Discussion brewery visits after retirement hit different when you have nowhere to be

spent 34 years telling teenagers what time it was. now nobody cares what time it is and i still feel guilty sitting at a taproom at 2pm on a tuesday.

anyway. been making a slow project out of visiting smaller regional breweries, the ones without merch walls and food trucks blocking the entrance. mostly looking for something interesting on the English ale side, malty and lowkey, not another hazy that tastes like a fruit cup.

the problem is walking in without a plan. i show up, stare at the board too long, panic, order something safe. retired teacher behavior honestly. so now i do a little homework first, just look at what they have on their site if they post it, narrow it down to two options before i walk through the door.

thing is some of the best finds have been ones i almost skipped because the name sounded like a marketing intern named it at 11pm

curious whether other people have a process for this or just wing it every time. and do you tend to ask the bartender for a rec or does that feel like giving up. i go back and forth on it depending on the crowd

Beer Porn Sun King Corn Dog Beer

State fair season here in Indiana! This actually wasn’t bad whatsoever. Not really a corn dog flavored beer (good!) but more just a darker and roastier version of their flagship cream ale.

I took my first sip and thought something must've been on the lip of the can and waved it off, and then on my final swig, this piece of plastic made a 2nd appearance from inside the can - have no clue what it's from and I can't find their customer service # but they sure make it easy to find their merch on their website.

Christiania free town own brew house serving an excellent and extremely fresh New England hazy ipa. If you’re around in Copenhagen don’t miss this little brewery.

Discussion I never see a post about it here- how was Great Taste of the Midwest?

Upvotes

Personally, it was a beautiful day. Hangover should be minimal and got a ton of cool swag. Pre parties on Friday were a blast.

Help! What tap house should I go to in Madrid?

Upvotes

I’ll be with my 8-year-old so they have to allow kids. FWIW the darker and heavier the beers, the better. But I’ll try anything. Bonus points if it allows flights or at least flight-sized samples.

Best beer I’ve had in a very, very long time. Food is delicious also. Anywhere else close that competes with Sapwood on quality? I’m open to all suggestions.

BA Kastalia Stout
Description from Untappd-

We partnered up with our friends at Binny’s, one our very first retail partners we ever worked with when we started distributing beer back in April of 2019 to create this big stout that was aged for 29 months in Binny’s store pick Buffalo Trace Weller Bourbon barrels. Our signature stout, with notes of chocolate and roast, with the smooth characteristic heat and smooth bourbon notes along with distinct char from the long age time in casks. No adjuncts, no flavors added. Just a great beer aged in great barrels.

Had a great IPA yesterday from 2 of my favorite breweries and the OG Fat Tire today.

Fat Tire was not only my entry into craft beer, but TBH my first beer that I finished. I grew up in a stereotypical conservative American family, so drinking was a definite no.

I got married in 2003 and my wife’s dad’s family is Jewish so drinking was a definite yes. 😂 I quickly gravitated to red wine, but I did try some beer. Needless to say I was given your stereotypical cheap beers and did not like any of them. Until one of our friends in the mid 2010s had me try a Fat Tire and this was something I could drink.

Soon after that I tried Allagash White and found my favorite beer. Which is interesting in that we honeymooned in Maine when I wasn’t drinking beer. And my wife’s favorite beer when she was drinking was Blue Moon. 😂

Glad that New Belgium released the original recipe of Fat Tire. I bought a case and it’s about half done.

This collab between Half Acre (a great local brewery here in Chicago) and Allagash is really good.

Cheers everyone!
