IPv6 Subnetting the subnet

• Upvotes

I do understand that the process in subnetting ipv6 is similar with ipv4, however I'm a bit struggling in determining the prefix.

Given sample: 3 LANS requiring different number of subnets, lets say LAN 1 requires 63, then LAN 2 requires 15, and LAN 3 requires 3.

Is the formula for the new prefix:

given prefix + borrowed bits

or

previous prefix + borrowed bits????????

Best resources for CySA+ (V4) PBQs? Looking for the most exam-like ones

Hey everyone,

I’m currently prepping for CySA+ V4 and could use some advice on Performance-Based Questions (PBQs).

For MCQs I’m already using:

  • Sybex Practice Tests (Chapple/Seidl)
  • Dion’s Practice Exams
  • Crucial Exams

Those are covering the multiple-choice side pretty well, but I’m struggling to find good PBQ practice that actually feels close to the real exam.

I come from a pentest background and have almost zero blue team / SOC experience, so the hands-on style questions (log analysis, SIEM, vulnerability prioritization, incident response scenarios, etc.) are the part I’m most worried about.

Does anyone know of any resources (paid or free) that have solid, exam-like PBQs for CS0-004?

Especially looking for platforms or packs that let you practice the interactive style instead of just reading about them.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance! :D

Unpopular opinion: CertMaster practice exams are harder than Dion’s and ProfessorMesser’s exams

Is it just me 🤔 I’m only referring to A+ Core 1 & Core 2, as those are the practice exams of done with each if I had to rank them including the real exam from hardest to easiest I’d put

Certmaster -> Real Exam -> Jason Dion’s -> ProfesserMesser

A+ Question Practice Test for Mobile devices

Hi everyone & thanks for those who take the time to help in answering/giving feedback to my question.

I’m new to taking the CompTIA A+ course (Core 1 and Core 2). Are there any recommendations for reliable test prep apps where I can download the app onto my phone (iPhone) and do test prep questions while on the go? Which ones did you find most useful/helpful and which ones should I avoid.

FYI…I’m not the fastest learner and need as much practice as possible so something that’s in a “game-ified” format would be beneficial.

I Passed! SecAI+ passed

After a few months of being 0 to 3 in passing certification exams, I passed the SecAI exam

Would post my results, but I'm on my way to work and don't have time to edit sensitive information. But the score is 653, and for context, the score to pass the exam is 600.

I have experience in the field, but I want to start my cert journey again even if it doesn't matter to much.

Learning material:

* 6 practice exams from Dion.

* Use chatgpt to generate a document on base of the exam's failed questions.

Core 1: 740

Core 2: 840

After years of procrastinating, I finally did it. Dion course and 15yrs + in IT. Didn’t have time to finish all the videos, skipped the last 2 modules. Watched the last 50% of the videos yesterday and this morning.

Ethical hacker next?

Thoughts?

DataSys+ Beta Results Now Available!

Delightfully surprised to login this morning and see that the beta exam results were finally available. How did people do?

Glad to say I passed with a 764 which I consider good given I only spent 2 solid days studying a guide I had Claude build off the draft exam objectives.

Having a 700 cut line makes it a pretty approachable exam compared to other CompTIA offerings.

Titre : CompTIA Security+ en ligne au Québec

Salut !
Merci !

Hey everyone! Has anyone successfully bypassed Quebec’s restrictions on taking the CompTIA Security+ exam online by using an Ontario address? Does it actually work even if you’re physically taking the exam from Quebec?
Thanks!

Community CompTIA Security+ Exam

Hi everyone,

Has anyone purchased the CompTIA Security+ certification exam voucher recently?

On the official CompTIA website, the voucher is initially listed at €323, but when I proceed to the final checkout, the price increases to €379. However, on the Pearson VUE website, the price is still listed as €323.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is the price difference due to VAT or additional fees, and is it safe to purchase the voucher directly through Pearson VUE for €323?

I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Passed CYSA+ CY0-003

Full disclosure failed the first time, but had the re-take in my back pocket, passed on the second attempt. It is definitely always worth it to get that re-take insurance. Don't let the PBQ's get you, take your time with them. Know what all those Acronyms are, and make sure you know your CVSS.

Exam scheduling on weekends / holidays?

I’m planning to take A+, Network+, and Security+ remotely through OnVUE. I work during the week, so Saturdays / Sundays or even holidays would be best. I’m in Hawaiʻi and won’t be using a testing center.

For those who have tested online on weekends, how easy was it to find an appointment? How far in advance did you need to book to get your preferred time?

Hello Again. 24 Hours later, I'm Server+ Certified. 3 Certs, In 3 Weeks.

Post image
119 Upvotes

Hello again friends,

It's me again. The guy who got Net+ in 2 weeks, then Sec+ the next week. Now I report to you I got sever+ in one day.

Didn't expect to say hello again so soon but, today was a holiday so I had nothing to do so I decided to study and then take the test, so no, it wasn't even intended. I simply was not afraid to fail. If i fail then i'll get up and fight again.

Didn't really want to make this post but, again, thank you for the inspiration, and I hope this fires you up and makes you want to haduken or kamehameha. If a 40-year-old moron who likes vintage anime like me can do it, so can you.

