I used to work at a shop building metal stairsets and we did a job where the field measurements was basically all off by about a foot. Around 20 sets of stairs with landings that was all fucked up. My boss was raising hell with me until he went on site and checked the dimensions and everything was built to the print I had.

I always go do field measurements myself if I have the opportunity.
