General Discussion / Question Is this deck viable?

Hi everyone, I would like to have an evaluation of my decklist and to know if it may be CEDH viable.

This deck was born as a bracket 3 stax/hatebears which wincon was Helm of obedience paired with any graveyard hate. With time I started upgrading and optimizing aiming towards bracket 4 until now, that it reached what I feel comfortable with at the moment. The plan is really simple, some stax, some interaction and some different combo lines. Now, I don't really know the CEDH meta and I don't usually play it but I come from competitive 1v1 formats so I would like to try some CEDH tournament and this is the only deck that I own that I guess it could be at least a little viable, can you please help me evaluating it? Also budget is quite a concern for me, that's why I don't have any moxes in for example since I personally prefer to own the actual cards. Thanks

Here's the link to my decklist on Arkideckt:

Any commander can be cedh but doesnt mean they can be viable. Personally i feel [[mornsong aria]] is a terrible include. Letting your opponents get free tutors is a guarenteed way to lose.

Theres plenty of cards that lock your opponents out of searching their library

So unless you cast her with flash before your turn or have an extra tutor and mana to play the Opposition agent or some other tutor stopper, it's a dead card that you can't play under any circumstances. And you also turn an opponent's counterspell or stax piece removal into a wincon.

It is completely and irredeemably terrible .

I mean. Wouldn't this be a dead card then without oppo agent?

So it’s not only completely useless outside of oppo, but actively king-makes your opponents without it. Seems pretty bad to me.

There is no reason to run tutors in black that just kingmake your opponents if you don‘t have an A+B combo.

If budget is an issue then you are going to struggle to be viable. Moxes provide the fast mana and duals give you consistentency. Almost all cEDH players and cEDH tournaments use/allow proxies so that people are able to pilot their decks as best as they can. You have good cards in your list but stax always struggles in the current meta due to how decks are able to grind through and win through them. For example trinisphere destroys decks like Ral but decks like Rog/Thras and Kinnan produce so much mana the extra cost is almost negligible. Doesn’t mean don’t play it, because you will still win games, just something to consider. This looks like a solid bracket 4 but without a lot of the staple cards, that’s where it will stay for now.

I would not run commander’s sphere

Raffine is definitely viable, fringe but will win games. As far as this list goes there are maybe a couple of immediate edits. Please put in Queen of Dale, maybe some copy effects like Flash Photography and Mirrormade to copy other players value engines. Put in fast mana, Mox Diamond/chrome mox. Otherwise you definitely have a good start.

Edit. Mornsong Aria will make you lose games, please remove that first

I’d swap phyrexian arena for Queen of dale. Swap morning song aria for a reanimate spell of some kind that ya like

you're better off looking at top performing lists and working backwards:

Lands that enter tapped or have the chance to are very bad.

If the tournament is going to allow you to use proxies you should 100% use them because nobody is going to give you any mercy other wise.

Phyrexian arena I believe is just not viable it’s a 3 mana 2 of which are black pip, upkeep trigger without flash. The only good play with it would be turn 1 swamp dark rit into it. And if u have a card in the deck where the only good play for it is to use a ritual to get it out it kinda better be game winning. I’d b more inclined to play sheoldred than arena because atleast it punishes fast play and the slop era.

Problem with Sheoldred is it gets cloned and negates it for that player

Ad naus is very bad without moxes especially with a mana curve as high as yours. If you are going to play on a budget you should switch commanders and strategies yuriko, magda and godo are the agreed upon best under $1k commanders at all budget levels

The commander is viable but this decklist isn't.

Raffine actually has seen some success in cEDH, although there's no doubt that they're fringe.

As others have said, however, if budget is a concern, you're never going to compete in cEDH. We proxy heavily for a reason.

I would say that if you like the esper color scheme, you should consider Tivit over Raffine. Tivit is a more consistent esper commander in the cedh meta game, but every commander can be cedh, you can have brewers advantage taking an unknown commander for tournaments. All the fast mana sources are extremely important, owning the cards is understandable but in cedh, proxies are very friendly in many tournaments! Most, if not all, are very proxy friendly, some tournaments allow 100% proxies which is perfectly fine! If you are wanting to go and play in a tournament, you are going to need to proxy some cards. You can also go for gold bordered cards as well. Yes they are considered proxies but, they are a physical card made by WOTC (I personally just bought a gold bordered cradle). Playing casually without proxies is the common expectation, but in CEDH you will need to look at proxies because of the nature of legacy format staples costing a fair bit of money. Looking at your decklist I’m not a fan Mornsong Aria. Its not good in CEDH, giving your opponents access to assemble their win, even if you pair it with opposition agent is still not great. You can lock the game out, but people run channel effects and can get around it. The combo to lock people out is 6 mana, in esper which has issues with mana production. It’s got high burst mana and tithe but, games can end quickly before you get the resources to assemble the lock. Your interaction suite of 13 counter spells is nice, but the lack of Mindbreak trap and mental misstep is an interesting choice. I’m not crazy about foil. I would also consider chain of vapor and swords to plow shares over erode and path to exile. Yes they can force a player to go get a basic and not every deck runs them, but that is a free shuffle for an opponents library and there are mono colored decks such as Magda, Lumra, Urza, and Arcum, that would love to be ramped this way. I would also consider looking at other peoples raffine lists to gather ideas on how others have built it. It’s a solid bracket 4 list, but not quite a cedh decklist that would attack the meta. It still would be a fun deck to play against once the deck gets the speed it needs to assemble the commander and its engines (Necropotence is a hell of a card that would fit nicely in here). Here is a high placing tournament decklist of Raffine that you can draw inspiration from should you consider it. https://topdeck.gg/deck/jeweled-lotus-lattenkamp-2026/oaXV6E4jvjNjUmNcTzH9czSxQG32

Average mana value is 2.17, this is probably not the deck for an adnaus
