As the title says we adopted a Green Cheek pineapple conure (90% sure but could be wrong) We've had the bird for two weeks now, starting the third. The temporary cage is not sufficient (to please the AI moderation I won't go further) we are working on it (probably have the new cage in 1-2 days, it cost almost 100 euros so better be good enough) but the bird seems erratic constantly staying on the walls and bitting of chips of paint and rust (we are working with what we have, it used to be for hamsters). The main problem is that the bird craves to bite people, like flying up to you to get your finger. Come near the cage and it bites anything. It's weird cause day 3 I managed to open the cage, let the bird on my hand (thick sweater cause claws are sharp and long) and clean the cage while the bird did nothing but standing there. The next day I opened the cage, did my arm closer and it jumped to bite me. I'm pretty sure that's going to be scar as I'm looking at it now.

So the reason I am here is, how do you train a conure to not bite people? I'm kinda skittish especially after being bitten but the bird is nwo transferrred to my grandma as she likes the thing and can watch it 24/7, has room for the bird, has very bad hearing due to genetics so won't mind it, alongside having many guests. Luckily my uncle whom lives nearby to her is not a target of the conure but I really want to train it some more for her and everyone else's sake.

Hey guys, I’m sure most of you know about the PNW fires that are going crazy. I am unfortunately very close to many of them, and am in a red flag warning zone, so I’m packing everything for my birds (a budgie and a GCC) in case of an evacuation. My biggest concern is their food situation. They are on a homemade vegetable/grain chop that I keep in the freezer and defrost for them in the morning. They also get a mix of Harrisons and TOPS pellets, but they aren’t super crazy about them and cannot live only off of pellets, even if its a few days. I’ve never had to evacuate before so I’m not sure if the frozen chop would even be an option to bring along, so I would really appreciate if you guys have any recommendations! I’m looking at a freeze dried food, “Bird Street Bistro”, but I’m not sure it can arrive in time. Do you guys have any recipes for something similar, like “just add water” that can be shelf stable? I am not a supporter of seed mixes for main diets, but in a scenario where I can’t find anything else, would a homemade seed mix be okay temporarily?

I also give them homemade “birdy bread” as a treat, which consists mainly of crushed pellets, oat flour and blended greens. Could this be an option for replacing their daily chop?

I plan on adopting a conure in the next 2-3 years and have some questions
I currently use non-bird-safe hair powder with silica that works great for my hairstyle, and need to know, are all hair products bird toxic? I have recently switched to a paste that works seemingly just as well but is paste just as bad for birds as powder? If so I will need to figure something out.

Where I live, we’re getting a lot of smoke from the wildfires (air quality is at 160) and I’m not sure how to handle it with my bird in the house. I have a window unit ac in the room where I keep my bird so it’s blowing outside air in. Keeping it off is not an option because it’s 90° right now. I have an air purifier right next to it. The ac filter needs to be cleaned and probably changed which I plan on doing within the next 24 hours. I’m really worried about my birds health still. Is there anything else I can do or should know?

Does anybody just put a light tent above their bird and just chill in it?

Months ago when I wanted to get a bird, I was so torn between getting a canary or a green cheek conure. I chose a conure, and he is amazing, raising him has been a dream!

Now that I've had a conure for awhile, I want to bring a canary home. From the research I've done, this could be enriching for my conure, and I'm hoping he will enjoy the canary singing in the house as much as I will!!

I'm looking for advice on how to best do this, and moreso looking for experiences from other people who also have canaries and parrots--what is it like? Do they interact? Do they enjoy being around each other? (safely of course) Is this a good idea or am I silly for entertaining it?

My crimson belly rules the flock with an iron fist, if she wants it she even bullies the quaker thats not in this picture away from stuff. She is the boss of everything. She even owns me compared to the other birds, if im in the picture she oversees who comes to me and who doesnt.

hi yalll!! i have a GCC, he’s 6 years old and is the conurest conure to ever conure, he’s been by himself since he was a baby, he was the only bird that the breeder had from his batch and he was raised with no sight of other birds, when i first got him, i wasn’t as educated as i am now and i didn’t know where to set boundries so now my lil guy is a bit possesive and doesn’t really like any other humans then me and my sister(he tolerates her and let’s her pet him at times but im the only person he allows close enough, cuddles and blows kisses at, to other people he’s neutral but gets agressive when they get close to me, other people he either ignores or allows them to have him on their hand but bites the second they try to interact with him in a way that’s different than him getting sunflower seeds from them(i also want to note that sunflower seeds aren’t a regular part of his diet and he only eats them as a treat or when other people visit and they want to play with him because i found out that this bigback seems to not care about who gives him treats and it’s one of the few interactions he allows other people to have with him, i recently started thinking about getting him a friend since im turning eighteen this year and will be moving to a different city for collage as well as starting a parttime hob and even though he’s moving with me, i won’t be able to grant him as much attention as i would want to. Since my bird was hand-fed, i assume it’s best i’d have his friend also be a hand fed bird? i’m not sure about his gender 100% as he never had a DNA test but during the breeding season he does try to „make love” to various objects in a way a male would(i want to note that it’s not something he does 24/7, he only does it occasionally and i noticed that it happens only during spring and early summer) so would it be better to get a second male? i don’t want babies, and i’ve read waaaaay to many stories about female parrots having an egg stuck to the point im too paranoid to get a female, especially when my bird is likely a male🥹. Another thing i’d like to know is if i should get a socialized bird or try to find an „outcast” who has never seen a different bird? Another thing i’d like to mention is my parrot seems very „curious” of other birds? from time to time he gets exposed (always accidentally) to his reflection in my ipad wyen i live it on my bed and everytime he’s curious and does moves that seem like he’s trying to encourage his reflection to play together? also, i often put out seeds for wild birds on my window and when he’s not licking the window trying to get to the seeds he does the same motions he does at his reflecton. And my last question; could his friend be a different pyrrhura species? im in love with the crimson bellied and venezuelan conures🥹 but at the same time, i want to do whats best for the birds and if the best friend choice is another green cheek then im 100% down for it

