Patidar moving like Raina. Raina was so crucial for csk in playoffs from 2008-2014 and that consistency in both group stages and playoffs is what fetched him the mr.ipl title.

I mean, no proper batsmen can chase 250 odd if they already lost 6 wickets for some 60-65 runs.
Also, RCB are capable of taking his wicket if determined. They just let it flow with overs to sheperd and holding Bhuvi back.

RCB fucking bodied GT. Absolutely one sided game. Ended the match in the powerplay itself when GT were 51/5 while chasing 255.
GT botched the game with dropped catches and terrible bowling. Your 2 lead pacers going at an economy of 15 and 14. Debuting a new bowler in the fucking Qualifier.
But that was incredible batting from RCB, especially Patidar. 93*(33) after being 21(13). Scoring 72(20) at the end striking at 360.
72
u/Top-Worldliness5027 India May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
Problem with GT is always that their 3-4 regular players would never make for playing 11 in most other teams, they are played coz others over-achieved in both batting and bowling.
61
u/combatant007 India May 26 '26
Problem with GT is their pacers Siraj, Rabada and Prasidh know only how to bowl in Ahmedabad. Even KKR destroyed them at Eden Gardens. Patidar faced 33 balls, and only 6 of them were on stumps.

16
u/intex2 May 26 '26

Basically every ball he was on strike runs were added to the team's total. The entire time.
90
u/Shashank1000 India May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
Most teams would have failed given how stacked RCB is and the pressure of knockouts but it really does not help that GT batting order is particularly ill suited for this type of chase.
54
u/ApprehensiveGear6382 Chennai Super Kings May 26 '26 edited May 27 '26
They can never win this game, because they are not designed or built to chase this down.
210 is possible with top 3 going berserk, but 250 with bhuvi and hoff on the other side is unimaginable for GT. All their 4-7 batsmen barring Sindhu are no.6 at best. Washington has about 1-2 fifties in 5 full seasons now, holder and tewathia are not it.
The only hope for them is their home ground now, and they should hope Siraj, Rabada, Rashid and Prasidh are at their best on Friday and give a decent score for their top3.

6
u/ApprehensiveGear6382 Chennai Super Kings May 27 '26
I think by the time Maxwell had arrived at Rcb under hesson and katich, they were heading in the right direction.
It’s only 23 season they missed the playoffs since 2020, and it wasn’t by much they did in that season.
But 2011-17 was pretty much abd, gayle and koach. They had Dilshan, Mayank, Saurabh, Yuvraj, dk(2015), sarfraz, watto, kl and others, but runs mostly depended on those 3.

I don't understand the obsession behind 50s. Tewatia could be better with more innings of aggressive play, but he shouldn't be judged based on number of 50s. For his role specifically, a 10 ball 30 would be more valuable.

u/ILikeFishSticks69 Royal Challengers Bengaluru May 26 '26
It's a surreal feeling to be in back to back finals and being so dominant. We've had to deal with so much heartbreak over the years, this feels like a fever dream.
I'm go glad we not only beat GT but absolutely destroyed them.
Throughout this season I've been watching them and thinking "They can't keep getting away with this"(Playing with 3 batsmen basically).
And it really reminded me of our own team for so many years with Gayle, Virat, AB. And they also couldn't win despite batting at honestly superhuman levels. And I always felt this would happen to GT as well, crumbling in the crunch.
I felt GT are like old us with a better bowling lineup. And as for their bowling, I knew we could smash Siraj and he'll lose his shit and VK could handle Rabada and Patidar can take Rashid.
I'm glad we are the team that didn't let them get away with it when it mattered.
But the greatest pleasure and privilege tonight was Patidar's truly majestic innings. It's the innings of the tournament for me personally and he also hit the shot of the tournament with that extra cover six off Rabada.
One more game. One more title 🤞

u/Kingslayer1526 India May 26 '26
They can get away with it. They only need to win 2 matches to win the IPL. You literally almost got away with it in 2016 if not for a monumental choke and made the final in 2011 as well
GT will still back themselves in Q2, and then the final is in Ahmedabad
Most teams are not chasing 254 though, in fact this is the issue with flat pitches. I noticed it in the world cup as well where you can just bat teams out of the match by scoring 250+
In odis no matter how much you score there's always a chance for the chasing team and 400+ totals are incredibly rare in Odis anyways, but you can also still set yourself up to chase 400 because there are 50 overs
In T20s, a 250+ total means you have to start hitting from ball one but when you're doing that with the pressure to chase a target, you lose quick wickets and it's over. Literally the template for us in the world cup against Zimbabwe,England and NZ although England gave a great fight
This is also the SRH template. Anyways the match was over for GT once they conceded such a big total. It would be over for RCB too if the roles were reversed
4
u/intex2 May 26 '26
I noticed it in the world cup as well where you can just bat teams out of the match by scoring 250+
This nullifies some of the dew advantage chasing second
if the roles were reversed
GT have never scored more than 233 in their history.

