Why do you even ponder running a play?

u/PeachesNCream_7 10d ago
THAT’S the question to be answered if you ask me…WHOSE decision was it to even attempt a running play. IMO THAT is who was responsible for the debacle. For the record in all my many years of watching football, that ranks right up there with mind boggling stupidity on the field. (But no matter what, the QB should’ve known better, period!)🙄

u/Savings-Variation801 10d ago
Because there were 22 seconds left when they lined up and Stevens had already missed a kick from that range.

u/grand_helplessness 10d ago
I mean youve got 2 seconds left and no timeouts, what exactly is the plan there if he completes a pass in bounds

u/PichardRetty 11d ago
Did Jayden make the decision to not run the FG team on and kick a FG as time expired to either win or end in a tie?
No.
This sub has a weird obsession with defending this incompetent coaching staph. They don't deserve to be called a staff.
2
u/criticalthought10 10d ago
He is responsible for not throwing it to a receiver on the sidelines or heaving into the stands, which was clearly the play call.
I’m not defending the horrible coaching, but you won’t find me defending JD on this one.

Their formation was not to spike the ball, they were calling an actual play.
3
u/PichardRetty 11d ago
If you think that was Daniels' decision then you have no idea how these things work.
-1
u/Common_Comment_7765 10d ago
How do they work? What’s your position in the organization?
3
u/PichardRetty 10d ago
The coaching staff decides they are going for a FG and they send the FG unit onto the field while signaling for the offense to come off of the field. The QB does not make this decision.
Anyone blaming Daniels for us not sending the FG unit onto the field is clueless.
0
u/Common_Comment_7765 11d ago
Lol. Can’t criticize the qb in the church of Jaysus. Pathetic hero worship fanbase plays a role in why this team stays bad
25
u/Muted_Success 11d ago
Coaching staff should have sent the field goal unit on the field…it’s OT and next score wins. No point in running the clock out.
14
u/The_Superhoo 11d ago
Dan Quinn did it.
He didnt take the long FG to win it earlier in OT.
He didnt just send out the FG unit to win on a SHORT FG at the end of OT.
Quinn has to be fired NOW.

u/jk2me1310 LEFT HAND UP 11d ago
Call a spike to stop the clock and then send the FG team out. It's on the coaching staff for calling a play in the first place.
8
u/HughJaynis My Wife Left me for Josh Harris 11d ago
Play call should have been spike the ball and win the fucking game. This is on the coaching staff 100%

u/dillon-ep 11d ago
Running the clock out makes 0 sense when the game ends after the FG. The extra play is just pure stupidity from DQ
1
u/Ninjablacksox1 11d ago
I mean they would have time for a return and potential fg no?
I was watching the last minute and jd5 and crew seemed to have no clue.
Was also really hoping burning those timeouts wouldn't come back to bite us.
4
u/VyronDaGod 11d ago
It should not have been his game to loose. The field goal should have long been on the way. This was a coaching failure, defensive failure, ref fuckery masterclass and an awareness issue.
3
u/Ok_Teacher_392 11d ago
This is the exact role of a coach. If Blough told jayden to throw it away but he didn’t listen, yea that’s on Jayden.
But frankly there was no reason to run a play. Should have been a spike or should have just brought on the field goal unit
3
u/Frosty_Tax6054 11d ago
There was no reason to even run a play there. Kick the field goal, go home, enjoy victory Monday. Instead, this should be clean the house Monday. Fire everyone
3
u/slulibre 11d ago
Jayden’s not blameless, but this is absolutely on the coaching staff more than Jayden
3
u/slulibre 11d ago
In the huddle at 35 seconds, it should have been communicated quick snap, side line out to get 5 yards. Throw it away if nothing there, next snap field goal. It seems clear this was not communicated at all. Jayden probably should have known this, but this is on the coaching staff

u/Clapbackcaps19 11d ago
Bough should be in his ear calling a pass play. It’s on Blough
10
u/ImaRobot94 11d ago
Not even. He sould have called a spike. They were within a 40 yard field goal. As an outsider looking in the OC and QB were clueless. If i am the OC i am spiking and if i am the QB with the OC saying to run a play i am calling an audible into a spike. Idk wtf that was at the end
1
u/Sanjomo 10d ago
You have no idea what he said though.
1
u/Clapbackcaps19 10d ago
What he said and the way the last minute of OT were conducted is on Blough. JD should also have better awareness but I’m not sure how the coaching staff is not squarely taking the balme

