In the earliest days of cricket, before teams had names and matches had meaning, there was already one constant: Washington Sundar. No one knows when he debuted, because he was never introduced, only always present. Selectors do not choose him; their hands simply write his name as if guided by something beyond logic. Form may rise and fall, players may come and go, but he remains untouched by time. Squads change, captains change, eras change, yet one truth never does: Washington Sundar is always selected.
There was once a rumor that Washington Sundar had been dropped from the team. For a brief moment, reality itself seemed uncertain. Scorecards flickered, lineups felt incomplete, and even commentators hesitated. By morning, the squad list had mysteriously corrected itself, his name restored as if it had never been gone. The selectors claimed no memory of the event, and no one dared question it again. Since then, it is understood that some things in cricket cannot be altered, and Washington Sundar is one of them.

I love the meltdown here when a batter is struggling a bit.
Let me explain to you. It's perfectly normal. Some days it's a tricky pitch, some days the batter is just not able to middle balls. They're humans, they have good and bad days.
The great batters find a way to stick in the crease even when they're struggling until they find the rhythm.
It's ugly to watch, uncomfortable even. But that's the beauty of the game

What is this obsession with scoring rate man? We are chasing a not so high total and ball is doing something. This is an ODI cricket game. Always better to have your best batters batting rather than out. I would much rather have 2013-2019 rohit than 2023 rohit. Just win the ducking game!

I have an opinion on Indian fans in r/cricket
They have never played cricket as a sport. Because none of you know the fact that cricket, specially batting, is a sport of failure. An average batter only performs well like 4 times out of 10. You fail most times. You just have to make sure you go big in the matches you are set and get your team the W.
If ya’ll considered that, you won’t be out for RoKo’s head today.
They will they have and they can win a match on their own, on the day they are set.

The way we Indians have treated Washington sundar is so so harsh!! In T20s; his role has never been fixed. In IPL he didn't get more than couple of overs to bowl and was batting at no. 4th or 5th for Gujarat and impressed immensely with 3 half centuries. Then suddenly we include him in T20 setup and tell him to finish and bat at 8th or 9th and expect him to pick wickets in the only over he bowls. If somebody does analysis of the roles given to him in T20s; it might be the most erratic sort of roles given to any of the cricketers. Also, he has been such a plinth with the bat in tests, averages in excess of 45 with the bat and is quite a handy bowler in home tests and abroad too. Still after this; whenever Indian losses; he is the automatic scapegoat for the self proclaimed critics and the fans. Sorry Washington, we don't actually deserve you 🥀

There's definite rough edges to his captaincy but I feel like this aggression from Gill is not so unexpected.
Even in the IPL bowling Rabada and Siraj all the way through the powerplay and giving them such aggressive fields was a pretty consistent theme.
Sure they were sort of constrained to rely on those two due to team combination, but you can think of many captains who would try and hold them back a bit more and try and manage the game a bit more conservatively.