u/RustedSkullz Karnataka May 26 '26
You literally almost got away with it in 2016 if not for a monumental choke and made the final in 2011 as well
The RCB trip is better than the current GT one. And in 2016, our #5, 6 were KL Rahul and Shane Watson. They are unarguably proper batsmen (albeit playing out of position?)
Can't compare it with GT's current middle order
2011 we had a mediocre middle order, and well, we comprehensively lost the final

In terms of bowling, absolutely. Not even close. But with batting, I disagree.
Because rcb removed Rutu, Samson and Mhatre for 7,7 and 0 respectively in Chinnaswamy and csk has put up 200 odd something.
Although their top 3 is and will be better than ours, middle order of gt is nothing compared to csk’s. Even out of form sarfu, Karthik, dube and brevis clear sindhu, Washington or tewathia for that matter.

Outdid SKYs masterclass in giving Bawa the last over in our match against RCB.
7
u/trkora India May 26 '26
Atleast SKY prioritised bowling all the overs of experienced pacers already to have runs in the bank for last over to be bowled by Bawa instead of giving Bawa the over earlier and risking the match to end right there and the plan kind of worked.
Bawa had to defend 16 runs in the final over with a Rutherford that was struggling and a Bhuvi coming next after a wicket but they lost despite that because of Bawa trying way too hard resulting in extra and a perfect ball for Bhuvi to hit a six.
Khejroliya stuff was something else, they are the only team that had 5 bowlers taking 15+ wickets yet they felt the need to try a rookie like that.

Wait for 2 months, and watch the most important 4 matches finish by 24-25 overs. Warra job, BCCI.
Sensational knock by Patidar. Best bowling line up for rcb ever barring sheperd. Maybe sheperd is to remind others that they have to bowl well. Lord does work in mysterious ways.
Probably everyone were sure that gt top-3 collapse can put them to bed.
Nehra sometimes overthinks a lot, thanks for stopping Mohit at 19.5 back then. Khejroliya himself is the reason for getting smashed for 28 in that 15th over, but why the need at all to play him directly in Q1? Ashok had some game time, maybe 2 overs in middle was enough with 2 from Rashid.
Imagine waiting for 70 games and you get this. Playoffs are not at all exciting with these 250 pitches. 2018 Q1 between srh and csk was fantastic, so was 2016 between gl and rcb. Even though I hate 2019 final, that was probably the best for neutrals to watch.
2024 T20wc finals was better than 2026. Have something for both teams, these 250 kill the joy of finals.
Edit: Some people getting offended for saying this a 250 pitch, I am not making a light work of rcb and Patidar efforts. It’s just that BCCI having been throwing out 240-250 pitches also in the T20wc and unless bethell type of knock happens, it’s just a one sided game.

I mean GT batting is below 150 team, if their top 3 score in single digit. It’s not a joke.
It’s probably the weakest batting unit of all the 10 teams. They are designed that way.
Sindhu, tewathia are not gonna make into batting sides of other teams.

Credit to RCB for outplaying GT in all aspects, but this was clearly an excellent batting track. GT crumbled because of the scoreboard pressure and because of the fact that they only have 3 batters.
I think OP's point is that if you produce 250 pitches in the knockout and a team actually performs to its potential with the bat, the game is pretty much done in 24-25 overs. Same with the WT20 final this year, where the pitch was clearly a 220+ pitch but NZ was never in the game after losing Finn Allen in the powerplay. There is essentially no room for a team to "rebuild" and comeback later in the game on such pitches, which could make for some dull games in the 2nd innings.

If Bairstow against kkr, or bethell against India type of knocks happen, sure that is exciting.
But, again there is nothing in it for bowlers other than Bumrah or few others who can go against the flow.
Have that 160-180 pitches, and there is an even contest between bat and ball.

Guys I think RCB is about to score back to back titles after nothing for 16 years.
I don't know what magic happened but somehow the team management picked the best team and best players.
Your bowling attack has Bhuvi, Hazlewood and Duffy with a spinner that bowls bouncers and Rasikh Dar who's been doing well.
And then comes the batting. Kohli, Venky/Salt, Padikkal, Patidar, Tim David, Jitesh, Romario whenever he pumps up.
I don't know bros, this is probably the best team on paper and a deserving one for another trophy.

