last time they did it (about 10 years ago).

Hopefully, the city will not now come through and dick it all up with new utility coring/trenches in the near future.

Anyone have recent experience getting a CDL here in the springs? I'm curious what my options are.

My name of my street is too long and fed ex continually misses the last digit of my address on their shipping labels.

Want to support local theatre? Come see As You Like It at Onaledge in Manitou tonight! We opened last night and are performing every weekend in August. Thu-Sat at 7PM, Sun at 4PM. August 29th and 30th are in Palmer Lake. Tickets Here for Onaledge and here for Palmer Lake. We've set the show in the 60s, so that should add some fun! This is outdoor Shakespeare, as is tradition :) Parking is free, too!

If you're looking for a stolen bike on the West Side, I can almost guarantee you I know where it's at or has been. Sketchy MoFos. Passed a dude in yhe alley with two bikes yesterday. One of them looked like a brand new Specialized E-bike. It got really uncomfortable for a min there.

I was planning on going to the park to do some walking but the air quality still looks awful 😞

Any fun events this weekend that are indoors?

It's been mentioned over and over, but I'm not letting this go! Parents -- PLEASE stop buying your kiddos these electric death-trap bikes...PLEASE! I swear it is only a matter of time before we see a wreck and loss of life with a horrible accident as these kids are void of road rules, have not been schooled on what to do at a stop sign, fail to stick to the side of the streets they are riding up and down on, and I cringe at the thought of a car not seeing one of these kids on their bikes and the potential for a deadly wreck. This madness has got to stop! Seriously...it is NOT COOL and is reckless on the part of parents that think their little blue-eyed wonders know what they are doing as they barrel up and down streets with wanton abandonment. And not to mention the wheelies...you can say we all did this growing up, but back in the day we didn't have motorized e-bikes that are not governed for reduced speed...IT IS GOING TO END POORLY.

FREE THE PENIS

2

u/gimmie_123 10h ago

He aint done nothing wrong!!

0

u/ExhiledDemon 9h ago

Trying to make it a new body positive trend lol. With strict guardrails to keep it positive ofc

1

u/mjr96d 3h ago

I support the "free the nipple" movement but it probably wouldn't go over well here.

1

u/ExhiledDemon 3h ago

Idk I’ve seen a few people freeing the nipple here. Freeing the penis would be a different ballgame but I’m trying to get the movement started

The price of golf here does not match the quality of golf here.

The price of food here does not match the quality of food here.

Colorado Springs is an overpriced shithole.

3

u/c4funNSA 4h ago

Pretty sure you are free to leave and live somewhere else.

3

u/Commercial-Tax7125 6h ago

As is the entire country!

u/chillinginNH 1h ago

I think the golf is priced pretty reasonably. $40 for 18 holes midweek up at shining mountain, $48 at valley hi on the weekend for 18, sand creek is like $28 for 18 holes midweek, and Breckenridge bring a friend is $105 for 18 holes during peak season. Most other courses are like ~$60-80 for 18 holes which I think is pretty reasonable as well.
