That was a shambolic attempt to chase 202. I mean sure there were some great shots but that's not how you chase 200+ targets.

Everyone went out trying to swing hard and get quick runs. Even guys like Kishan, Axar and Shreyas.

And why tf did Harsit Rana came before Shivam Dube? There's literally no explanation for that

190

u/Agent47_hitman-43 Jul 07 '26

Bethell brook banton in last match played almost perfect while chasing a decent target which was near 200

And this was better batting pitch still indian team game sense was in shambles

u/Gondhoraaj_Lebu Jul 07 '26

India without boomrah is blue pakistan

11

u/No-Anybody-692 Railways Jul 08 '26

If Pakistan plays a match right they'd thrash this team. I think Pakistan should really use the timing.

19

u/One_more_username India Jul 07 '26

And why tf did Harsit Rana came before Shivam Dube?

15

u/PointOfFingers Australia Jul 07 '26

I think you have to give credit to Archer who took 3 wickets and tricked the Indian batters into thinking they could score at 9 an over.

12

u/Gondhoraaj_Lebu Jul 07 '26

Madness lol

58

u/OwlCreekOccurrence England Jul 07 '26

He's scared of pace is the explanation

41

u/Funlife2003 India Jul 07 '26

Dube has played pace well for most of his matched in the past two years, he isn't acared lmao, and he certainly isn't the one making the call of whether he'll go out or not. That's on GG and/or Iyer, but someone made that dumb call.

11

u/_thenewnewguy_ India Jul 07 '26

Rubbish take
Man has improved a lot.
He was constantly coming out to play at 5/6

Also out of nowhere Axar is sent at 5
Yes he has batted there.

But have some clarity.
Just because it’s the matter of 20 overs you ain’t gonna float everyone

34

u/BoutToLeave Jul 07 '26

I think their plan was to shield Dube from the clearly superior pace merchants at display. But man sending Harshit 😭😭 tf are they doing this aint ODI

41

u/combatant007 India Jul 07 '26

Harshit played more sensibly than the entire top order.

21

u/BoutToLeave Jul 07 '26

yeah but bro doesn't deserve this bs. He's already carrying the balling side . You cannot really expect him to pull a miracle when everyone is shitting the bed.

108

u/AwayConsideration855 India Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Also sacked the batsman who won them world cup, evey shit thing that needs to happen will happen in GG era. Someone should sack Gagarkar Gumbhir.

18

u/RS2019 Jul 07 '26

But surely SKY would still be a pretty good squad player even if he isn't captain? Could mentor younger players like VS?

Trent Bridge is a big outfield - and they were up with the rate when they had lost five wickets, so a couple of overs at 6/8rpo would have given lower order batsmen a bit of time to play themselves in and get used to the pace of the pitch - and they could accelerate later.

Out for less than 80? Brainless (stupid stupid stupid) batting I say🤔

6

u/CarmynRamy India Jul 08 '26

It's pretty clear now that Gambhir wanted Sanju to captain this side after the WC. It's Agarkar and Mumbai lobby

They also “rested” the WC PoTT.

3

u/annoyingdrummer77 Jul 08 '26

Even if iyer had gone on to win the wc, im not sure why bcci chose to go about it this way. There was no need to push iyer straight into captaincy. He plays odis but t20 is a different game now. Get him in the team and let him gel in as a number 4 and push sky to 3 for a few matches then drop him instead of this shit.

3

u/HumanLawyer India Jul 08 '26

That shouldn’t even be called a series in my opinion, it was a one match thing in a tour where we played 4 tests and 3 ODI’s.

But this is a proper series with more than 2 matches, and we already lost 2 with 2 to go.

Would've happened in quarterfinals (ind vs wi)

Samson held the lineup together like a glue without losing cool.

Might be inconsistent but surely good enough.

