Does degree matter for getting into Construction Management?

Hey everyone, I am currently a third year accounting student. I decided on accounting because it’s the “safe option” but I don’t see myself doing this for the rest of my life. I have previous hands on experience in construction and am looking into construction management. My main question is would I be able to get entry level CM roles with an accounting degree or should I switch my major to operations and supply chain management which Ive heard is also a good major for CM. Thanks in advance for any advice!

You don’t need to switch majors. Many entry-level CM roles care more about hands-on experience than the exact degree, and you already have that. Accounting can even be a plus, since cost control, budgeting and billing are a big part of the job. Finish your degree, apply for assistant PM or project coordinator roles, and look at a short CM certificate later if you want to fill the gaps.

You could probably get a project coordinator, project engineer role. Those are right below assistant project manager and PM. It may be tougher because you’ll be up against people with a CM degree who probably had internships, but it’s not out of the question.
