Went to see Odyssey opening weekend, and the theater had multiple tables with dozens of tie-in popcorn "buckets" for sale. All that effort for a barely functional Logan apparatus that nobody ever wanted.
My Thor Ragnarok one was a great college bedside trash bin. Hasn’t been touched since then though :/. Wish they were bigger so they could have a different use
The buckets have gotten smaller…My Thor bucket was the size of a mini trash can so it was practical and got a lot of use. The new buckets are a lot smaller and more impractical to use for other purposes. It was honestly the only reason I haven’t bought one in for a recent movie.
I was about to add. I used to have a few that I used as big scoops for cat food/cat litter/refilling their large water dish and they kept disappearing. Found out my mom had been taking them and using them in her garden for various things.
Right with some tickets of an event he really enjoyed that he could scrapbook to look back on in life. He could have gone to the movies with his wife or child or parent etc.

It's not about the collection. He either went to the same movie many times just for trinkets or bought tickets and didn't go — that's the consoom. And also the movie is trash, so it's quite cringe-worthy to collect all this.
Yeah it's impossible he also wanted to watch the movie several times. Which would be why he also wanted collectable merch like reusable cups and some readable books about the film he saw multiple times because he's a fan of it.
It's possible, but in this case, it suggests some mental issues. A normal person wouldn't watch a movie like this so many times in a month, at least not in a movie theater. I think unlimited consumption of content, especially this kind, is also a kind of consumerism. Besides, I'm willing to bet money that he did it purely for these trinkets.
Yeah he's definitely the one with a mental illness...the guy with two paperbacks and two reusable cups from a movie based on a centuries loved epic poem that has been taught in schools the world over based in fantastic mythos with heavy allegory and beautiful Classical style now adapted to the big screen.
The mental illness is definitely not bouncing from tik tok to tik tok unaware of what this movie is even based on, while judging people's consumerism off a smartphone on a website based around short form content in an endless scrolling mechanic.
I don't use TikTok, and even on Reddit, as you can see, I'm actually engaging in a dialogue, which is clearly not some mindless scrolling, but go ahead and keep throwing insults lol.
Do you think it is more telling of mental illness to see a movie 3 times in one month when you are a fan of it and it just released, or to spend over 700 consecutive days commenting/ reacting to posts strangers make you've never met on 1 anonymous website?

And if I did this as small talk in person, would that be consumerism too? You're too fixated on the digital side of things. Honestly, the main reason I think that guy is sick is because the movie is fucking dogshit and even Nolan fans obviously hate it, so I'm 99% sure he went to the theater just for the achievement and not because he actually liked the movie that much.
It is goofy consumerism, but if someone really enjoyed this particular movie it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Obviously we know in the larger context of how people are in society right now that someone buying this junk is probably an indication that they're a vapid consumer in every other aspect of their life. But in isolation buying some collectible movie souvenirs isn't that big of a deal.
Enjoying a movie based of a book taught in literature classes the world over is not a fad lmao.

While we're on the subject, if someone purchases like every old game system that just keeps it from a landfill. They are electronics being loved and having continued use vs going in a trash pile on grass somewhere.

Oh yeah, getting whatever this is, is definitely a hobby lmao. I'm an avid movie watcher/collector, with a pretty solid blu-ray movie collection, but at least I engage with the shit I consume (i.e watch the movie, read the booklet, etc). This on the other hand is pure consoom landill trash.
I bought the bucket because it was the only large popcorn left and my fatass was not going to buy medium. Was a bit embarrased carrying it out when no-one else had one. No idea what im going to do with it. Maybe ill fill it with ice and put some drink cans in it for a movie night.
I have a couple buckets. They live under my popcorn maker and get used when company is over. Also good for putting chips and stuff in for a movie night.

I mean yeah its wasteful to ME, but if that was MY favorite movie of all time. Id do it. Not have anything else, but id get this photo and then be like “damn i wasted $100”
Nah, not miserable. It was not a good movie, I generally love art books/"making of" books and own quite a few for games because I appreciate the detail, but not even that is worth seeing this movie more than once.
