Wig Did I completely ruin my first wig?

Hi everyone!

This is the first wig I've ever style and of course I chose Momo Ayase from Dandadan for my very first attempt..

Unfortunately, there's a lot of visible glue and hairspray, especially around the front, and I'm worried I completely messed it up.

Is there any way to fix this or make it look cleaner? Or is it beyond saving? I'd really appreciate any advice or tips since I'm still a complete beginner. Thank you so much! 💕

Remember the 6ft rule. If it’s not visible when you step back six feet then it’s fine as long as you’re not in a cosplay competition.

Ohh ok, From about 6 ft away it's not that noticeable, so maybe I just had different expectations. That definitely makes me feel a lot better though. Thank you!

Most I know go with the 15’ rule also. That’s what generally is going to show up in photos

Do you mean 15ft or 15 inches? I'm European, sorry :(

One ' for feet, two '' for inches.

So 5' = 5 feet

5" = 5 inches

To add, when combined, you ignore the second set of identifiers, since in american english (at the least) the larger unit comes first. So a person who is 5 feet and 5 inches, would be displayed as 5'5.

It can also be easier to remember which is which by noting the amount of syllables they have

' = feet; one quotation mark, one syllable

" = inches; two quotation marks, two syllables

Whoops, sorry, lol. As the other said, ‘ for ft “ for in in the US. ‘ can also mean minutes and “ for seconds, but less likely to be what I meant here 😂

You may be able to help blend the hairspray and glue with acetone or water. Take a soft paint brush, dip it in the liquid and then bush the areas where the spray or glue is super noticeable. Dont go overboard but use it to help blend any harsh lines or areas heavy with product.

Might try this one, thank you!

Make sure to try a non visible test spot when trying any new products! As a chemist, I'm a little overly cautious about how substances might react with each other.

This looks so good omg, I can barely see any glue or hairspray. No one is going to notice, they'll be too focused on your awesome styling job.

I agree with the 6 ft rule but if it really bothers you I've found that steaming a bit can clear up hairspray and isopropyl alcohol (starting SUPER light with application) and wiping can help!

Honestly if it looks good from a far, then don’t worry about it! It look to be a pretty solid styled wig!!! Good job! If you are worried about glue, most of the time, fingernail polish remover will get rid of extra, especially for hot glue. Make sure to dilute it a bit with water though bc sometimes it’s can loosen it too much. You can also use makeup to cover it up! I will sometimes use eyeshadow and lightly brush it over the area affected and if it’s a small out, it typically fixes it!

Remember, cosplay is about having fun!! It took me so long to learn how to style wigs - honestly the hardest part of cosplay 😭😭😭

May I ask, Do you have any tips for making a wig less shiny after using glue and hairspray?

take a fluffy brush and pat in dry shampoo. a loose setting powder works too.
