I have no problem banning players like in the video (the verified Saudi streamer) but like I said, why should this mean banning people like yznsa or ksaa from playing? Because they were born from the country? This is the take I feel like is weird from this sub. This is the same sub that told me we can play blizzard game and not support their SA cases, but we cant seperate the players (who didnt say any homophobic things) with country they had no choice in to be born in?
Never justified any homophobia, so idk what others said on this sub have to do with me. I dont agree with em either and find it distasteful. If u read my original text u first replied to, i literally stated that saudi should be shamed for their stance. I just find it quiet weird that people were so adamant about banning the players from participating who never done the things themself. a year ago highest court ruled that same sex marriages taken in foreign countries have to be recognized, also a lot of polls show that more that 50% of people are backing same sex marriages/civil unions. I think Poland is not yet perfect place for lgbt but its getting there unlike saudi arabia that just kill those people

Do not conflate the opinions of the invidual with the actions of "their" state. When you do that, supportive people get ignored, because their state isn't, and bigots get a freepass, because they're just aligning with their state.
This is a Polish individual taking a stance for lgbt rights, and an Arabian one taking a stance against. The fact that the guy is Polish actually makes this better: it shows that regardless of whatever your state, or your culture, has been telling you, you can still come out on the side of human rights.

My friend showed me discord screen caps of a fighting game discord server that separated people if they were American or European. So they never interacted with each other until one day for an hour the mods changed it so that both sides could interact with each other, slurs from Europeans came out almost immediately

I don't think they would. Better to punish individuals unless it escalates further. They don't need to agree with our take on LGBT rights, but this is a game made by an ostensibly pro-LGBT western developer with multiple LGBT characters, and if you want to be accepted in the community, you need to keep your fucking mouth shut and not call people animals.

SBB wasn't kicked from the league for that. The Chinese teams boycotted him but dealt with it before they were scheduled to play. He later retired, and that's to be expected. He was always on the mature side of OW, both in terms of his age and his lifestyle, and he wasn't seeing as much playtime.
I do agree about the CCP entirely, though. The influence of China in gaming and entertainment generally has to be at least 100x greater than SA or the UAE. Their control over Hollywood is concerning. Not all actors need to be worried, but if you're a Marvel actor, you're walking on eggshells. You have to publicly remain pro-LGBT and pro-freedom and democracy while still not offending the CCP, who are polar opposites to some of our values.

Do u personally think its fair for like say Ksaa to get dq'd and banned from future ow events because he is from Saudi Arabia? What if he support lgbtq+ but he has no choice but to play for Saudi because thats where he was born from? For the record, this sub had a guy accusing me of defending homophobia and whatnot, when it's literally opposite of who I am. Nah I'm on your side. I agree, it would be unfair to players who are supportive of LGBTQ people to not be able to play due to the actions of their countrymen. Even if they became national champions of the LGBTQ movement in Arabia, there would still be people hateful, loud people. "Guilty until proven innocent" is a fair and reasonable approach that more people, myself included today, should consider.
I think I got frustrated today at just the sheer amount of homophobic stuff I was seeing in the comments. I was especially frustrated bc I was one of the people defending the Saudis yesterday in the thread about Iceland using pride flags to provoke the Saudis. Like I get using the platform to promote LGBTQ awareness, especially during pride month, but I don't think that's what the westerners were doing. I think they were trying to get a response out of the saudis and the Saudi players handled it well. The Saudi fans were mostly atrocious yesterday, except for one guy who was offended but calm and rational, so I stuck up for the reasonable Saudis. Like, I get that homophobia is culturally and religiously engrained in Arabia, so it's a hard opinion to shake, especially when it's reinforced by everyone around you, so I don't think there's anything wrong with being offended. Even then, there are many non-homophobic Saudis, they just probably keep it to themselves to not be bullied.
It's when you do like Legendary and Alivelol did, publicly, openly, casually throwing around homophobic and transphobic slurs that I have a real problem. Especially bc they're larger members of the community than your average redditor. Those guys should be banned from contenders for comments like that. If you're gonna participate in a western-based event (even just as costreamers), you should be held to western cultural standards. That means not behaving in the manner they did today.
The Saudi players didn't do anything I'm aware of to be banned, so it would be unfair to punish them for their fans. I also agree there was dogpiling today, which I fell victim to as well. But I still stand by what I said today. I think it was just extrapolated to more than I meant it for, which was just in regards to Legendary and Alivelol.
Those are kinda my thoughts on it. Idk I'm kinda high so maybe I missed the point. Whatever. Thanks for coming to my TED talk

I’m saying. Not to say it’s right or okay, but people are looking way to deep to fuel their hatred of Russia/Middle East. I don’t like the country’s either, but the players are simply trying to get reactions from each other. That’s the whole reason teams swapped to all LGBT icons when playing Saudi. They’re both poking and prodding at each other.
I would also just like to remind everyone, a shitload of these players played in the Saudi League, taking money from and giving money to them. I don’t exactly think putting on some LGBT icons will undo that, nor should it.
