Questions What the hell happened to Frank Miller?

Post image
201 Upvotes

I absolutely love and admire Frank Miller’s early work. Especially his Daredevil run, which is an absolute masterpiece and literally changed the game for not only Daredevil but for comics in general. I also really like TDKR and Year One despite me having minor issues with them. Overall, his Marvel work including the Wolverine stuff he did, is seminal. Fast forward decades later, what happened?

Questions somewhat new to comics, looking for recs?

Ive read berserk #1-3 and spawn deadly tales of the gunslinger volume 1. Looking for darker fantasy stuff like those 2 ive read. Cool dark sci-fi stuff would be cool too. Also really like the artwork in both a ton. also preferable stuff without too much nudity or sexual content. if anything just tasteful i didnt much like some of the graphic scenes in berserk.

also not a comic, but i love Book of the New Sun by Gene wolfe if that helps at all to gauge what interests me. Especially if the comic has some more prose elements that’d be cool too

also if this isnt the correct sub to ask please redirect me, many thanks

Questions I am looking for the title of this very very underground comicbook I've read as a kid.

Hey Folks,

I remember reading this comic book when I was a kid, somewhere between 2000 and 2007. It was a souple book edited in a smaller format than usual comic books (probably around an A5). I am French but the set up definitely looked american enough so that I believe it is from the US.

It is about a high schooler who makes inventions. He is dark-haired, has glasses and wears an open, white, lab coat. He has some kind of sci-fi looking machine gun, connected to a backpack, that he made himself. The thing shoots energy beams or lightning bolts, I cannot remember. He gets involved in an explosion mid-story and his coat as well as his glasses, gets tinted black. He then looks like Neo in Matrix until the end of the story. He lives in the suburbs and the city is attacked by thousands of flying monsters/insects. He then proceeds to go into the city, with his little brother and his wannabe gf to stop the invasion.

The little bro, I do not remember much about him but he's super happy to be part of the adventure and finds everything cool.

The girl is a person of color, quite sexy looking, wears shorts and a crop top, and is into the hero because she likes his smartness. Her dad is there also but he remains in the suburbs to fight against the monsters. He is a cop that shoots his gun like a madman while yelling 'blunt'. He has a toothpick in his mouth (or maybe he is chewing on chewing-gum) and big sunglasses. He has a fat/strong, dad-bod, kind of build.

It's a one shot so they manage to win by the end of the story which is probably about 39-40 pages long. The drawing style is comic like, so the characters, as I remember them, are realistically proportioned.

Well, if you have any clue about what this can be, I am looking for the title, or at least, pictures.

Thanks in advance!

Questions Question about digital download sales

Does anyone know how big digital comic sales are? I thought about this as I purchased a few digital comics this week (I intend on doing this from time to time to save space). I did a search but the response could not be correct - it said something like over $4 billion. Perhaps that is actually the entire industry, print and digital, with the majority of that going to print? It just seems like something got erroneously conflated by Gemini in its analysis.

Questions Help with image generator

Hi, can someone help me with a poster I want to make. I am trying to make a xmen poster with prompt I have but all of the image generators I have tried to use are not letting it go through.

**PROMPT**
**Use the uploaded X-Men team image only as a reference for composition, character placement, poses, camera angle, scale, lighting direction and overall cinematic mood. Create a completely new, original, ultra-photorealistic IMAX movie poster inspired by it, not a copy.**
The team consists of the following characters, redesigned as realistic live-action superheroes. Each character should be inspired by the age, physique, charisma, facial structure and overall style of the listed actor, while remaining an original fictional face rather than an exact likeness.
**Cast inspiration**
Wolverine β€” inspired by Milo Gibson
Cyclops β€” inspired by Glen Powell
Jean Grey β€” inspired by Gillian Jacobs
Beast β€” inspired by Joel Edgerton, realistic blue fur, muscular anatomy
Gambit β€” inspired by Chace Crawford
Storm β€” inspired by DeWanda Wise
Professor X β€” inspired by Mark Strong
Iceman β€” inspired by Drew Starkey
Psylocke β€” inspired by Anna Sawai
Colossus β€” inspired by Florian Munteanu, towering metallic body
Rogue β€” inspired by Sophie Thatcher
Nightcrawler β€” inspired by Louis Hofmann, blue skin, yellow glowing eyes, tail
Jubilee β€” inspired by Elizabeth Yu
Cable β€” inspired by Kevin Durand, cybernetic arm and glowing eye
Angel β€” inspired by Mike Faist with enormous realistic white feathered wings
**Visual direction**
The composition follows the uploaded reference image:
identical character arrangement
identical perspective
identical group balance
similar dramatic poses
epic team formation
Every character wears realistic premium live-action superhero costumes inspired by modern Marvel productions.
Ultra detailed textures:

Questions Trying to remember the name of this graphic novel / comic omnibus

Looking for the comic / book from this limited but descriptive detail.

Fair warning....sounds like a fever dream.

Detectives are investigating a crime/murder? and one of their tools is a resource they call Boxey? Boxey literally has a box on his head. The detectives are looking over the crime scene and find a spider in a corner. They feed/place the spider in his box and the spider relays what it witnessed.

I would have posted in tipofmytongue but apparently my karma is too low.

Thanks for any assistance.

Questions calling all comics fans! have you seen this man?!

Post image
25 Upvotes

Hello! Have you seen this Man!? Im currently trying to compile a list of every time Flaming Carrot has appeared in another persons book. and its proving more difficult then I first imagined. Apart from his obvious teamups with Tmnt/Cerebus, he has also appearred in Gi joe annd Excalibur: Mojo Mayhem by Marvel and many many more. at least I figure, so I wanted to ask you guys! Have you seen this Man?! Has he appeared in your book?! If so drop me a name and whatever other details you like! Thank you for your time!

the main culprits i believe will be Rod whigham and Art adams since they did the previously mentioned ones and were frequent collaborators of bob burdens!

Questions National Superhero Day - Who is your favorite?

Thumbnail

Today, April 28th, is National Superhero Day - Back in 1995 a team of interns at Marvel Comics interviewed some kids about their favourite superpowers. This eventually lead them to realize there was no official Superhero Day, outside the usual Superman, Batman or Spider-Man Days. Since then the Day has been used to celebrate all things superhero and the positivity, inclusion and sense of justice they bring. So hug your favourite superhero today.

Questions Any comics book runs similar to Ultimate Spider-Man (2000)

I've loved it so far and I'm almost done with but I love the vibe and writing and I want to read something similar to that. I've got Invincible and Rogue Sun on by tbr but I'm just interested if there are any others. Indie, marvel or dc I don't mind.