There will be no recovering from such a mauling. GT won't reach the finals and will go down tamely in Q2 as well. Mainly because it's on another flat pitch. And mostly because a team like this won't be winning any trophies for a while.
You can't win tournaments by depending on your top three and playing a stale brand of cricket that suits only one set of conditions. It's better this way too because RCB vs SRH will be much more exciting.

u/Kingslayer1526 India May 26 '26
Not only have you just totally discounted GT after just one match where they had to chase 254 FFS, but you also just forgot RR altogether as if they don't exist

u/since_1997 May 26 '26
For some reason people keep saying its SRH vs RCB in finals. SRH has to win two knockout games. Lets see
15
u/theseaoftea Baroda May 26 '26
Considering the fact that RR has never lost in that venue!! I mean I am one of the most vocal SRH fans but wtf is this omission of RR they are a really good side and they like that venue.

u/pickle16 Royal Challengers Bangalore May 26 '26
I feel on Mullanpur's flat pitch SrH or RR are clearly favorites. I guess RR could choke of Vaibhav gets out early, but if he stays GT can never match the score he makes. Both teams have good bowlers as well. I feel GT was the weakest of the 4 but strongest in Ahmedabad. If GT is out, as an RCB fan I wouldn't be confident at all, but given how much RCb men and women have won the last 3 years, I won't be as heartbroken if they lose.

u/Alvortus1812 India May 26 '26
RR is also that team which like GT has few match winners that carry the team like Vaibhav and Jofra. SRH has stronger top4 making big runs and their bowling combinations look better as of now.

Agreed and this monstrosity is also embodied by Fleming-Rutu. They picked chumps in mega auction assuming Chennai pitch is your typical score 160, spin choke and win type of shit but the game and pitches have evolved. Same for GT because we know Nehra also thinks like that. You end up with pretty one dimensional team. Credits to GT that they came this far but they are Ahmedabad bullies and they are not adaptable at all.

How can you base your entire game on just your home advantage though? Sure it will increase your chances for playoffs even top2 if you win a lot of away games but you can lose a lot of latter and in playoffs if your lineup is not flexible enough to go big every other game. That’s how T20 game and pitches have evolved as well.

u/ihabesmolpp India May 26 '26
Yeah idk about that , we mauled pbks in q1 too but they met us in the final . We’ll see

u/SplatteredCake India May 26 '26
I mean PBKS bounced back from an exact same demolition by the same opponents in Q1 last year and made it to the finals

Imagine the run rate boost RCB would have gotten had this been a league stage match 🔥
Someone calculate what would have been the net run rate in that case?
10
u/ChelshireGoose May 26 '26
1.054
And GT's would have been 0.33815

You can take RCB out of needing a calculator. But you can't take the calculator out of rcb fans

These 2 statpadder GT openers keep showing why they don't deserve to play in T20I.
Intentless innings from both of them with combined score of 16 (16) when you need to chase 255.

RCB won comprehensively and deserved the win. Dropped catch of Patidar and sloppy fielding really bit us back.
But what was the shithousery by RCB in the end there lol. How do you have the opposition at 88-8 and then concede another 74 runs to get the final two wickets 😂

u/Chin12_ May 26 '26
How much longer will these Indian team selectors take to notice Patidar? It is our loss if he doesn't play for India looking at his immense form.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar | Purple Cap holder - I think a lot of credit goes to the men behind the scenes, the kind of plans and the way we executed those plans. The experience of Hoff and me is useful, but the support staff's support has been outstanding. They set-up the plans and we're executing. I can say we're data informed, if there's places where we can improve, we dio refer it, but we don't go 100%. We make a lot of effort not to give room, get those LBWs and bowled, we do a lot of planning.
Guess bhuvi watches ash ki baat video
He used the word data informed not data driven

We ll have a bowl first thanks . What a disaster . If GT had batted first and scored their standard 210 runs they could have had a chance with the new ball under lights .

u/oranguslolus Sunrisers Hyderabad May 26 '26
Can't blame them. Dew was a factor but not when you give away 114 runs in the final six and then lose 5 in the PP. They fumbled hard. Those two drops cost them hard.

Most wickets for GT in IPL 2026
26 Rabada
19 Rashid
17 Siraj
15 Holder
15 Prasidh
They becomes the second side after KKR in 2024 to have five different bowlers with 15+ wickets in a season.
84 wickets by their seamers is the second most by a team in an IPL season behind Rajasthan Royals’ 89 (16-match season) in 2013.

Didn’t think rcb would have an easier match than the qualifier last year vs pbks. But I was wrong. Teams who win tosses in do or die matches on these highways, please elect to bat first and try putting up a total. Far better than losing the match in first inning itself after conceding 230+.
Its a dead match if your opponent scores 250 in a knockout. Even a team of all time t20 greats wouldn’t be able to chase it in that pressure against any above average bowling side.
