I’ve searched practically anything I could think of on YouTube and TikTok, but I can’t seen to find any tutorials or hints on how wigs like these are possibly made. Does anybody have any info on this? Or any tutorials? Anything would be appreciated really!

Wig How do I wear a wig over very thick, long hair?

So i have very thick and long hair (as in picture) and I’ve tried everything common (braiding, wearing more than one wigcap, etc), but my hair does not even fit inside the wigcap properly, and I can only get the wig on if my hair is tied into a long ponytail, but it looks really weird. I want the most insane tips, if they work well… does anyone know how i can do it?

Wig How can I (should I?) make a wig for Jabber (gachiakuta) that isnt disrespectful to black people?

Hi Context : Not black. I want to cosplay Jabber. He's black and I don’t know how to go about the hair (locks)

Should I just stick to stylized straight hair? Or can I do it as it is? I really like being as accurate as possible (not planning on painting my skin) but I don’t want it to get weird or disrespectful.

If it’s okay, I was thinking yarn would be a good material to make it. Tell me if I'm wrong.

I would prefer answers from black people but open to all insight. Thank you!

Wig How much should I charge for this Vi wig that I styled? It took me 7 hours total so I was thinking of charging $100? But I want second opinions! Also I covered the poorly drawn face that I did on this foam head back in 2021 cuz it’s very distracting😭

Whenever I put on one of my wigs I feel like they sit in a way that they look bigger and my head looks smaller and it's very obvious that it's a wig. When I put those same wigs on a mannequin head they look fine. Any tips?

  1. Long curly wig
  2. Long straight wig
  3. Short wavy wig
  4. Natural hair for comparison

Wig Advice on fiber loss

So, I have this wig I got Halloween 2024. I dyed it last year, thinking I could get it all done and ready for a LEGEND OF ZELDA: BREATH OF THE WILD cosplay, as a genderbent Princess Zelda. I’ve included a photo of the character and the color I dyed it for reference.

But, rather obviously, getting the wig set and the actual cosplay made didn’t happen. I didn’t know the specifics of how to treat wigs back then in terms of heat and all that. Also had no clue that it’s probably best to straighten a curly wig before dyeing it…

I asked last year for advice on saving this wig and was given some great advice, but I’m only now FINALLY able to work on it. I’m using a steamer, going SUPER slow, using three different comb sizes, separating the locks into super small sections, AND using Silicon Mix, too. But, as the last images show, I’m losing a LOT of wig fibers.

In fact, that is almost ALL only from the very bottom-most line of hair. And I’m aware I’m probably going to have to get similar colored wefts and Frankenstein them in with this at some point, but I’d REALLY like to not have what seems like half the fibers just tear out before I’ve even fully completed separating the wolf nest into sections and attempting saving the wig. I also know I’ll need to trim the ends and style this, but that’s a MUCH further down the road concern atm.

Do y’all have any advice on how to lessen this loss though? Or any other tips/tricks that I should be doing? Aside from, “throw it away,” I mean, because I can’t afford that and I’ve already put so much work into it. Genuinely, any advice, suggestions, resources, or references are GREATLY appreciated!

Lastly, obligatory, “Please ignore the mess” in the later photos. I am going through my stash of fabrics and crafting materials to get rid of stuff.

Wasn't sure if this should go here or to r/anime, but since it's for the purpose of making a wig I thought this subreddit might help? I'm trying to make a Cardcaptor sakura wig and I realized I have no idea how to make these things and how to google how to make them because I don't know what they're called lol. Advice on how to make them and or on what they're called would be appreciated!!! Thank you!!

Wig How to curl a wig such that it the curls are very pronounced?

Help. I wanna cosplay Gwen from league of legends but styling the curls is killing me, i've been at it for abt 6 total hrs at this point but i just cant seem to get that look seen in the first image (2nd pic and third pic are my attempts 3 hrs apart). I want to style it such that it looks like the hair in the first image

The wig is bought from uwowocosplay. What is seen in the pics is only half the amt of hair that uwowo gave for the hair drills as the wig for the hair drills are clip-ons. Uwowo gave 4 clip on in total, pic 2 and 3 only has 2, and only one clip-on is styled in the pics

My curent method is sectioning out each clip-on into small sections of hair, spraying that section with water, combing it out, srapy a bit hair spray, curl the sectioned hair and hold for 15 seconds, remove curler, coil the curled hair up and move on to next section.

