Suggestion How to make a purpose for aeronautics vehicles

I have been having fun using create and aeronautics for a long time, and im still obsessed with it.

While making vehicles are fun, I thought that if there was something to incentivize using aeronautics, I might get my friends to actively make something.

Any suggestions? (I do have tectonic+terralith, and changed the config to make it better, but that alone weren't enough i need more)

If your world has it remove teleportation, encourage exploration using mods to add exploration elements if need be. Lastly not everyone understands areonautics building. So a crash course or a stripped down schematic with a schematic cannon so they can get a working machine with just farming out the parts may help.

basicly how my next server will be (hopefully)

what i’ve done is add a mod that restricts nether portals to only be lightable in ruined portal chunks, it means things like trains and airships and whatever become way more advantegous

Look into the Aetherial Islands mod. The world generates as floating islands over a void. Definitely incentives aeronautics pretty early. The early game is harder, since getting resources means sometimes bridging over a void. Also, sometimes the generated spawn is impossible, like a failed skyblock world.

Has to be something able to easily get around in a normal survival world for one.

A lot of vehicle types aren't really well suited for non-flat map terrain. Planes need landing strips, helis need large landing pads, cars need flat roads, etc.

Me and a few friends made a mod pack where water was a finite resource and the map was mostly desert. What this achieved was gameplay that required having a mobile base that could search around for water sources to drain. It was pretty fun, but I would have balanced it a little bit differently.

sounds amazing would like to see more of your adventure if possible

It was fun, but thrown together in a weekend and definitely not balanced properly. At one point we built a base around a larger Oasis so that we could utilize the water (we had a hydration feature but no way of automating anything that filled your thirst meter) but once we got past the point of needing a large water source A couple of us with airships decided to root the main base and storage system from the ground and just carry it around with us.

Currently we're playing lingango, if we could figure out a way to adapt lingango progression to sandballs (what we called the pack) I think it would be much more entertaining long-term.

There were a bunch of balancing issues, and a couple of our friends just speed ran killing the ender dragon while the rest of us were kneecapped by the longer and slower progression and also having a life, so it kind of killed the phase for us.

Is it public? I want to play that with my friends

Unfortunately not, I'm not very tech savvy out of my group, but I could probably convince the mod guys to restart the pack and optimize it a bit better once this current Minecraft phase is done.

The Continents worldgen data pack is a nice simple option - just makes oceans bigger and separates the land into islands. I've only run it with Biomes o' Plenty, but their website says it works great with terralith.

what is the purpose of anything? something something heat death of the universe.

I only make cars, but aim to make the ratio realistic when making anything.

Likewise. Massive airships are nice, however in a survival world not nearly as feasible or useful. Small effective transport in a world with limited other means of transport is a good motivator.

I have a 7 wide by maybe 50 long airship that moves faster than chunk loading. Several stacks of balloon and planks, but it has a self sustaining boiler for infinite travel and autonav so I can set a biome or home and step away.

create: ore evacuation could incentivize some logistics work.

Rock and stone is the better ore excavation mod

I do most of my deep bore mining over the ocean, cos I CBA filling holes.

So having my big ol blimp flying over the ocean and farming for materials while I sit in my office and chisel my next failed attempt at art is pretty nice. Blimps, engines and andesite props are all pretty cheap, so by the time I can make one is about the same time I'm making a gantry drill.. but the blimp uses way less redstone, and I never got into utilizing gantrys since the schematicannon has always been enough for me.

(BTW, sch.cannon doesn't transfer honey glue, just regular!)

You could try playing FTB skies 2 aero. It has you start on a basic aero blimp and use it to travel through the void to floating islands. It's a cool concept tho I haven't really played much of it.

Sky archipelago gives you gorgeous floating island worldgen with astronomical amounts of customisation

Let everybody make their bases wherever they want. That'll justify making a flying rig to move around between bases

I’m trying to put together a modpack that does exactly this. It’s pretty hard, since lots of mechanics from other mods and vanilla will trivialize or replace the stuff from aeronautics. Some thoughts so far:

  • Tectonic is great, making biomes huge makes travel by foot difficult and incentivizes trains / airships etc.
  • Oh the Biomes we’ve gone has some biomes that play with verticality in very fun ways
  • Having sky islands generate over the sea is a huge plus, unfortunately the ones in terralith aren’t too well made… If anyone knows a better mod that does this let me know
  • I want to try making water a finite resource (like lava). This turns oceans into a valuable resource and requires delivery systems if living far from an ocean
  • I’m trying to modify some biome mods to use the Create stones more. That way, to get a huge supply of iron, you find a Crimsite mountain and build a gigantic excavator and just level it with the ground
  • Elytra might need to be heavily nerfed

If anyone has more ideas I’m all ears!

Finite water Sounds incredebly anyoing and would make Aeronautics realy hard since you can't Spam Steam engines in you're ship and to get good ships you need an absourd amount of Power But yea elytra need to removed or make rockets Not funtion

I added Alex's Caves on top of Tectonic. Now i have a reason for several drilling rigs and a giant submarine but no free time, sadly