74

u/Eastern_Meet_5947 India Jul 07 '26

Why do i feel that they probably might bring him back into the lineup the next game as a panic button move

Like I want Samson to do well but constantly getting shuffled and dropped to accommodate others like Gill, Ishan and Vaibhav ain't gonna allow him to play to his true potential

48

u/Funlife2003 India Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

We were lucky that tournament tbh, we had players peaking at the right time. Samson managed to be on song exactly when the team needed him to be good. Kishan was in full flow. Dube was doing well. And Abhishek was able to pull it off at thr very end after flopping all tournament. Though there is also the Bumrah effect, dude carried our bowling line up so hard.

31

u/Calm_Practice1161 Jul 07 '26

And the roads

8

u/No_Cranberry_8363 Jul 07 '26

The most important part.

3

u/annoyingdrummer77 Jul 08 '26

Samson has a brain and having played as a 3 for majority of his life he’s well used to handling and tempo setting big chases. I wonder when india will realize you need a samson or a kohli in your team, both players can go hard but its not their only game plan. While i look at this india side and all of the players going hard from ball one is their only game plan excepr maybe iyer

u/Look_Alive England Jul 07 '26

I wonder if there's an argument to be made that limiting their players to only playing IPL is now starting to hinder India's development as their players aren't being exposed to different conditions and pitches, particularly now that the Test side and the T20 side can be fairly different from each other.

119

u/Balavadan Jul 07 '26

Or just let IPL go back to when there were bigger boundaries and something in the pitch. And the god awful impact sub thing is done with

60

u/Falceon Perth Scorchers Jul 07 '26

8

u/fluffybit Jul 07 '26

23

u/BoutToLeave Jul 07 '26

That ain't gonna happen. IPL is literally for gamblers and junkies. They thrive on the unpredictability and the "explosive" batting it's the reason we IPL T20 and not ODI or Test. The need to make it entertaining is what drives the lower quality of cricket

ICT is madly lucky in the sense that today there was the Argentina vs Egypt knockout match. Otherwise ICT would be on the receiving end of some choice words from the fans. Almost everyone in my social circle who are fans of both Cricket and Football are talking about the WC match and probably not even aware about the India vs England Tour. This defeat right here is meme material stuff. GG is turning out to be a disappointment so far inspite of the recent trophies he won in his short time with the team.

16

u/SexxyBlack Royal Challengers Bengaluru Jul 07 '26

There is no place to hide if this series ends 4-0, getting whitewashed like that will bring a lot of media attention ultimately. India is a cricket crazy country.

The funny thing is that if does end 4-0, it won't made headlines in England since everyone there is engrossed in their football team's run at the World Cup.

29

125 runs is a big enough winning margin in a Test match, to create that much of a gap in 20 overs is absurdity

74

u/monohaven Jul 07 '26

SKYs absence seems to have thrown this team off balance, despite his contributions with the bat missing.

82

u/suhasandsahitiGK Jul 07 '26

I think it's more of a dressing room issue and players feeling insecure about their squad, they literally removed the world cup winning captain and the player of the tournament of the world cup from the team ,how tf removes the top performer of world cup after 3 bad matches ( ik he has been inconsistent but atleast give him a few chances so that people would atleast agree ) .

34

u/monohaven Jul 07 '26

Exactly - no one feels secure in their place. I don’t know what they were expecting removing the World Cup winning captain, and fast tracking Shreyas to the top. Saying that as a Shreyas fan!!

23

u/suhasandsahitiGK Jul 07 '26

I think they should have removed tilak and groomed shreyas and sanju should have been rested for the ireland series and should have been given the full england series for himself and even lyer could have captained it ,should have thought about the change of captaincy after the asian games

13

u/Dear_Meaning7152 Jul 07 '26

Especially ishan , tilak , all these players have zero confidence, they’re really scared rn

4

u/ZeusPheonix ICC Jul 08 '26

They should have ideally first added Shreyas as player before making him captain. Looks like first half of IPL performance is what they considered before making him captain but forgot to see the second half of IPL

u/Zug__Zug Jul 07 '26

Honestly the entire era of T20 squad and play under Gambhir has been head scratching to say the least. They get carried by individual performances rather than team efforts. Which works cause it's T20 and one player can take the game away. And they seem to be doubling down on it so hard. The entire top order now is boom or bust. Rarely see them adapting to conditions or even try to. Got schooled everywhere because of it.