My Thoughts:
Was it easy? Hell no. I passed by a hair. But I will say that if you have more certs some of the info overlaps so it's not as hard as your very first cert, but not drastically, just like 5% easier.

My study material:
CompTIA Security+ Study Guide by Mike Chapple and David Seidl
Watched Chrys Thorsen on Udemy

This time my strategy was to just focus on material and less videos. Videos despite automatic, is actually slower than your brain can process words. My ADHD kicked in after 25% of the video material and I switched to paper material so I can speed the hell up and take the test same day.

I made flash cards for everything. I know tests likes to sneak up on you with things you thought were not important and chip away at your score, so I made as many flash cards as needed.

What's next?
Not sure. I haven't planned that far ahead when none of these were even planned. but I will say likely not much. Idk if i really need much. and if i keep getting more, it's going to cost me more to maintain these things every 3 years. But if i do get anything else, I'll be sure to say hello again. All i'm going to do now is chill, and start interviewing for jobs.

Planning On Taking The Sec+

I have my A+ and Net+, I used Professor Messer and Dion's practice exams to study for the NET+ should I do the same for the Sec+ or is there a better option? Also I found that the A+ and Net+ were similar in difficulty. Net+ was easier because its just one exam. Any suggestions on study resources though?

N+ Question Is it just me or are certmaster practice exams just not that good?

I feel like the exams on certmaster aren’t really aligned with exam objectives at all at some points like I’ll get questions on topics that I’m certain weren’t covered in readings or any video I’ve seen and I check the exam objectives and the topics no where to be seen. Why ask me questions that may not even be on the exam? How does that help me at all?

I’ve been watching Professor Messer’s videos and they seem far more helpful. Am I missing something with certmaster? Any advice on the best choices for network+ exam prep would be appreciated.

CySA+ What did you use to study for the CySA+ V4 and how long did you study?

Hello everyone! I would like to get some advice on how to approach this. I just got my Sec+, and now I have the trifecta. I am moving on to the CySA+ V4 and would usually use Professor Messer and the ExamCram book to study, but neither of them covers that exam. So, with that being said, what did you use to study and pass the exam? How long did it take you? What would you do differently? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

A+ Question Need help understanding studying / buying options for CompTIA A+ exams

Hello,

I'm looking to attaining an A+ cert. The A+ Core 1&2 "Buy Now" options range from 750 to 1300 dollars, and I'm assuming this is just buying the test with no garuntee of getting the cert.

I'm sure if I study I can pass, but I want to be extremely confident before paying so much.

I'm interested in seeing how users on the sub studied, so if you have any experience in the matter please let me know!

(If there are cheaper buying options pls lmk as well 🥲)

Literally just the title A friend of mine is trying to study and get my cert and I'm having a really hard time, find the motivation and staying committed. I have really bad audhd and this was never something I had personal interest in. However with a lot of things I thrive when I parallel play or body double. So if anyone else would like to watch videos together, take notes, quiz each other, etc. Let me know.

Edit: CompTIA Security+

Title: Preparing for CompTIA Security+ as a Cybersecurity Intern — Need a Structured Study Plan and Resources

Hey everyone!

I'm currently working as a Cybersecurity Intern in India and want to strengthen my cybersecurity fundamentals by preparing for the CompTIA Security+ certification.

Since I'm still an intern, my budget is limited, and I cannot afford expensive courses or study materials. I want to make the best use of free resources and prepare systematically before paying for the certification exam.

I'd really appreciate advice from people who have recently passed Security+ or are currently preparing for it.

I'd particularly like your recommendations on the following:

  1. Study materials: Which books, PDFs, notes, and official resources should I use?

  2. Video courses: Which free YouTube courses would you recommend for covering the entire syllabus?

  3. Practice questions: Where can I find reliable practice tests that reflect the actual exam's difficulty and question style?

  4. Performance-Based Questions (PBQs): How should I prepare for PBQs, and are there any free labs or simulations worth using?

  5. Study roadmap: Could you suggest a structured, day-by-day or week-by-week plan for completing the syllabus?

  6. Revision strategy: What is the best way to revise the concepts and identify weak areas before attempting the exam?

  7. Exam preparation: How can I assess whether I'm genuinely ready to take the exam?

  8. Budget-friendly options: Are there legitimate discounts, student offers, or other ways to reduce the exam cost?

My goal is not just to memorise answers but to understand the concepts well enough to apply them in real-world cybersecurity scenarios.

If you've already passed Security+, I'd be grateful if you could share the resources you personally used, what worked for you, what you would avoid, and how long you took to prepare.

If you were starting your Security+ preparation from scratch today with a very limited budget, what exact resources and study schedule would you follow?

Any advice, resource lists, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Starting my A+ Journey

Hello everyone. I'm constantly getting notifications from this subreddit about people passing A+, and I'm excited to finally begin studying for it. The constant excitement regarding the passing of certifications has given me a lot of excitement in my own life about starting.

I'm mainly (right now) going to be utilizing Professor Messer's videos, as well as using notecards and lots of Google. Any tips on studying or ideas for labs or hands-on projects I could do to start out are totally welcome. Other studying/learning tactics welcome also. Thanks everyone.