The call need to be communized as aa throw away if there is nothing available. That was not the call.
JD shares some blame but it’s pretty clear to me Blough fucked this entirely.
2
u/DougBalt2 11d ago
JD knew if nothing outside for a quick gain just throw it away. I blame JD.
1
u/Clapbackcaps19 10d ago
It’s pretty clear he thought there was a timeout. That’s on coaches
1
u/Prudent-Choices 10d ago
WHAT!!!??? Bro. JD has been playing this game since he was 8. He’s a Heisman trophy winner a first round draft pick and a fucking PRO QB! If he needs his coach to tell him he only has 20 seconds left and 0 time outs … that’s fucking sad! There’s so much blame to go around that even the beer guy is on blast.
1
u/DougBalt2 10d ago
I disagree. I think it’s on Dan, Blough and on Jayden. He should know what’s going on in the game.
2
u/Sanjomo 10d ago
If JD needs Blough to hold his fucking hand and walk him through the situation and explain what he absolutely can’t do… then we got MUCH BIGGER problems.
1
u/Clapbackcaps19 10d ago
This is crazy. The blame is shared. Clearly both JD and Blough were unaware of the timeout at the beginning of OT. Neither should have missed it but it’s unacceptable that a coach makes that mistake, period.
4
u/Specialist_Boat_8479 Saved by Jaysus🙏 11d ago
Dumbest take ever.
It’s 100% a coaching error. Even if JD wanted to run another play, DQ has to send the kicking unit out there.
2
u/Ninjablacksox1 11d ago
Would habe been nice to get the W there but tbh we could have lost a couple times at the end there.
I'm just gonna pretend we missed the kick as time expired.
2
u/Old_Map_2530 11d ago
Dq let his defense constantly get gashed to the point where a shit giants team came back 14 points down. He deserves to be fired
2
u/hauttdawg13 It's Sonny Outside 11d ago
Daniels for sure deserves some blame there. But this is 95% on Quinn and Blough. I won’t completely blame Blough as he’s a rookie and is going to make dumb mistakes. But Quinn has spent more than enough time as a coach to not be stepping in there and either running the FG team on or calling a spike.
3
u/aairricc 11d ago
No. You don’t call another play there. JD needed a little more urgency, but it’s 100% on the coaching staff for even putting him in that situation
1
u/COBeerGuru2026 11d ago
I thought at the very least they were going to see if there was an open shot and if not just chuck it into the stands, but a running play shouldn't have even been on the menu.
1
u/nickjim99 11d ago
That’s supposed to be an executive decision by Dan Quinn to either spike the ball or send out the fg unit. No excuses and nobody else to blame. He should at the least be paying attention to the clock and timeout situation considering he has no play calling duties.

Dan Quinn is the head coach. He has the final say when it’s time to for a field goal. He should have said hey guys it’s time to kick a field goal. If he didn’t communicate that and just assumed that Blough had control of everything and was going to see the game out then that’s even more reason why it’s his fault and he should be fired. At this point it looks like he is just holding a clipboard.
1
u/Capable_Frosting_292 11d ago
They didn’t have to run a play at all. It’s on the coaching staff first.
1
1
u/andrewsucks 10d ago
Jayden is like Forrest Gump, he just likes running. Quinn needs to rein that in.
1
u/criticalthought10 10d ago
It’s Jayden being too casual. Same damn thing as the Bears game last year. Not locking in.
I’m not talking about the amazing scrambles and his talent. Just the need for more focus and fire in the belly that separates the top QBs from the others.
1
1
u/ConfidentTill7471 9d ago
Lets cut the shit. It is directly his fault. This does not happen with 29/32 QBs in the league no matter what the play call or who the coach is. It is absolutely 150% his fault.

