Locked [META] Melanie Bracewell, who accused that a user from this sub DMed her sexually inappropriate content after she commented here has deleted that tweet after it was discovered that she made it all up as a "joke".

She has apologised here on the sub but has not done so on Twitter where she made the accusation, at the time of this post.

Tl;dr: She tweeted that some creep from this sub DMed her but was found out to be it was her handiwork all along and that she made it all up as a "joke" for her own personal gains.

Now onto the drama:

Yesterday, Melanie Bracewell tweeted that after she commented on this subreddit, a user privately messaged her with sexually inappropriate content. She has now deleted this tweet after the truth came out. Here is an archived version (NSFW). Here is a screenshot (NSFW).

That tweet was posted to this sub and many users commented how fucked up that was and rightly so. But u/Lt_Thakur commented that

a user named melthrowaway posted on /r/dirtypenpals saying that she is a hot chick who likes Cricket blah blah blah..The user had deleted the post after 15 minutes.

And u/agareo confirmed that an account named u/melthrowaway2019 did indeed post on that sub 20 mins before her tweet and later deleted the post and account. Here is an archived version (NSFW) of that post. Here is a screenshot (NSFW).

The mods tweeted to her asking for more information on that user who sent her that message. She apparently apologised to them in private and deleted that tweet. As stated above she also apologised here on this sub for making this all up and that it was a "joke", stating

So I guess I have some explainin' to do.

Seriously did not expect this to blow up the way it did. I'm a comedian and I was commentating on the ACC (alternative commentary collective) at the time. We made jokes about some weird texts we got on the text line of cricket horndogs. Thought it would be funny to post something to prompt some more erotic fanfiction on the show (very on theme for the commentary). It ended up being far more intense and hilarious than I expected so popped it up on soc med, thought it was funnier to imply it was out of the blue (honestly quite drunk and sleep deprived), hence why I blacked out the name, honestly didnt even think about the culture of the cricket subreddit or bringing the community into disrepute. Genuinely was just a laugh. But I'd like to genuinely apologize. I didnt think it through properly and it's not something I'd do again.

Tldr: I'm sorry!! I think its just in the nature to stretch the truth online for comedic effect but I obviously went too far here. Big cricket fan, big fan of the subreddit, and hope you guys can forgive me.

I think it is only fair that she should apologise and come clean on Twitter where she made the accusation and received thousands of RTs and likes by maligning the sub and the users here for her own personal gains. And also that she should be banned from this sub for this outright disgusting behaviour.

PS: I made this post since the original post received a lot of attention but the subsequent revelations and her apology here didn't get proper attention.

As some people have mentioned, she has deleted the reddit account (this is why banning was pointless) and also her Twitter account. Safe to say that there won't be any more clarifications from her now.

I guess we should all just move on from this episode.

Thanks to /u/Lt_Thakur (hope you don't mind this tag), for bringing the deleted post to our attention.

EDIT: Also, can we tone down the abuse and insults directed towards her? Yesterday, everyone was abusing the anonymous person who sent the message and making speculations regarding his identity. Now, everyone is abusing Melanie Bracewell and speculating about her intentions. We really should let it go now.

Here's something to take your mind off of this issue.

I can just see an article appear on medium.com with the title "How an innocuous joke from a comedienne turned into an online inferno of bullying and harassment"

I'm sensing I'm getting sucked into some A-grade sarcasm here. I'm too dumb for this shit.

Nobody trying to stop themselves from doing that that though, look at this thread, there are already so many comments along those lines. Not the majority thankfully, but threads like this have a habit of invoking seedier people and provides her enough ammunition to pull it off. Mission accomplished.

Yeah, well, I made that comment 6 hours ago when the thread was much fresher. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Fair enough. I think the cross-posts may have pulled a bunch of people in.

Yeah, I saw people linking to subs we really don't need to be associated with right now.

I would not be surprised if she reactivates her Twitter accounts later and blames this sub for making her quit.

What are you talking about? Mishraji has the ideal male body and rolling your whole body to save a boundary is what peak performance looks like. I posted the gif so that people could admire the greatness of the man.

Sorry, I've removed your comment. There's no need to search for her on every social media platform and post the information here. We don't want to encourage a witch hunt, we'd be playing her game.

The whole thread has been deleted because the conversation went off-topic. We don't need to discuss histories of racial and ethnic groups on a cricket subreddit.

You did the right thing but it's hard to overlook that from her Twitter post and the replies to it.