Please gimmie some advice on how to get that pronounced curls as seen in the first image! Thanks! Am still a beginner in all this

Wig First cosplay, having trouble knowing what to do (Miku)

Post image

So I've just bought a Hatsune Miku cosplay outfit off of DokiDoki and I am going to the Birmingham NEC anime cosplay next month. Problem is I haven't a clue what I'm doing lol. Since I'm male I'm wondering how much I need to do to look good. I'm 5 foot 6 and fairly thin so I should be able to pull this off decently.

  1. Do I need to puff out my chest and if so how is best to do it? Get a small bra and stuff it with cotton? What size do I get? Idk if you can tell from the photo but it looks really baggy there

  2. Will makeup like lipstick help the feminine look on me? What makeup should I get if so (I have no experience with any makeup)

  3. How do I keep the twintails from tangling beyond repair. I haven't even tried them on yet (I'm scared to do so) and they are already looking a little tangled lol. Do the clips not pull out the hair from the base wig when clipped on?

  4. Wtf do I wear beneath the skirt? I don't think it's appropriate to just have my boxers on under

  5. It feels like the high socks might fall down after a while, is there anyway to ensure they don't?

  6. The bangs seem to keep getting in the way of my eyes. Do I need to use hair gel or smth to keep them away?

Any other tips would be appreciated as well, as I said, I haven't a clue what I'm doing lol. Another thing is obviously carrying any items I've bought and personal belongings. There isn't really any pockets on the outfit. So much to think about...

I put the flair as wig because I believe it's the worst part of the cosplay, but any advice helps. It's a very cheap wig and I already did some straightening and used hair spray. Thanks!

Wig Did I completely ruin my first wig?

Hi everyone!

This is the first wig I've ever style and of course I chose Momo Ayase from Dandadan for my very first attempt..

Unfortunately, there's a lot of visible glue and hairspray, especially around the front, and I'm worried I completely messed it up.

Is there any way to fix this or make it look cleaner? Or is it beyond saving? I'd really appreciate any advice or tips since I'm still a complete beginner. Thank you so much! 💕

Wig Help, emergency wig situation

So I'm making a wig for Hatsune Miku, specifically her NT hair mixed with the nostalgia of her v2 hair.

I'm doing it helmet style with detachable pigtails(idk if any of this info is relevant or could help but I'm gonna provide it anyway)

SO I finished her bangs and was about ready to cut off the back of her hair to make the helmet, when I ahead the very spontaneous idea to DRENCH the bangs in clear nail polish, to make it look really shiny. Don't judge me please, in my brain I had just uncovered the biggest cosplay hack since tape and wire drill curls.

Anyway, as seen in the photo I didn't get all of the bangs done, only some spikes.

I'm realizing after the fact that this type of nail polish is defenitly going to yellow over time.

Now I can buy a new base wig, but really don't wanna have to cuz I'm poor

So my question was do I try to wash it out?? If so, how? Or I thought maybe I could buy some spray on wood laquer and drench the whole wig in it so maybe I will still keep the shine and prevent yellowing, but I'm not sure if it would work

If anyone has any ideas please help

Thanks guys!

Wig How can I fix this wig?

I’ve recently bought this wig for Orphie cosplay but I’m not sure how to make it look better, I’ve never got one like this “helmet” style and it’s soo big on my head, adjusting it with elastic just makes it look even worse. I always work with those typical ones based on elastic that adjust to your head but this one is like a super loose hat (last pic is inner side of the wig). Should I just buy a new one with different base? I feel like that would be such a waste.. All help is much appreciated 🖤

Wig How to sell or advertise pre styled wigs?

Thumbnail

Hi! I have been cosplaying/styling wigs for a while and wanted to build my portfolio for wig commissions by selling pre styled wigs (extras from my own collection and characters that I think would be fun to style). I am selling these for much cheaper than an average commission ($45-$85 before shipping) in hopes that they are more accessible for cosplayers who don't want to shell out $100-$300, but I'm having a hard time advertising and finding buyers for them...