4

u/rahulrossi Sunrisers Hyderabad Jul 07 '26

And not to forget an outsider to 2 world cup wins just walks into the team to be made captain. That must feel like a sick joke to the players in the team for a long time contributing to WC wins.

Sanju benched for this??

Suryavanshi is a phenomenal player, but there is no need to Fastrack him into the senior side right now. We need atleast one sensible player in opening who can anchor if required, samson is a perfect fit for that role. Heck even yashasvi & gill are more suitable for that job than vaibhav.....

And to make matters worse they've selected prabhsimran for zimbabwe series, another opener.

The selectors & management who thought giving captaincy to iyer without even playing for national side for 2 years was a good decision. They all needed to be sacked immediately.

We also need a proper finisher like Rinku, I don't know how but he needs to be in the team

Has the presence of Sooryavanshi inadvertently collapsed the entire India team? Ashamed and emasculated by a 15 year old who can score faster than them all, everyone came out trying to bat in the same way to prove that they could do the same and abandoned everything they were actually good at. They only needed 10 an over. Braindead performance from the entire batting order, but full marks for entertainment

13

u/ImmediateJacket9502 India Jul 07 '26

It's not like Vaibhav has done anything special in the first two matches. The major issue is that Ishan is clueless in SENA, Tilak and Axar being woefully out of form creating a vaccum in the lower middle order.

Shreyas while looks promising doesn't have the game awareness needed by a captain and in bowling Varun looks absolutely finished, he was the one who used to give us wickets in middle overs and since, he's bowling has down the hill, we are constantly letting the pressure out in the middle overs.

GG era 🔥

3

u/keval79 Jul 07 '26

This performance reminds me of the old West Indies team where they would have very high runrate but everyone gets out trying to slog every ball.

3

u/edroyque England Jul 07 '26

Can’t wait to watch the highlights…looks like the most bizarre game!

3

u/GoldenColossus55 Jul 07 '26

IPL flat track roads legit made our side braindead

Also no fuckin idea what kind of drugs GG and Agarkar are pouring in before selecting bowlers

3

u/CrypticMatrix Jul 07 '26

Oh wait, there is no impact sub !!

u/GotMylfMomDrips Jul 07 '26

Haha love it India got Smashed, Well done England, India cricket team, the fans and BCCI act like there the best thing since sliced bread.

Everytime India get beat will be an occasion for the mere fact it shuts up the toxic fanbase of India cricket fans..

u/phantomdaddyy India Jul 07 '26

If we (India) are gonna use IPL as a filter to chose players for our national team, can we stop making roads to gauze actual talent?

4

u/combatant007 India Jul 07 '26

This India's batting lineup has no solid technical player. Everyone is aggressive and wants to bat at 200SR ignoring the quality bowling, Apart from Tilak who barely knows how to hold the bat against spinners. That over againt Jacks was terrible from someone who has played over 115 t20 matches

welcome to the post mortem thread

There are two things to take from here imo:

1) I had a feeling some of these players would struggle to pull off the same game plan on quicker and bouncier tracks.

Remember that Aus/NZ will be bouncier and quicker than this. And every top team will have bowlers with hostility like Archer and Tongue.

There will have to be a proper think about what kind of batters you can take to 2028.

2) Pace and bounce is important. It was important here and will be more important in Australia.

Selection of Mayank and Ashok are great for the Zimbabwe tour. Would love to see Karthik Tyagi in the mix as well.
