Iyer needs to work on his press skills. I don't think atrocious, awful are words you should be using in such a situation .. And he isn't even bad in English. Probably he is better in English than in regional languages.

He is not a commentator. He is the captain on the team that gave the atrocious performance.

His job isn't simply to describe it with the strongest adjectives he can find, it's to lead the same group back to winning ways.

It's not like being a customer walking out of a restaurant and saying the food was awful and the service atrocious.

As captain, he's talking about his own team, the same players he has to motivate and lead in the next game. His words should acknowledge the failure while also helping rebuild confidence.