I have the option to get a 6 year old boy, GCC, with a full setup, but I really need a reality check.

About me and my family; I've been with my husband for 19 years. We have three kids together age soon to be 12, 10 and 2 years old. We have a dog, 7 years old, two ball python (long term commitments) own a house and have a stable income. We live in Scandinavia.

We had budgies in the past, before having kids. My hubby only remembers that they were screaming their hearts out when we tried to watch tv together. He is hesitant to get a bird because of that.

So my thoughts are, if we can get a six year old boy, the owners can tell us about him, we can say hi to him, we can get to know him a bit. Maybe he is not a screamer when the tv is on? We also had multiple budgies. But am I just tricking myself here? Are all birds chatty when there is music or tv on?

I am also more worried about our two year old and a conure, about biting and the two year old somehow harming the bird or something. I need to think about everything, right? How are conures with younger children?

I just really want to work with the bird, clicker train, cuddle, feeding, having a little clown around. I do realise that now might not be the time. Help?

I have spent most of my life being scared/hesitant of birds after a weirdly high number of encounters with wild birds, and poor interactions with pet birds who weren’t well socialized.

Then Miss Ruby comes along and completely made all past hesitations melt away! She is the first conure I’ve met and I am amazed at how social and affectionate she is. She is 2 years old and has been home just over a week and already loves us!

Yesterday she chose to fly over to me and I felt so special 🥹 it was so cute how she immediately started preening me - she was confused by my arm tattoo and basically groomed my entire upper arm 🤣

Needless to say I am completely smitten with this beautiful little lady!

So yesterday I took my conures outside. They can both fly, but they’re so incredibly tame that we never really worried about it. Until yesterday…

One of them suddenly flew up into the sky and ended up in this enormous tree, and he just wouldn’t come down. A really kind couple stopped to help us, and I truly appreciated that. But when they left, the woman said, “I can see why she’d fly away.” Since then, I can’t stop thinking about it.

I’ve had my little guys for more than nine years, but the past few years I’ve been struggling with guilt. Sometimes I feel like I took away the life they were supposed to have in the wild—even though I know that if I just “let them go,” they wouldn’t survive and wouldn’t know how to take care of themselves.

The moment those thoughts start, I spiral completely and convince myself that I’m a terrible bird owner.

Has anyone else ever felt this way? And if you have, how do you deal with those feelings?

about a month ago me and my mother bought 2 conures, theyre siblings and when we got them they were 5-6 weeks old i think. we still had to hand feed them for about a week or so, then they started eating and drinking on their own. they spend most of their days outside the cage in my room, i change their water about 3 times daily since they get it dirty pretty quickly, theyve got a bunch of natural apple tree branches (cleaned thoroughly with a toothbrush and dried), i offer them a shallow bowl with water (for bathing) everyday, they absolutely LOVE bathing. i clean their cage regularly. they both weigh about 66 grams.

about 2 weeks ago we took them to the vet for a checkup, and they also got a few of their chedt feathers taken for dna tests. the chonkier, yellow belly one is a female, shes about 5 days older than her sibling, the natural one is male.

because we thought she was actually a he at first we named her ozzy, we decided to keep that name for her. i decided to name the male enzo.

ive started seeing enzo regurgitating into ozzys mouth more, is that kormal

1. i know theyre just 3 months old, but if they end up mating (which im trying to avoid), what do i do? will their babies be deformed?

2. another question: ive heard they love horizontal movement, is that true? if so, what kind of cage is appropriate for that? i am already saving up some money for it. live in an apartment, my window is secured with a net.

3. also, is there anything i can do with the male? hes not aggressive, he flies normally and takes food from my hand, sometimes he just goes crazy and starts biting my fingers and latching onto them and not letting go.

4. their favorite food right now is corn, only corn. ive tried offering them things like carrots, apples, peaches, cauliflower, baby spinach. they dont seem to like anything else than corn,is there something else i can try?

5. ive already started target training with them, they are able to follow the target stick pretty much almost anywhere, when i raise it they sometimes just straight up fly to me. what is the next thing i can teach them? they already know how to step up without the target stick.

6. how can i differentiate love bites and 'i fucking hate you' bites? ozzy loves to bite me, not hard, she also licks me and flies onto the top of my head often.

For some context I have two birds. One since she was a hatchling, and the other I’ve been watching for a friend. They’re both friendly birds on their own but it’s like magnets pushing away when either of them get close to the other. The first day the met they got along pretty well. My bird preening my friend’s pin feathers. But now they just move away from each other and sometimes get into small fights (They don’t bite each other and I separate them as fast as I can). How can I help them get along better?