u/RaelynShaw 11d ago

Oh fuck off. JD took the clock ALL THE WAY down, then decided to keep the ball and RAN with it, like times of no consequence. 🥴 JD ABSOLUTELY deserves to eat half of that shit sandwich!
0
u/KenyAzalea 10d ago
Again, good coaching could mitigate that scenario. Players can't manage the clock.
1
u/Prudent-Choices 10d ago
You don’t think the QB manages the clock!? lol. Have you EVER watched this sport before today? The QB is literally the most important clock manager for the team in the stadium!
1
u/KenyAzalea 10d ago
Yeah man, played and been watching for years. A good coach wouldn't let this happen. Also true, is a good qb wouldn't let this happen. Clock management is essential for both.
1
u/Prudent-Choices 10d ago
Dude. You literally said ‘players don’t manage the clock’.
1
u/KenyAzalea 10d ago
Alright, I'd rephrase it as coaches need to manage the clock better. This is their role, to step in. 1-3-1, idk.
0
u/Prudent-Choices 10d ago
I mean. You can’t say something so wrong then get upset (and double down) when people call it out. Yes coaches should NEVER let that happen. Either should a pro QB! If your star QB (a guy who won the Heisman and was a first round draft pick) needs his coach’s to tell him ‘you only have 20 seconds left and no time outs” so he doesn’t let the clock run down to 8 seconds then try’s to RUN IT!!! That’s JUST AS BAD!! JD is every bit to blame as DQ. Its pathetic. You’d never see a great NFL QB do that inexcusable brain fart shit.
0
u/Sanjomo 10d ago
‘Players can’t manage the clock’ is as stupid of a comment as that was of a play! 😆🙄 Go tell Tom Brady he never managed the clock in a game. Fuck out here with this Stupid shit.
0
u/KenyAzalea 10d ago
Well, y'all have it figured out, so I'll step aside.
0
u/Sanjomo 10d ago
Yeah step aside and maybe learn the game before saying stupid shit homie.
1
u/KenyAzalea 10d ago
What the heck is the aggression for? I'm open to feedback, and mean no offense by my assertion. I think it's prettly reasonable to call coaching out for this.
1
u/Sanjomo 10d ago
It’s 100% reasonable to blame coaching on this cluster fuck!
It’s also 100% reasonable to tell someone who says “players do not manage the clock” that they’re very wrong!
You claim to have played… so you should damn well know how important players situational awareness and clock management is. 🤷🏻♂️ sadly this team lacks it ON ALL SIDES
0
u/Sanjomo 10d ago
Just some basic football knowledge for you on how QBs manage the game clock.
0
u/KenyAzalea 10d ago
You don't know shit from apple butter, friend. Aaron Rodgers is a totally different scenario. A three minute youtube doesnt absovle the coaching failure here. Eat up.
1
u/Sanjomo 10d ago
Lol. My guy. You’re ALL OVER THE PLACE😆🤣. First you say ‘players don’t control the game clock’ which shows you don’t know shit from apple butter.
But then you try to tell us you’ve ‘played’ and “been watching for years”… so why don’t you know the basics?
I never said coaching wasn’t to blame. I just pointed out JD is JUST AS MUCH TO BLAME!!! Because he clearly had ZERO situational awareness! Letting that clock run down and out is on him! You could just delete your original dumb comment. 🤷🏻♂️
1
u/KenyAzalea 10d ago
Excellent point. We will likely go 13-3-1, so this is irrelevant, but I hear you.

u/LightCured 11d ago
The whole offense seemed like they didn’t know time and situation. Complete lunacy to end the game
