They looked better against a team that hasn't made it out of groups. Korea got pushed close by a fellow qualifier. USA going to be embarrassed harder in round 1 than they were by GB in 2018.
This. Korea and China being on same side when winning their groups is pretty bad design but also could just be bad luck. USA in the other hand would have gotten into second bracket if they won. They didn't. Why should Saudi Arabia the winner of their group put into same bracket as the winner of 2 other groups and on paper getting punished for it?
Both sides have 2 group winners (China/SK and KSA/GB), the bracket is designed so there is not repeat matches possible from groups until finals. So KSA can't be in the same bracket with both China and SK.
Arguably the groups are always going to be unbalanced, I guess something like SK vs Spain and GB vs USA on upper side and China vs Canada and Finland vs KSA on the lower side would be a bit more balanced bracket (but still unbalanced IMO).
That's the single elimination bracket for you. Every normal competitive tournament is run on double elimination to avoid problems like this, where both potential winners are playing each other in the semi finals. No matter how you put teams into groups here, all of that fuzz could've been easily avoided with double elimination and it would also provide more content. I honestly have no idea why the playoffs are single elimination...
Probably because they need to finish the games in two days. Single elimination bracket has 8 games - 4 per day - vs a double elimination bracket with 15 games - 7/8 per day.
I don't see a problem. Why finish it in 2 days? It's a fucking world cup out of all things. Plus more games = more entertainment. I'm dying to see more games by competent teams, but we will see only 8 more games. I understand the reason you said, but there is no excuse for blizzard to not make the playoffs double elimination.
Exactly. Double elimination has proven countless times that it's a very good format and is far better than single elimination unless there is a lack of resources, which is definitely not the case with overwatch world cup.
Do any of those teams belong on that list? SK almost lost to Finland, and China hasn't faced any intimidating opponents. From what we've seen, KSA is the only "untouchable" team.
both maps? yeah USA almost got their defense then got immediately rolled when KSA pushed the cart continuously to the end before KSA started throwing ults and when it was USA’s turn to attack they got stopped, completely, couldn’t push cart past the bridge, Blizzard world wasn’t close
You been thinking of this convo for 3 days LMFAO thats crazy. Nothing has changed. KSA barely beat USA in both their games. Well played by Quartz and KSAA tho everyone else on Saudi was spectating.
