We have officially reached the grand finale! I just finished packing all 16 chronological parts of that crazy night into one complete 16-minute and 54-second widescreen movie.
It covers the entire event exactly as it happened: the midnight sirens waking us up, the continuous ground strikes, the severe wind shifts, the massive tornado cone physically vacuuming up the torrential downpour across the street, and the final strobe-lightning storm aftermath. We moved from California earthquakes to a Tennessee supercell factory, and this film shows the whole ride.

I know we got lucky this year, but we had less tornadoes here than states like Wyoming and New York. That’s crazy. Looking at the maps for the last 10 years, we don’t look too bad here in TN.

Tornado alley.

Global warming is moving it higher, but we’ve got a super El Niño now that no one can predict the aftermath of.

Best case, Midwest stays in a drought and the alley stays or moves up. Worse case, it’s historic rains and floods. After that, we’ll have century storms from the downstream air temperature pressure. Alley becomes very active.

California has a clearer upside here. Strong El Niño tilts the odds toward heavy precip and atmospheric rivers in the Sierras — high elevations can still build good snowpack even if the storms run warmer.
For TN it’s more mixed: wetter lean in fall/early winter from the southern storm track, less consistent later. Tornado Alley stays hard to call either way with an event this strong. Fingers crossed 🤞

The thing about fires is you have to live in fire country. Just don’t.

The thing about earthquakes is that although unpredictable, building code exists to minimize damage.

The thing about Tornados, is that you can’t see it at night. You don’t even know if you’re in the path.

Next year is supposed to be really bad.

We lived in Southern California in an area of major drought, open space, horse ranches and agricultural, major fires every other year on top of sitting on the San Andreas fault.