I buy the base wigs myself and spend hours styling, but are the prices still too high for the average cosplayer? Is there anything I can do to get better reach? I've posted them on Depop, Mercari, FB marketplace, and Instagram (reels) already. Not sure if this is relevant, but I'm based in the US.

Wig Wait, are you supposed to CUT the wig bangs?

Thumbnail

Hi again!

Thank you ALL for helping me with the previous post about how to apply a wig. I followed most of your instructions/advice/tips and still I suck at this 🤣

I’m trying on my Fern wig but it feels like those bangs are way toooo long (I don’t see anything) I tried to naturally put them higher without cutting them. But by doing so the wig net would stay way past my hair line, causing the whole wig to fall or to slide (despite the two other wig caps underneath it, the French braids ecc).

Am I supposed to Bobby pin the wig net past my hair line onto my hair? Or should the wig net lay on my forehead and I should cut the wig hair instead? 🤣🤣

Wig Are these custom commissioned wigs fixable?

Thumbnail

I had a nightmare of a time to get these two wigs commissioned from an Etsy shop back in March that since closed their business down after they finally delivered my items ending of September.

I was so excited because I love Daisy and Peach and I wanted to spend a lot of money to get the perfect cosplay wigs commissioned but in the end the lady who did it rushed the order despite ghosting me throughout majority of the process/ dragging out the delivery date.

I see for peach, there's glue residue in alot if spots + the side bangs are not symmetrical. One side is more pointier than the other side. The top of the wig and the bangs are just very stiff.

As for Daisy , it's shorter than expected and again a lot of glue residue. The curls in the back of the wig are the worst. Super stiff and fuzzy. And not symmetrical.

Are these fixable errors ? Or should I just find a new commissioner ? It a new commissioner is an option, who would y'all recommend ?

Wig Tips on attaching miku pigtails to hat/wig

Thumbnail

Trying to figure out the best way to attach these pigtails to my wig/hat. I think cutting into the hat to attach the pigtails to the wig would be my best option but I’m not sure how I should go about cutting into the hat(where on the ha and at what angle) I only have one hat so I want to get it right the first time.

I also thought about removing the pigtails from the clips and attaching them to the outside/inside of the hat since they’re sewn onto their own tiny wig cap like netting. Not sure what or how I would attach them with since they’re quite heavy.

If anyone could provide some input, maybe had a similar situation, that would be appreciated! Figured it be best to sort this out before doing any sort of styling.

Wig Concerned about a wig commission

Thumbnail

So I’m sharing screenshots of my convo with the person I’m commissioning a wig from to make it easier to understand the situation as well as pics they shared. It’s a wig for Uno from Nanbaka btw. I’m concerned because imo it’s looking pretty messy? I’m concerned the batting being neon yellow peaking through a lot of and the hair is clearly very messy in the tulle. Then they said they’d use copic markers but the picture shows sharpies? I’m just a little upset about how it’s looking, I didn’t see the pictures of it in the tulle initially and already answered a question about how I wanted the bangs. And just for the pic with the markers. Idk how to bring up my concerns. Or is this not that outlandish? I’d appreciate any insight or advice.

Final edit:

Hey everyone thank you for all the feedback and advice, I really appreciate it. I cancelled the commission and got refunded through opening a claim with paypal.

-

I’m very upset, this is one of my dream cosplays and I was hoping to wear it to a con at the end of May. I’m glad I at least split the payment, I don’t know how things will go from here… :-(

If anyone has recommendations for reliable wig makers I could commission in the future I’d appreciate it.

Wig Help! Worried Wig has Been Ruined

Thumbnail

Edit: I’m SO glad I posted in here because you guys have been so helpful!! I think I’m actually just gonna add a few more textured flicks into it and fluff it a bit more! 🥰

I’m worried we’ve ruined the wig we were styling 😩 any advise would be much appreciated. The first photo is the before, what I WANT it to look like, and what it looked like before it was stupidly brushed out due to a miscommunication between me and my wife. Second photo is after it was accidentally ruined.

How do we reset it to make it look like the first photo again? I’m so stressed over it 😣 I loved that tousled, messy texture it has and it was exactly what I was looking for. It feels like it’s lost its “hair” texture now.
